There’s no reason to have a death penalty other than your own vengeful wishes and feelings.
It’s not an effective deterrent, it doesn’t make economic sense, it opens up a wide range of Constitutional issues such as due process issues, cruel and unusual punishment issues, equal protection issues regarding fairness in how it’s applied…all sorts of things.
Plenty of these perpetrators don’t want to live, and prefer execution, so I don’t really think the point you’re trying to make there makes sense.
The idea that there’s no justice unless we allow the government to execute people is nonsense. The idea that people like me are “soft on crime” because we don’t want the government to execute people is nonsense.
The death penalty is not only inhumane, it doesn’t achieve any worthwhile outcome. I am happy and proud to stand with groups like Amnesty International and the ACLU that oppose the use of the death penalty everywhere.
