While I do perceive the same Bechdel bullshit I think it's too easy to overlook the crucial importance of Ana Stelline's thematic purpose of birthing the Replicant species, in how she inoculated them with memories, and memories = life. I don't know if going back to them women-as-mother motif is too cliche or superficial but I think there is something to be said for the fact that this is an aspect of character few male characters will ever get to enjoy. Because Feminists inherently must attune themselves to what-is-wrong, I don't know if that unique feature is something they can appreciate. Thematically speaking when it comes to creator motifs, the mother symbol is every bit as powerful as the god symbol, if not moreso.

Feminism isnt really as monolithic as people often make out of course but I do think theres definitely an aspect of it that seems more interested in basically shifting women towards masculine values, hence the view of motherhood or a mother goddess as being of lesser worth. You could I think say as well theres an aspect of it that however much it might claim to be "against the patriarchy" actually draws much of its values from Christianity such as sexual guilt, hence women being sexualised must automatically be being belittled.

Again I think of the film had a problem is was mostly that it seemed a bit confused in its focus so we didn't really see its supporting characters given as much focus as they might have been, Joi, Luv, Joshi, Ana, etc all I think had potential to be more interesting than they ultimately ended up.

Finally got around to watching it the other night. Sound design was un-fucking-real.

Watched this for the fifth time this afternoon.

I like it more every time I see it.

Yup, so I've heard.

And the fact it royally flopped is evidence audiences are retarded, or the marketing was horrible, or both.

It had SJW backlash due to its portrayal of women

I also don't think its a movie for the casual audience. Its almost 3 hours with heavy themes and you really need to pay attention

Its not a turn your brain off type sci fi film like the new Star Wars

I've seen it three times now.

One of my faves. Exact same vibes I got from the original after multiple viewings.

"Meh"..."Mehhhhmmm-Okay"......"Mehhhhmmm-Okay, I LOVE IT!!!"

The original Blade Runner wishes it was this movie

Commodus, you go too far...

I love all Villeneuve movies but haven't watched the old movie. Is it really necessary?

You don't need to watch the first one. It's a benchmark but 2049 captures the vibe of the first without feeling frozen in the 1980s. Ruthless lays it on a bit thick when he says the second one is what the first one wanted to be, but he's right in that it's much more accessible to today's crowd than the first one.

Thanks. I have to check this out!

Yeah, but from what I read, that's a mute point because it didn't effect the movie critics that are usually sensitive toward those subjects.

I've paused the movie and around 90 minutes in, and there's several scenes they seem to purposely edit to be longer than they had to. Its like they wanted it to be 2.5 hours long.

Seriously, I could edit this down to 2 hours flat, with Windows Movie Maker and very little story would have been lost.

Aug... don't bring up The Last Jedi. That's a whole different can of worms.

But yeah, in the 3/5ths of the movie I've watched I've noticed several problems that could have been easily fixed.

And its worth mentioning I've watched the original Blade Runner and I wasn't overly impressed.

WTF? I thought feminists would love this. It has Luv the female replicant kicking everyone's ass.

The main character's boss is a woman, who is portrayed in a positive light. The leader of the replicant revolutionaries is a woman. The most pure/good character is Deckard's daughter.

The men are portrayed as villainous, cynical, incompetent, weird or dull.

K: Stoic and dull
Deckard: Jaded, angry, cynical, hermit.
Wallace: Evil billionaire scientist
The male police officers: assholes

Still love this movie. Definitely my favorite overall for 2017

None of that good stuff matters.

All that matters to them is that women were presented sexually in the film.

Apparently any women who are naked and/or having sex is sexism.

People are loathe to appreciate the platform that feminists are unable of liking or acknowledging progress. It's part of the political design that the conversation of "fair and reasonable representation" must always continue. To entertain notions otherwise is to wonder whether a stopsign can ever say go.

It can't.

The problem anti-feminists encounter is thinking feminists can be surmounted through logic and/or evidence. I would encourage people not to get too butthurt about that. It's self-defeating to "combat" or even ridicule feminism because, let's say it again: its sole purpose is self-perpetuation.

That you idiots (not you, LO, but kinda you if you want to include yourself) carry on the (feminist) conversation without feminists being present is, let's say this again too: self-defeating. (Plus, occasionally humiliating.)

But hey, best of luck, y'all.

(Parentheticals.)

*shrug*

I've said what you're saying a hundred times or more on these forums, but if you want to base your opinion of my position on this one post made in jest at the end of the hard day, it won't change my opinion of you.
