Fedor vs Werdum was a huge upset because of Fedor's record. But if anyone were to submit Fedor it would be Werdum, the best HW BJJ practitioner.

To me Gonzaga beating CroCop in all aspects of MMA and finishing him with CroCop's signature move was far more unexpected.

Mostly agree, but Usman vs Edwards 2 is nowhere close to being in the same league as GSP/Serra, I mean the underdog won, but that underdog also won the rematch and the matchup between them was never considered a big mismatch. GSP is lightyears ahead of Serra, yet he managed to lose to him, that's in such a league of it's own that no other WW upset should be mentioned alongside it.

There's only been a handful of women's featherweight fights, pretty sure that's the biggest upset there. It's literally the only title loss in that division.

Depends what you mean.

Biggest upset by fan base perception? Gaethje v tony was shocking to casuals.
Betting odds? Pena v Nunes is a good example.
Biggest upsets to people who know the sport? GSP v Serra comes to mind. Yan v sterling 2 was a big upset. Strickland v Izzy.


I don’t personally consider max volk and usman edwards big upsets, in fact I know quite a few people who picked them. But to the casual fan base they were.


Peformances for me personally that come to mind as shocking upsets or close decisions: Islam v volk 1 was shocking. Dalby v bonfim. Whittaker v DDP. Pena v Nunes. Yan v Sterling 2, Said Nurmagomedov v Martinez, hermansson v pyfer, Izzy v Strickland, Brady v Gastelum, Gane v Jones, Dillashaw v Cejudo

I was very surprised by the outcomes of the above.

Zhang weili was only 2-1 lol. And Rose was a former proven champion. How she did it was shocking, but her winning in general was not a huge upset
