Best home defense melee weapon

I have a 12 inch dagger in my bed room, but my weapon of choice would be the fireplace poker.

Realistically, fucking someone up with a sword or dedicated melee weapon won't be legally accepted where I'm from. This is mostly fantasy as my best bet to be legally safe is to get an intimating looking weapon and hope they get scared off. Self-defense laws are asinine here. There was a case of a dude who beat up two home invaders with his fists by himself, and the court decided he used "too much" force and sentenced him to prison. If I stab someone breaking into my house and I end up killing him, I am afraid I will get charged with murder.

Mossberg ftw. But other than that, 9 times out of 10 my baseball bat with the razor ribbon on the end worked pretty well as an intimidation weapon. It was handy if you needed to use it too, though, because guys tend to try and rush a bat but a bit of pressure and scraping from the razor ribbon and they usually back off into swinging range again.

Polearms are a no no, you would be ineffective at close range. I would suggest a baseball bat or more preferably a bat with nails and razors in it or a firemans axe. Realistically, in an armed home invasion situation, it is going to be you against multiple armed people of colour - in other words, unless you are a Krav Maga wiz, you goin' down. Your best bet is to have something you can indiscriminately swing with and rend flesh so that you shock and scare the perps away; you wanna go for a "oh snap that craycray" response from them.

Nope, I was specifically referring to white folks, since you seem to be assuming that's who everyone in this forum is.

White folks are more likely to be killed by white folks and burglarized by white folks than "people of color" over that of the the proportion of the general population. Across the board, the victims of white criminals are white people because criminals target people they know and/or are in their own (poor) white neighborhoods

I'd be wanting shurikens for when you first spot them (or dart gun, including blow dart option), considering caltrops depending on the distance. If you can be shooting them with darts and they have to clear caltrops they could be pretty damaged by the time they close the distance to you. The next bit would depend on the dimensions on your home. Probably a knife that has a fist guard to give you an edge in knife to knife fight.

Really knowing how to use whatever you've got is key...

A chainsaw or acetylene torch would have a good psychological edge to them...
