BJJ linked to Fascism

Gracies call themselves samurai which means those belonging to warrior class in the feudal hierarchy= highly anti democratic element of the modern society. Whereas, fascism has its origin in democracy so does communism.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu founding father, Helio Gracie linked to a Brazilian fascist movement

According to the article, Helio Gracie was a member of the Brazilian fascist movement Integralism. The research dives deep into the fascist movement going as far to include a photo of the senior Gracie that has since been tied to the organization

"Integralism is the belief that the Catholic faith should be the basis of public law and policy within a society. This movement first appeared in Brazil in 1932, where founder Plinio Salgado began feeding its ideology to his people. In hindsight, many have claimed that Salgado was to fascists (in Brazil) who Hitler was to Germans; a huge and very profound comparison"

Helio Garcie appears on Integralism newspaper with a green shirt that has a symbol of the Greek letter Sigma, one of Integralism’s main tokens.

For real, I always wonder, who are the grapplers, in north america or europe that still relate to the Helio Gracie and Gracie family dogma.

We have our coaches, great academies, we have all the video content we want in english and produced in the US.

I don't see any worshipping of the Gracie brand, most people have understood that all the techniques were there long before the Gracies and the only thing that GJJ created was a competition frame that is now the basis of submission grappling.

We don't have photos of Helio in my gym, we don't talk about his mindset, his philosophy, his accomplishments, his ''defense'' system...

We just train

Martial arts practitioners are always considered Fringe Society potentially violent nationalist characters by the average couch potato

As soon as they see Al-Qaeda throwing Karate kicks in their training video they can say I told you so!!!

It's a hell of a lot better than it used to be

I was involved with mixed martial arts from the very beginning and back in the no-holds-barred era you could literally be fired from your job if they found out that you had anything to do with "cage fighting"

I worked for the school board and the local city while running a mixed martial arts gym and was repeatedly threatened by my employers to "minimize my profile" to the sport or suffer the consequences as there had been several news articles and TV shows featuring my MMA Club and they considered us just a bunch of violent freaks

Brazilian here, my great grandparent was part of the integralist movement as well.
First off were the integralist fascists? Well it depends on how you want to define fascism because the integralists were persecuted by vargas ( brazilian president at that time ) and vargas was a know "fascist" himself.
You can put the integralists as a fascist movement since they were against communism, against free market capitalism and had pretty nationalistic view, but them we would have to put a lot of other movements on the fascist banner ( in the end this is a really politicezed view on how to define them as a political movement)

But, one thing that people don't probably know here, there are a lot of different types of fascism and the integralist movement had a very big difference from the nazism fascism... They were not racist, in fact they were one of the first political parties in brazil to be openly against racism and had a lot of black and mixed race people on the party. This is huge cause racist ideas were pretty much mainstream in brazilian politics at that time and the integralists were one of the first movements to go against this.

Everything is fascist nowadays. Cancel beejayjay.
