Oh my god please stop with this new wave of PC. Let these people believe what they want to believe as long as they keep it to themselves and out of the public eye. I can see it now. Every week there's gonna be a new article about some ideology because it's the hip thing right now. I'm gonna be a grandpa and say that the internet is giving too many people a voice. Especially some post-grad journalists who probably don't know enough about the world to say shit yet in a lot of cases.

Brazilian here, my great grandparent was part of the integralist movement as well.
First off were the integralist fascists? Well it depends on how you want to define fascism because the integralists were persecuted by vargas ( brazilian president at that time ) and vargas was a know "fascist" himself.
You can put the integralists as a fascist movement since they were against communism, against free market capitalism and had pretty nationalistic view, but them we would have to put a lot of other movements on the fascist banner ( in the end this is a really politicezed view on how to define them as a political movement)

But, one thing that people don't probably know here, there are a lot of different types of fascism and the integralist movement had a very big difference from the nazism fascism... They were not racist, in fact they were one of the first political parties in brazil to be openly against racism and had a lot of black and mixed race people on the party. This is huge cause racist ideas were pretty much mainstream in brazilian politics at that time and the integralists were one of the first movements to go against this.

Well like every political movement they have the good and the bad, i personaly don't agree with some of their most nationalist view since they were pretty extreme and their economical plan was pretty bad, but we also need to tell the truth here, when fascism is in a discussion racism comes to the mind of people and the integralist were not a racist movement

Other facts people might not know, the integralist movement was huge, it had more than 1 milion brazilians at their prime, and they did like to great each other saying anauê ( i belive thats the guarani word for hi )

Well it depends, you do know the definition of fascism right? fascists were nationalistic and were in the middle economically when it comes to communism and capitalism ( they are pretty close to social democrats in a lot of their economical views actually) if we use this definition them yes the integralists were fascists, but fascism is a very politicezed term and there is a lot of variation between different types of fascism. Vargas who was the brazilian president at that time was just slightly less nationalistic them the integralists and economically they were pretty much the same
