Beterbiev vs Smith Jr June 18th ESPN

Also tend to agree that Beter is not normal, I mean some men are just cut from harder stuff than other men… and Beter grinds those men to dust in the palm of his hand, the man is a world class boxer who also happens to be a world class tank. I’m not arguing he shouldn’t be remembered as a destroyer, I just don’t know how to rate him yet.
Speaking of Wilder to his credit he has a dangerous short straight right. He's deadly at a couple ranges (long & middle distance). He generally needs space to punch though. Kovalev is in the same boat. His signature shot, also the straight right hand, typically requires full extension as Ward showed. With big punchers like those two you can crowd/smother them. Opponents aren't afforded this with Beterbiev. He's very dangerous on the inside even in really tight spaces. He even prefers to be close to his opponents. And when they go to tie-up for survival he denies them. He'll push them right off as he has a clear strength advantage over the other guys in his division.

They actually did measure Beterbiev's power once with his KO punch against Campillo. That shot generated a 973 pound-force per square inch. Whether their measurement detector is accurate though we can't know. Nevertheless it was interesting to see on the broadcast.

Yeah, his pop is definitely impressive but ATG power means achieving over more professional fights at world level.

He definitely needs to smash more world level guys. He had a genuinely fierce reputation as a big puncher coming up from the amateurs because he did exactly that. There he terrorized lots of quality world level boxers. Some of the more recognizable names he stopped/kayoed that turned pro were Gvozdyk (which predictably was the storyline leading up to their pro unification fight), Dorticos, and Sillakh. He even put Usyk on his ass in the amateurs.

This one-punch KO over Shabazz was nice at the time

Here's another effortless one-punch KO over Sillakh

The way he broke Gvozdyk in the pros was downright scary.

It really was. I loved his straight right hands to the body. After just a few of those Gvozdyk noticeably slowed down a lot. That was on top of Artur's physicality, pushing down on his head, throwing him to the canvas, and pushing him around the ring. The sooner Artur fights Bivol the better. He needs to unify all of those titles. That's his goal to become undisputed. Smith takes him one step closer.

Obviously he HAS power, I'm just saying it isn't as massive as it's made out to be.
The guy weighs less than most cruiser weights, has absolutely shit technique, and has knocked down and/or out every single person hes been in the ring with.

Questioning Wilders power is just absolutely ridiculous.

Getting pumped for this one, both men should be there to be hit, I wonder if smith can take the damage.

I mean that's really vague but safe to say Wilder is a big time hitter...saying he's not because he hasn't beaten great opponents doesn't really make that much sense.

I find a lot of people obsesses with power confuse it with elements not related to power. Wilder was a world champ pretty much simply because he hit that hard, and he also downed Fury despite Fury being a better boxer than him in every way.

I mean you have to have insanely high standards to question his power, yeah, maybe he doesn't hit harder than Earnie Shavers but he's pretty damn up there.

Well it looks like those sparring horror stories about Artur are true. Here's one of his sparring partners after a session. Talk about busted up! Both of his eyes are jacked and his nose is badly bloodied. His assistant trainer John Scully says back in the day Artur would've sent the whole camp home (particularly if he went to the body with full power). Nowadays though he takes it "easy" on them. I hope these guys are getting paid well to spar him. Geez.

Has Smith ever been down? Maybe he's packing granite. Still don't think it'll be enough against those granite fists, though. He also lost to Vlasov.

Great fight, can't wait.

Smith was indeed stopped once. To his credit though it was clear back in 2010 when he was only a green pro 7 fights into his career. Some guy named Eddie Caminero stopped him in the 4th round. I'm not sure how many times he's been put down though. Technically you can still get stopped on your feet so I'm not sure how that stoppage loss actually played out. I never saw it. Artur will put him away. The only way he doesn't is if Smith catches lightning in a bottle and manages to get him out of there first.

Pumped for this. Got Betterbeast by KO in the 8th or 9th. Smith will start by holding his ground for a few rounds but then get broken down pretty soundly. Someone getting stopped, that for sure.

One of the best fights on paper we are gonna get, without a doubt fireworks while it lasts, head says Arthur takes it via usual stoppage, gut says it will be a dangerous fight and maybe the upset, I seriously can’t wait.

Here's an interesting quote directly from Beterbiev's head trainer Marc Ramsay. It sounds like his intense sparring is along the lines of a shark tank or iron man type of setup.

“I don’t even like to mention the sparring partners because that gives the other team an idea of what we want to do in the fight. What I would say is that Beterbiev is like Mike Tyson in the ‘80s. We need about seven or eight guys and they need to be strong, healthy, and fresh. To be honest, I don’t have anyone who does more than about eight rounds with Artur. Even in sparring, he drops a lot of guys.”
