Saw it earlier today. His hologram gf was hot as fuck. atmosphere and music was a great throw back to the original, but I found the actual story uninteresting which sucks because the original is in my top 5

I thought 2049 was much more detailed in regards to the story. The original felt very straightforward, not that it was a bad thing.

It did have more details, it just didn't grab me. Honestly I was more interested in any clues that Deckard is a replicant or human than the main plot

I think I wanted K to be an emotionally stone-cold bad-ass. Like Deckard mixed with Terminator. Instead he what some emo :eek::eek: guy character.

Theres a difference between "detailed" and "interesting" of course, the original is I think much more specifically focused on its lead characters were as the sequel spends a lot more time building up a wider sci fi world.

Again I think it does also come rather down to the originals "geek" following really mischaracterising the kind of film it is, I think its much less hard sci fi than its often talked up as. Its world is I think often deliberately fantastical to further its story more along the lines of something like A Clockwork Orange.

The sequel to me kind of feels like the film a lot of people wanted the original to be, more a hard sci fi action thriller.

Awesome movie, not surprised it underwhelmed at box office.

hope they make more, human replicant war would be cool, and lets see some off world.

Well, that was fan fuckin tastic.

Glad I caught it in IMAX at the tail end of its run, just before it left.

Glorious visuals, loved the slow pace, elegant structure, everything so measured.

Beautiful film.

Not sure why i always thought the original blade runner was related to rollerball.

So after watching the trailer for this new one i realised it wasn't. We rented blade runner on amazon yesterday and watched 2049 later that evening.

I was basically gonna say was petey said. Great pace, fantastic visuals. I loved everything about this movie. And hot damn at Ana De Armas!!

Gets the rare speeit 10. No issues with that film. An absolute masterpiece for me.

Your cortex is flowing nicely Mr Petey. I wonder how it throbbed and oscillated as you were taken in by the threaded narrative of the story? If only i was there to make your experience truly a blessing....You will be glroious when the time comes...

On July 14th, Day 4 of principal photography, Ryan Gosling delivered and alternate Baseline script that lasted eight minutes.

Ryan Gosling said:
The Baseline was always a scene to me that held the key to understanding K. I wasn't sure what that key was during the preparation period of the film. In the script, the character was meant to read a small passage from Nabokov's Pale Fire, but there wasn't any insight as to why.

In order to better understand the meaning of the passage and to give it a personal meaning, I enlisted the help of a wonderful vocal coach named Natsuko Ohama. She suggested a technique called 'Dropping In.' In this technique, you explore the meaning of each word of the text by exhausting every conceivable context in which the would could be used.

The process is very long and repetitive, but it has a trance-inducing effect that can be very powerful and unsettling. I felt that if that technique were extrapolated into K's experience, it could be used to penetrate his psyche. I believed we could learn through a process of psychological erosion what his true emotional state was.

I was very grateful to Denis for incorporating it into the film, because it unlocked my understanding of K, but also provided insight into the state of mind of those who would force this burden upon him."

I felt disappointed. I felt like it set up a sequel.

The original left room for one but it can stand alone.

This just seemed like it planned on being one of many in a series.

So, after my third visit, I picked up on a lot of subtle things, and nuances in the movie that were easily missed.

The movie in many ways reminds me the story of Pinocchio (srs).

A story about wanting to be a real, to have a soul, and in many ways (not all of which are abstract), he does just that.

The theme of being real is portrayed throughout the entire movie. I would go as far to say, it encapsulates the essence of the entire movie by making the audience question, what makes you or I real?

Joe/K goes out on his shield to be human in having a cause which is worth dying for. No doubt, if another movie is made, he can easily be casted in the movie again. He went through a series of battle wounds throughout the movie.

Theme of the quote from the original Blade Runner, "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.”

The amount of times we see tear drops throughout the movie is nearly obnoxious.

The scene where Joe/K goes to see if his memory is real, she looks into a microscope before she grows up set. She tears up before saying its a real memory and Joe/K goes nuts.

I missed this entirely the first time through. The way of the overreaction is done brilliantly in such a way of misdirection, the audience is drawn away but, unconsciously, the theme is in keeping with life, death, memories, and time.

Love murders Joe/K's boss but, in doing so, you catch her tearing up ever so briefly.

Something else I missed the first time though not key to the plot,

Joe/K saves Deckard from the explosion that goes off.

Wallace has his God complex rants but, he knows the limits of his genius. As great as he is, he is no Tyrell.

Again, in keeping with the theme of being a real, the Joe/K is asked a question by Deckard.

What am I to you. He doesn't answer only to say, go see your daughter.

The movie fails to answer questions and makes the audience question more. Like, wheher or not Deckard is real.

There was so many awesome visuals and special effects but, the story line was fantastic as was the directing. I am sure more viewings will come to pick up on more nuances and fine details.

Somethings I picked up on was the relationship between Joe and Love.

There is commentary about Rachel making a pass at Deckard and that there emphasis on baiting him with desire. Love then makes a pass at Joe/K.

In a fight scene, she kisses him after having stabbed him. Still, she is a slave and follows a master whereas, Joe/K is sentient bypassing his programming. Acting out of free will. Even withholding info from his superiors before facing the dragon of chaos risking his life in attempt to be real by staking everything on his cause.

Similarly, the hologram gf agrees to the same thing, to come follow Joe/K on his mission, at the risk of being retired. She is later retired but, not before declaring her love to Joe/K. While this is in keeping with her programming, the element of reality shines again given what was risked by coming on the mission. Similarly, Joe/K makes a similar pledge with his cause in helping Deckard meet his daughter.

The movie is bloody brilliant. I think the R rating did not help as did the clarity required from the previous movie. It was absolutely fantastic. I thought it was a solid 8.5 movie but, I am saying 9 + at this point.

It questions the value of our memories, the discussion of what is real, and the value of having a cause to pursue even at the risk of your life, something worth dying for makes one 'human.' Absolutely incredible!

Just went last night. One of the best films I've seen in years. 9.5/10. Phenomenal.

Box office info:

Blade Runner 2049 lost 855 theaters and earned $7.155 million (-54%) in its third weekend, which was lower than my “bending over backward to be fair” guess of $8m for the frame. The Ryan Gosling/Harrison Ford sci-fi sequel has now earned $74.005m in 17 days of domestic release. At this point, it's playing like Annabelle and will presumably end its domestic run with $85-$90m domestic. Again, that's not bad for a 2.75-hour, R-rated, adult-skewing sci-fi drama. The issue is, yet again, that pesky $155m budget.

With $194 million worldwide, it will all come down to Japan and China. Blade Runner 2049 will debut in both markets next Friday. And yeah, it is possible that both markets could overperform. But even a run slightly better than Terminator Genisys (say, $25m in Japan and $115m in China) gets the film to a global total of around $365m, or right about where Mad Max: Fury Road (which didn’t play in China) and Edge of Tomorrow ended up.

i know people that bitch about how movies these days are so bad but wouldn't go to blade runner cause it's too complicated and they go to movies just for fun, not to think about things.

and they never miss an averger release.
