Best casting choices in a movie

John Cazale as Fredo.

Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman. I wasn't a massive fan of the movie and prefer the book, but Bale was perfect and I can't imagine anyone else in that role. He was so good he enhances the book with how much he brought to the character

Tom Cruise would have worked too lol

Im Going with real historical characters on this. Joe Pesci in Casino. The character was based on Tony Spilatro. Supposedly Spilatro was a hard street thug who would kill as just part of business. He also was street smart but lost his way. There are videos of Spilatro outside court on various cases and Pesci nailed the character. 1000011832.jpg

Ben as "Simple Jack".
Can't imagine anyone doing a better job in THAT role.

Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man.
Dusty is a method actor.
He must have hit himself in the head with a brick in preparation for that role.

During the filming of Marathon Man (1976), Laurence Olivier, who had lost patience with Method acting two decades earlier while filming The Prince and the Showgirl (1957), was said to have quipped to Dustin Hoffman, after Hoffman stayed up all night to match his character's situation, that Hoffman should "try acting ... It's so much easier."[23]

Or ingested some mind-altering drugs.

I remember reading what you posted about Olivier's advice to Hoffman. Found it rather humorous.

Brandon Lee as Eric Draven in The Crow. They have tried to recast the lead role in The Crow films countless times and none of them are ever as good as Brandon Lee was in the original film.
Ernie Hudson did a lot of the heavy lifting on that one.
And speaking of Ernie Hudson - his role in Congo. I don’t think anyone else could have played that role.

The movie wasn’t any good, but Christopher Walken in The Prophecy. He doesn’t even have to act to convince me he’s a fallen angel. Just look at him,
