The name-brand cordless drills I've owned are DeWalt, Makita, Ryobi, Black&Decker. The Makita was excellent in nearly every way, the Ryobi crap in nearly every way. The DeWalt had cheap bearings; the bit was wobbly after a short time and got bad enough to throw out the drill. I had a heavy duty corded DeWalt drill that had the same poor bearing quality. The B&D was horrible but cost nothing.
Festools and Hiltis are incredible but insanely expensive, forget about them. Makitas are pretty reasonable and higher quality than the DeWalts and Milwaukees IMO.
I had a Makita chainsaw, and experienced sawyers who borrowed it said it was the best saw that size they had ever handled.
