Media BJ Penn arrested again after assaulting man in Hawaii

Hell of a gimmick that it made his wife call the police because he was having a manic episode

Not too hard to maintain when it's always only your wife's word on all this stuff.

The police reports were all on line. Not once did the cops respond to one of this episodes and arrive while Tony was out of control. He was always fully cooperative. There was one where she said he was doing all this shit to the house and then in the police report the cops said they never even went inside to look lol.

Bro jumped out of a moving car on a busy freeway and was running around like a maniac, yet no one saw this.

There's plenty of other stuff that's bullshit. Like his training method videos. No one seriously trains like that and has any sort of athletic career haha. His tweets are amazing too. All the emojis and the capitalizing every word is just called character writing. I've been paid to do that sort of thing before. It takes effort and intention to write like Tony lol. It's not some lunatic at the keyboard. Always hilarious how the maniac part seems to suddenly turn off when he has to write certain sponsor tweets haha.

Everyone said it was going to end in tragedy once his MMA career was over for Tony because he was such a headcase, but bro was out there working on a degree before his career was over, getting business opportunities in line, and coming in nice and healthy to get easy pay days slapping around influencers.

The dude is smart as fuck. He realized back as early as TUF that his gimmick was easy, fun, and could let him get away with being an asshole, and all the fans would do was eat it up and say "Ah, that's just Tony being Tony."

Putting Tony an Penn in the same bag is laughable. One is losing his mind hanging out in crack dens and getting arrested 6 times in a year, the other is getting degrees, making money, and living the good life.

Tony played the game and won.

It's scary when a trained fighter loses his mind.

I mean if he thinks you're an evil alien or something, BJ could literally kill you with his bare hands. You'd be pretty helpless.

great post and shed some light to tonys story

its 50-50, his chin is gone and the reflexes aren't there. he's probably on meth too. most dangerous moments would be start of the round, but you could probably catch him later.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jason Miller rooming with Penn adding lots of cocaine in the night out in town
Mayhem straightened out and got his life back together.

It's worth noting that Mayhem only fought once after 2012...mostly because he was going through a bunch of stuff. If Penn had also stopped fighting after 2012 (when he lost to Rory), he probably would've spared himself a lot of CTE and may be in a lot better place today.

I'm not saying it's true, but nothing actually adds up when it comes to the idea of Tony being crazy. I'm not saying he doesn't have some issues either, but the whole thing is way too neat for him to be the brain damaged maniac his fans like to portray him as.

This is the issue plaguing every major city now. Homeless schizophrenics roaming and randomly attacking people.

Just re-open all the institutions they closed in the 60s and 70s and just not torture them, like they used to, just change that part. Yes, it would cost money but so does the impact they have when they are running free terrorizing people.

The next BJ thread on Sherdog is going to be him arrested for killing someone.
Anyone living close.to a downtown pretty much anywhere in the country has seen how.bad it is now. Here the encampments are everywhere and you constantly see people passed out in the street or shuffling around.

I know he got chinned by that one guy on the street but who knows how drunk/high he was at the time.

I wouldn't want to tangle with him today when he's sober. And if he gets a triangle or a RNC, he could easily kill someone simply by holding it too long

yea i was more joking, bj penn would still annihilate most if not all.

one time i got to meet him in person and i remember his forearms were huge. that grip would never let go.

You’re not clever, youre just pretending to be a skeptic. The concept is real and described across sports psychiatry as post-career adjustment disorder and identity loss. I called it existential decompression because that’s what it is, a measurable hormonal, behavioral, and structural collapse after the end of a purpose-driven routine. You think you “debunked” it because the exact phrase isnt in Pubmed
Mate, why the aggression? I haven't bothered to search pubmed, but you are contradicting yourself. If it is described across sports psychiatry it for sure should be published and Linked through relevant search engines.

I never heard the term sport psychiatryst to be honest, only sport psychologist. Honestly, i am "skeptic" the term exists, because i guess sport psychologists are for things as motivational adjustment and Performance enhancing, psychiatry is medical treatment of mental ilness and generaly doesn't differentiate between professions of the field. Would be pretty cute now that i think about it to label a psychiatrist or a psychotherapist after the selective treatment of the work description of their selective patient group.
Don't sweat, it's all light hearted fun, you don't have to be offended. Take it easy, it really helps. Maybe there are "Sport psychiatrists" as i guess for high Performance athletes there is more money involved and therefore incentive for practitioners to specialice. I just don't think it's a field but a few selected persons if there is such.

There are so many indicators in your two posts i replied to, that without possible knowing for certain i am lead to assume you are not really familiar with the field you are talking about... just to pick one: adjustment disorder is one of the most low-threshold diagnosis to be found in the field. I know that some General practicioners treat it more as an causal indicator (at least i hope so, otherwise they have even less of a clue what they are doing) but it really isn't. Anything grave, not even talking about bj penn, would be better descriped with a more specific and higher-threshold diagnosis.
For further reading try f43.2 (icd-10).

I haven't tried to "debunk" it, even if following your line of reason it should be pretty easy, since a claim without evidence can be discarded without further investigation (regarding your "they describe it [behind close doors i guess], they just don't publish it" line of reasoning and general "it is so because i say so"
without any insights or linked publication" attitude). I was a little bit curious and a little bit skeptic.

Since your reply was of no value for my curiosity (and your tone leads to no hope further exchange would change that) and i have just learned from you that i am not really skeptic but just pretending to be, this is the end of our short conversation. Fun while it lasted. wish you all the best. Don't be offended so easily.

At least he got a win, maybe he is motivated.

Don't think he has. Mayhem's last jail/prison stint was in 2022-2023 where he served time for dv. There was a separate case in 2021 for felony assault/battery (broke a guys ribs) which might've gotten settled privately.

Yes, I'm talking about him since his release from prison. I've listened to a few interviews of him and he even has his own podcast now. He sounds completely different than the drug addict he was a few years ago. He sounds more like the old Mayhem (still kind of zany) but 15 years older.

With that said, no one knows for sure if he'll go back to drugs or his old behavior. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

I'm with you on that.
Thanks. Ordinary retirement already destabilizes people, routine gone, status gone, hormones and social reinforcement collapse.
Now multiply that by a fighter’s lifestyle, adrenaline spikes, extreme discipline, violence as identity. When that end, the nervous system crashes. Testosterone, dopamine, and cortisol all drop while the brain still expects high stimulation.

Thats why exfighters spiral. It’s not mystery or “CTE every time,” it’s neurochemical withdrawal from purpose and pressure. They’ve lived years in survival mode, and suddenly there’s nothing to survive for.
