Big Biceps/UpperBody for the most part = More Power compared to Big legs/lower body fighters

I know people don't want to admit that bicep/lats/trap/chest/back size matters way more in fighting compared to legs.

I know the cool thing to say is "The power comes from the ass/legs, they hit harder!!!" LMFAO...Lets look at the best punchers in history.

People will claim that tyson got most of his power from his massive legs...I disagree....Tyson had p4p one of the best upperbodies in boxing ever, best biceps as well....Nobody came close to his power.

I seen plenty of boxers with great lower legs like tyson.....None of them hit close as hard as tyson

Costa is another example...Just look at how big/shredded he is on his upper body...Now look at his legs...Sure his legs aren't small but they aren't great either....Costa knows that a huge upperbody = Power

Fedor is another one....Didn't give a damn about lowerbody...Sure he was a fatty but most of that fat was on his upperbody which gave em power.

Robbie.....Leg day not even once....Great upperbody/biceps...Good V Taper.

Hendo proved Calfs don't matter at all in MMA

Huge upperback/body compared to legs....No Calf Master Race.

inb4 people post pics of fighters who have massive legs but also had a massive upperbody but claim their power comes from the legs lol.

Now I know we live in the age of Squats/Deadlifts are the best, and massive legs are amazing.....but reality is, upperbody matters way much more, no matter how many facebook memes say otherwise and talk about leg day and shit.
watch whittaker destroy romero twice for superior striking.

Wrong. Striking power comes from the Glutes and the torque they generate.

it is why guys like Yoel, Nganou and Conor have such power Ass= Torque = power numnuts.

Huge Upper body is just gonna drain dat cardio.

I'm sure its upper body man. All power punchers are either muscular and wide shouldered, or Mark Hunt/Andy Ruiz/Butterbean types with tons of muscle underneath their fat and broad torso's. That seems to be the most consistent trait, wide shoulder/torso, not glutes IMO (hit and miss if power punchers have it).

lol, fool. Have you looked at Tyson's legs?

True, it's the butt. Look at the NFL linebackers, that's where their power comes from.
Check out Carwin's "ghetto booty" as he put it

Hips, Lats, Glutes, Calves, Thighs, Traps, Triceps

In that order.

Biceps add thud and reduce speed + take more energy. Overall, you don't want biceps as a puncher unless you need them for something else.

Mike Tyson was a size 44 chest. He's not particularly wide. His power came from his hips and lower body.

There is no perfect MMA body. But I do think it’s better to be lean than muscular

2019 the secret of power in fighting was discovered by a member on sherdog.

It's amazing for somebody who's never thrown a punch and can't even see his own dick in his mom's basement.

Good job buddy

Power comes from your back and core. It stabilizes the entire body.

Spot on mate anyone that has had any kind of training knows this.

This is an all time dumb thread on Sherdog. Wow.

Talk about a TS who like looking at shirtless men.

Vitor and Bones' got very tiny calves and quads, but big power in their hands.

But again they also have some other stuff in their bodies aswell.

Anybody mention shoulders? IMO hips > glutes > back > shoulders > other (pecs/bis/tris/abs/obliques/calves/quads/hams)
And genetics raise the ceiling.

There are power punchers and relatively weak punchers of every different body type you can imagine, yet everyone has some random theory about it like Rogan with his wide shoulders talking point.

But I agree that calves are the most overrated muscle of all time in terms of athletics, in fact there may be a correlation between small calves and speed/explosiveness.

That fact that you're is talking about big biceps in correlation to big power says a lot about your understanding of the human body etc.
Biceps are probably the least used muscle in a punch. I would say the biggest factor would be ones ability to transfer weight into a punch, so a strong core with a lot of rotational explosiveness would be key. And yes glutes are part of your core.

Another factor like some one else said would be a large frame/joints/bones ,not necessarily muscular. A good indication of this would big hand, ankles and wrists

In saying that, I would like to know what gives Ngannou his ridiculous short punch power, his ability to KO someone with what looks like an arm punch is seriously impressive

power comes from the distance between the insertion of the bicep tendon on the radial tuberosity and the joint pivot on the elbow. this area is known as the 'moment arm' and the larger the moment arm (aka the bigger the distance of insertion) the more torque can be generated. it's all genetic

True and that mainly applies to the same concept onto the big larger muscles that generate said power like the glutes. Another factor is a thin waist and wide upper body. The V shape figure coupled with an explosively efficient nervous system.

Quagmire has one hell of a left hook, probably similar to TS.
TS do you pump iron with both arms?
