BETA Academy owner explains ending relationship with Lloyd Irvin

lol, you seriously think this is about the spam emails? you can't see the big picture here

I'm not under the illusion that Nakapan, or Hall, or anyone else is a saint. I just fail to see how any of the accusations Lloyd and company have leveled against them make Lloyd look any better.

Lloyd has been in quicksand ever since the NYE rape. he should have recognized the gravity of the situation and issued a statement, cut ties with the two accused, and just shut the fuck up for a while. I would have just gone on with life thinking that Lloyd Irvin was just this big famous BJJ coach from Camp Springs. seriously I had no idea

its everything he has done since then that has made him look like a manipulative psychopath. every single statement, apology letter, video he releases makes him look worse and puts him in a worse position. to use a BJJ metaphor, it looks like he is spazzing. is it ironic?

Way to miss the point. The NYE rape is about two shitbags exploiting the trust of their extremely drunk teammate. It's not about Lloyd. And frankly, the people blaming it on Lloyd instead of the two raping slimeballs that did it is horse shit.

She was unconcious and they let her head slam into the ground as they did it. When they were done, they left her laying on the concrete. And then they had the gall to brag about it as a sexual conquest the next day.

Any of the bullshit Lloyd Irvin has done since then pales in comparison. He's a scumbag for sure, but you guys are completely losing sight of Schultz & Maldonado in this whole thing. It's kind of sickening really.

no dude. again, you miss the point completely.

we are not talking about those two shitbags because there is nothing to talk about. they are going to be tried for rape, as well they should. there is no need to discuss that because there is nothing more that needs to be done. you don't get that?

I'm sure he see the error in his ways and is repenting. Like I mentioned before, it takes real guts to turn your back on a person you call master for 10 years.

My point is Nak hired people like Omega Red, taught him and stood by him when he does his TLI sales tactics.

It's like a pimp driving a Bently repenting his sins.

I feel you. Nak needs to change his actions as well as his words. I have a feeling he will though. Time will tell I guess.

I take my stupid phone holster off and put it on my desk when I get to the office in the morning.

As a guy who carries, I think it's pretty obvious that you don't have experience with it.

Just take it from me -- you learn how to sit with whatever carry setup you use. You don't need to take off your holster to sit down.

Well, he left TLI. He fired Omega Red. I'd say that's a pretty good start.

Also, as per Yelp:

Hello All,
Your reviews have been heard and we have made improvements. My name is Luis and I will be handling all member concerns from now on at BETA Academy.

We have made a few changes to our membership agreements and we will be more flexible from now on to accommodate our members as best we can. We are focused on providing great customer service along with our great martial arts programs.

Takes more than a letter online to make up for what he was doing, etc. IMO.

Not to mention the two separate reasons for leaving......

I agree. Actions speak louder than words. He has to take action too.

I think he is though from the accounts of his students. He already seems to have ditched some of the predatory aspects of the contracts and the 30 day trial period.

People are going to be watching now, and if he keeps everything the same, he is going to get called out for it. He can't fuck a lot of people out of their money the way his former GM brags about and claim the moral high ground just because he's not with Lloyd anymore. People will see right through that.

I predict that you will see some real changes. I feel that he is being genuine here. But if you are skeptical, time will tell.

You're choosing to go down the road of snark as opposed to being rational. I'm not talking about about what I think that LI was thinking. I'm speaking about his actions.

When you say "he still thinks it's okay to rape people", I don't consider that rational discussion. I consider it snark, and so I'm going to respond to that point in kind.

A rational point would be to say his actions make him appear self-interested, and as though he's merely trying to avoid any consequences for himself or his business. I can see the point on that, and understand why people would feel that way.

I still think it's ultimately you guys viewing everything he does through the lens of your personal feelings toward him. When you start out with the presumption that he's a self-serving scumbag, everything can be spun to fit that narrative. So it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy that just reinforces how you already felt about the guy. Thus, holding a free rape prevention seminar becomes some sort of sinister deed whose only possible motives are self-serving.

But that is the key you "were trained on all this stuff" your knowledge came from somewhere else... These martial arts school owners do not have this knowledge... The only way for them to obtain this knowledge; is to be taught it like you were... Its clear to see that Lloyd has used this knowledge to build his academy into one of the best BJJ facilities around... Many very well respected martial arts school owners have also credited their current level of success to Lloyd's system

Its great that your sharing your knowledge for free!.. but there is a big market for this kinda off stuff... Because many people in society lack the ability to synthesize the vast amount of information available to us; into knowledge that they can practically apply... Hence the current Life Coach craze which has boomed during this information age

This:

Yes, guys do need to learn this stuff somewhere. Whether it's from Lloyd or someone else, it pretty much has to come from someone else. It's not intuitive.

I do not believe that the guy who teaches it initially though deserves that much credit for building the business. It is really not that easy. They can point you in the right direction, but the vast majority of the work is on you as the owner.

This stuff is not turnkey, one size fits all like they tell you at the seminars. How many instructors have gone to Lloyd's seminars? 100 at least -- maybe 1000. How many schools are as successful as Nakapan's? That's hard to say exactly, but I'm sure it is far less than 100.

I think the main reason you are hearing so many people credit all of their success is what Nakapan talks about in his letter: it's part of the pyramid scheme. Part of the seminar instruction teaches you to rave wildly about the effectiveness of Lloyd's methods under the idea that you building up Lloyd will indirectly help you since you are now associated with him to some degree. Everyone hyping things up is a huge part of these pyramid schemes.

So I don't really believe that Lloyd built Nakapan up from the ground. I'm sure he played a role and gave some ideas, but the reality is that most of the success is attributable to the guy actually implementing it.

If your reasoning was correct, then in fact Lloyd's own success was not due to his own merits but rather due mostly to the other internet marketing seminars he went to like Dan Kennedy. Lloyd did not come up with hardly any of this on his own; he was taught this stuff at a seminar just the same as his proteges.

Although I am obviously not a fan of Lloyd, I think it would be foolish to say that whatever success he has achieved was due to his teacher's influence rather than his own initiative.

Dude nobody is losing sight of those two guys. They are in jail and awaiting trial. I am pretty sure they are due in court again before the end of February. Believe me people are watching, and those developments will be reported.

I know you are not a troll, but I seriously think you just like being a contrarian on things. That's okay if that's how you feel I guess, but there really is no point in arguing with you about it.

I get that there's no new developments in their case to talk about. Yet the NYE case has been brought up and discussed in the context of blaming it on Irvin. That's bullshit. Maldonado had only been there a few weeks, and Schultz only about 7 months. They went out partying for NYE and did something that was absolutely barbaric. The blame falls squarely in their laps.

When you suggest that Irvin is responsible for their actions, I take exception to that. That's not being contrarian, it's having strong feelings that the blame for the NYE rape stay with the men who actually committed the crime.
