History Bizarre Cases of the missing and murdered

Is it me or are the majority of these missing/cold cases from "back in the day" like 70's or at least pre-millenium.

Not just in the OP's link, but in general with these "mystrious dissapearance", serial killer and stuff documentaries. All old 20/30+ year old stuff.

Statistically shouldn't there be an equal amount of killings and stuff throughout the decades or did the media highlight these more? Whilst today these things aren't covered too much by the media so they get little to no publicity?

i don't know the stats behind that but i will say that I can remember the start of a new wave of hysteria and paranoia in the 70's when a little girl came up missing, her name was Heidi something, since then it's never let up, serial killers, stalkers and now terrorists. People are paranoid today, they won't let their children out of their sight, maybe that's good in some ways and maybe that's bad in others but people do not trust each other, that much is clear.

They still go on, they just aren't as publicized anymore.

If you watch the Investigation Discovery channel, you'll see all sorts of new shows on it.

For some reason the new stuff just isn't as interesting as the older stuff. Not sure what the deal is but there's something about the stories from the 70's/80's that just lure you in more. I think it's because shows like Unsolved Mysteries made it seem more interesting than the new stuff does.

i don't know, lots of people go missing each year, if anything, i think it shows how little social value any random individual has. When i was researching the elisa lam case i came across a statistic that said LA has 3000 missing cases a year, who is gonna go look for em?

Yeah, very intriguing case, just a shame that we will most likely never know what truly happened.

Oooooh I love these threads. However am I the only person who doesn't find the Hinterkaifeck mystery very mysterious ? Before importing cheap labor from other countries became normal, farms relied on the unemployable sector of society like people who have prison records to people with lower mental capacity. Males that tended to be strong and muscley but violent, aggressive or in general just a bit too off to hold a regular job.

Honterkaifeck family was an elderly couple with a daughter, children and female housekeeper. No way they ran the farm on their own. Dozens of vagrant temporary hands most probably passed through that farm over the years. Maybe he got let go of in a way that led to a grudge. It could have been because he was flirtacious with the females, he was difficuly listening to direction or something else entirely. The farm was miles from the closest neighbour as many farms were back then so it's not very surprising that nobody saw anything. But the prospect of a ghost or some other explanation is much more exciting for sure. n.n
