Bisping officially retires from MMA

The only notable stat in your legends criteria is that he held the belt. Being a TUF winner doesn't make for being a legend. Leading in significant strikes or having the most fights at MW doesn't make for being a legend. LOL at 2nd most time spent inside the octagon being there.

He has the most wins, but how many actual big wins did he have? 2 or 3? And he's definitely not a pioneer, just because he was the first British fighter they really decided to push doesn't mean anything, in fact he came up short in every big fight until the Rockhold win at the tail end of his career.

Good fighter with longevity, that's it. Not a legend.
You’re dumb

Great news! super happy for Bisping. He is the Jamie Lannister of MMA. I hated his guts in the beginning but his decision to fight clean, his amazing heart, his loyalty to his family and fans, and his grit won me out. He is a damn legend.
Jamie Lannister is legit a great comparison. *spoiler* Jamie’s hand is equivalent to Pings eye - they both did some of their best work after losing something that made hem great, and overcame impressive adversity

Is there any possibility Bisping could repair the damage in his eyes that these dopers did to him?

The detached retina - yes. He’s said many times he was just waiting until he retires until he did it. The new damage in his left eye - I don’t know. I would imagine so, but he, and others, hasn’t said enough on the subject.

There was a time i despised bisping, but the guy was a warrior and grew up. GL in retirement.

No doubt one of the greats.

-Cowardly talked a lot of shit while steadfastly refusing to back any of it up in the octagon.

Says the guy anonymously talking shit about a champion MMA fighter on the internet.

It legitimately blows my mind how lacking in self-awareness some people can be.

Great career, always was a Bisping Fan. Felt like he was misunderstood, and never deserved all the hate he got. With all that being said he is definitely a prick lol.

Think he got offered an ESPN Gig and will do that full time so he’s probably quitting for that

You're not looking at his career objectively, though. You're forgetting that Silva and Dan were out of their primes (Silva was still a great win though) and that even most Bisping fans would admit that he'd lose badly to Silva if he were in his prime. And again, you're not taking the "most UFC wins" stat in context. Outside of two great wins in Silva and Luke, his resume is filled with middling fighters and losses when he would take a step up in competition (Henderson was not a great win at the time either, he was ancient at the time of the rematch).

Also, you think that just because I rightfully do not think that he is a legend, that it must mean that I hate him. You're simply not looking at this objectively.

Bisping was a good fighter. But he was not a great fighter, nor a legend.

A guy can only fight who is in front of him, hardly Bispings fault 'Silva and Dan were out of their primes' when he fought them.

All 'ifs' in your attempt at logic .....IF Silva had been in his prime....Bit like saying IF my aunt had a pair of balls she's be my uncle

No skin off my nose to be fair, I know him, he's a great guy in person, and he honestly doesn't give a flying fuck what anybody on here or anywhere else thinks of him, I asked him that very question a few years ago at a BBQ we were at. He laughed and just said he is respected by his peers. They are the only ones that even enter the equation in his mind.

But get back to bashing a guy that put his body on the line every day of his career if it makes you feel better!

This man paved the way for a whole continent of fighters to have new opportunities to make a living in this sport...

Really hated him on TUF Hendo VS Bisping... celebrated him getting KOd by Hendo.... hated how he illegally kneed Jorge and that spat at his corner...

But all in all, he carried himself really well towards the end of his career, and GSP vs Bisping was one of the most anticipated fights for me last year... and double props to him for saving the first ever China card and stepping up 1 month after getting knocked down and choked out... after Anderson Silva pissed hot again.

Never thought this man would become champion, but through his guys, he showed us that he was brave enough to step up on 2 weeks notice against someone who brutally beat him in the past... and defied all odds by winning that fight.

All in all, you did the sport good, Michael. May you rest well... in good health. Thank you for your sacrifices.

"He just doesn't stop complaining," Bisping said. "He feels like everyone owes him something and preaches on about his father and this and that. He should shut the f**k up--he's not part of God's plan. If there is a god he's got bigger fish to fry than Chris Weidman and his f**king life."

Why do you think I'm bashing him? I'm acknowledging that he had a good career. He's just not a legend. The term "legend" is so overused in MMA, it has basically lost all meaning.

You guys seem to think that if I don't agree that a fighter who just retired is incredible and a legend, that I am somehow bashing him.

... after sitting out a year plus.
...Because he wasn't being offered top opponents, and when he was (Mousasi), Gegard left the UFC, which contributed to the delay. Of all the things to accuse Rockhold of, ducking is laughable.

All the best Michael Bisping

I hope you are healthy and enjoy the rest of your life .

You certainly entertained us all

The way he acted after he beat Rockhold, in the octagon...seconds after winning...to be honest to me completely discovered the type of low life, values and everything you can imagine a person could be... you can tell a lot about a person in defeat, and you can tell a lot about a person in victory... as a human being sorry but he isnt worth much...you kids keep cheering him because he is a warrior, a fighter blah blah blah... to me other things are more important to praise a person

God Bless him and his family. He’s walked a long hard road in this sport and paid some huge tolls to get as far as he has. True warrior and all heart.

Hope he can get that eye partially fixed up now that he doesn’t have to worry about fighting.

War Bisping.

congrats on a good career Michael.

Better than 99% of people who have ever fought in the ring/cage

Fluke champion. Then defended against 62 year old Dan Henderson.

I mean yea, his win over Rockhold was a fluke and pretty much nobody acknowledged him as a real champion after those defenses.

But that kind of isn't how Bisping should be judged. He should be judged based upon the reality that he was a solid top 10 fighter for a long time.

Lucky, yes. A fraud? Nobody believed he was the best MW at any point in his career.
