I read a very enlightening piece a few years ago and your words remind me of it.

It was by a journalist living in Moscow, and titled "The Death of Trust".

The writer is in a cab, in thick freeway traffic, and an ambulance a few cars back has its siren on.

Nobody is budging for it, giving it room to lane change, or deferring in any way.

Amazed, he asks the cabby "no one moves over for ambulances in Moscow?"

"nah that's just some rich asshole trying to get to the airport faster. They do it all the time, so no one moves for ambulances"

And the writer is just flabbergasted. He ponders that regardless of how many ambulances are being used for VIP airport service, there must also be some legitimate ambulances with patients on the roadways but no one lets them through in thick traffic which in turn could doom those patients.



Is there corruption in research? There's corruption in nearly every human field, especially when money is involved.

But when the methods are sound and the results are reliably reproducible, that gets harder and harder to fake.

We shouldn't outright dismiss everything due to a pathological lack of trust. We can trust the scientific method. We can trust reliable experimental and analytical models that are precise, able to be replicated.

It lessens the severity of your symptoms, that’s about it. You can still get it. Even then, there hasn’t been enough research to define what Can and can’t do. I don’t really see the point of getting the vaccine.

Was gonna get vacinne tomorrow but gonna see how this thread pans out first

I take call in the local hospital quite regularly. I’ve seen over 40 people die from covid since October. I’ve seen zero people die from a vaccination. I’ve seen one person who had anaphylaxis from her first dose, and she’s alive and well (and allergic to pretty much everything under the sun). It’s a no brainer.
