Bizarre Cases of the missing and murdered

At least 15 people were 'disappeared' by the IRA during the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Some of them are still missing. The most recent search was for the remains of 19-year-old Columba McVeigh who was disappeared in 1975. A specialist forensic team spent five months in 2013 digging in a bog in County Monaghan, but found nothing. The film highlights the powerful story of the life and harrowing death of widow and mother-of-ten Jean McConville. She was dragged from the arms of her young children by an IRA gang in 1972, then shot and buried. Her body was finally recovered in 2003. Michael McConville explains how at 11 years of age he was tied up and beaten when he threatened to tell police about what had happened. His sister Agnes recalls the abuse they got from other children afterwards, before the siblings were shipped off to various orphanages. The IRA policy of disappearing victims dates back to 1972 when four people were taken from Belfast. It is said to have ended in 1981 after an order from the IRA's governing Army Council. A policy of lies and intimidation appears to have run in parallel with the policy of disappearing people. One family after another explain how they were virtually silenced by a climate of fear. They also had to cope with rumours claiming their loved one was alive and well. The evidence suggests these rumours were invented by the IRA to keep the families away from the truth. A forensic detective outlines the mechanics of the killings and burials. He tells how most of the victims were shot once in the back of the head and then dumped in shallow graves. In some cases the bodies were weighted down with stones in case they rose to the surface if the bog dried out. Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams is challenged about allegations that he ordered the disappearance of Jean McConville. Adams, today a member of the Irish parliament, is also probed about his knowledge of the fate of two IRA men who were disappeared in the same way that same year.

I believe there were definitely more serial killers that we don't know about that existed during the Troubles. The Shankill Butchers were only discovered because they were so careless, leaving a survivor and leaving bodies to be found out in the open (the ringleader still escaped the law until he was executed by the Provisional IRA after his release from prison on a firearms charge). There were likely serial killers that were never caught on both sides of the conflict who planned out their attacks well. It's all too convenient for a serial killer during that conflict as their killings would always be suspected to be IRA or UVF related.

But unfortunate imo. I know he was pretty litigious and sometimes petty but don't think he deserved that. His wife was killed too.

He even gave millions to his cousins when he didn't need to. Set them up however they wanted.
He bought their father's company but it was a legitimate sale and the company was bankrupt at the time. He didn't owe them. Wasn't a serious cutthroat.

Barry was highly litigious. He sued the pool contractor who worked on the indoor pool area that he and Honey were found dead in.

I can't even pretend to know and I could be totally wrong and some family member might have been a part of it - but the fact that Toronto police originally concluded that it was a murder-homicide shows that whomever did this made little to no mistake in the crime. No forced entry, no prints, no foreign murder weapon, (possibly) no camera footage. It seems so slick. One of the true murder mysteries of the world.

Mesfewi worked as a shoemaker and trader in Marrakesh. Assisted by a 70-year-old woman named Annah, Mesfewi would kill young women who came to his shop to dictate letters. He would use drugs to incapacitate his victims before decapitating them with a dagger. Moroccan authorities found the remains of 20 mutilated bodies in a deep pit under his shop, another 16 were discovered in the garden outside.[1] He was caught after the parents of one young victim traced her movements back to his shop. Annah died under torture and Mesfewi confessed that he killed them for their money; often the sums were very small.[2]

nitially Mesfewi's execution was supposed to be crucifixion on May 2, 1906. But owing to protestations from foreign embassies, the decision was taken to behead him.[3] However, public sentiment in Marrakesh was for him to suffer. Every day he was led from his cell to the market square, where he was lashed ten times with rods made from the thorny acacia.[1] It was then decided that, because of the heinous nature of his crimes and as a warning for all, Mesfewi would be walled up alive in the bazaar that stood in Marrakesh's marketplace on June 11, 1906.[2]

Two masons created a hole in the bazaar's thick walls about 2 ft (0.61 m) deep and wide and about 6 ft (1.8 m) high. Chains were fixed to the back wall to keep Mesfewi standing. He apparently was not told what his fate was to be because on the day of his execution, he began screaming for mercy and fighting with his gaolers when he was led to the wall.[1] After he had been chained up, bystanders threw filth and offal at him. The masons then came forward and began laying courses of masonry to brick up the opening. After his entombment, the crowd would be silent, but then cheer every time they heard him scream inside.[1] For the first two days he was heard, before falling silent on the third day. Many in the crowd voiced their anger that he had died too quickly.[1]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danguolė_Rasalaitė

Danguolė Rasalaitė (19 May 1983 – 10 January 2000) was a Lithuanian girl who was sold as a sex-slave in Sweden in late 1999. Her mother had abandoned her when she was 14 years old and left for the USA. When she was 15-16 years old, she was sent from Lithuania by an older man who pretended to be her boyfriend. He promised her a job as a berry picker in Sweden and gave her a fake passport. When she arrived in Sweden, a man welcomed her and locked her in an apartment in Malmö. He said she had to pay him 20,000 kronor for her passport and the transportation from Lithuania to Sweden. She soon understood she would be working as a prostitute.

Rasalaitė was forced to work as a prostitute for two weeks before she escaped the apartment she was imprisoned in. On 7 January 2000, she jumped off a bridge in Malmö after escaping from the apartment and getting raped by a group of men who pretended they would help her. She died three days later at a hospital. Her case stirred much debate on human trafficking.

Now that’s how it’s fucking done.

That should be the fate of all child molesters, rapists, and mass shooters.

I enjoyed his storytelling style but he reminds me a lot of Missing 411.
Just a cursory glance at info about the Panknin disappearance has a direct quote from the brother saying that “We couldn’t have been any more than 100 or 150 feet away.” It seems like a small detail to care about but the video narrator repeatedly references that the mother and brother were, paraphrasing, “no more than ten feet away”. There’s a gigantic difference between ten feet and one hundred feet in a forest. It’s small details like that that have really cast a shadow of doubt on Dave Ps stuff on missing 411 for me. He also tends to play up or obfuscate details of a case.

Also, in the second segment “headlights” the father and son pair sound like classic cases of terminal burrowing due to fatal hypothermia. Hallucinations, confusion, weakness, inexplicable undressing, etc...
Incredibly tragic and I grieve for the father losing his son but it sounds just like a day in the woods gone horribly wrong due to our ongoing lack of respect for a planet that can easily kill us, not anything paranormal. They just really want it to be Bigfoot.

It’s not exactly a a Dyatlov pass incident level of unbelievable.

Not sure about the 411 show.. but yeah, much of Ballens content is stuff I’ve heard of (the big cases anyway).. and yeah some of these stories seem really explainable from a logical perspective. The video I posted wasn’t one of the better ones I’ve seen, he’s got some really decent ones tho and honestly it just seems like something that would be decent to visit around Halloween or something along those lines.

I actually ended up watching a lot of his stuff and it is very fun storytelling if nothing else. He’s a pretty solid narrator.

Pretty much what kept me watching. He’s a solid story teller.

Anyway, thought it would be great for a thread like this.
