If you're a critic, which usually means it's your job to critique something.. If your opinions are falling in line with political agendas or the common public more often than not then you need to take a look at yourself because you're providing nothing that the layman couldn't. You should be able to break down what they did objectively and subjectively well. If you go and read some negative reviews for Blade Runner 2049 they aren't actually critical of anything objective in the story. Usually it revolves around K being bland (which is objectively his role in the movie) or they didn't realize that the story isn't supposed to be action driven. Or in the positive reviews it's just parroting some online discussion bullshit and not realizing the subtleties of character development. It's not close to being a perfect film, some of the dialogue was unnecessary and contributed nothing to the story in the long run. But you don't see that stuff in these reviews.
Critics do ultimately care if people like their opinions, because the more followers are readers you have the more money you'll generate. Giving valid criticism in 2018 isn't worth as much as giving criticism that people want to hear.
