News Benson Henderson retired

Bendo was cool. I often took the "other side" in his big fights due to the opposition being more to my liking, but he always was a top-tier guy both as a fighter and a dude. Hopefully he is financially well off enough to stay retired and not having to return later on to mess up his health.

And this is one of the iconic UFC moments that should live forever :)

this is why people will never understand EITHER diaz.
forced the other guy into a long war.
they made fights.

Hope Benson is set & doing well for himself.

Benson also made fights. Pure legend.

Record says otherwise.
An objective viewing says otherwise. And Frankie was more exciting than Bendo. At least he had one finish among his title defenses (Maynard). He also finished Oliveira, Mendes, Cub Swanson and Yair Rodriquez. Bendo had 2 finishes in 15 UFC fights, and neither were against fighters who did anything relevant.

I don't hate Bendo and don't like to diss him at his retirement, but bashing Frankie in this thread is ridiculous.

He went over to Bellator way passed his prime. LOL @ he wasn't quite good enough to the win Bellator belt.

Your post is shite.

Bendo is a legend. Hope he has a great post fight career. Always enjoyed watching him.
I wonder if it's a Worldwide regular who always post about how "overrrated" UFC fighters are? Why didn't he mention
  • Hector Lombard going 7-0 in Bellator and being their MW champ...then going 3-8-1 in the UFC
  • Michael Chandler: 18-5 in Bellator, but 2-4 in the UFC so far
  • Will Brooks: 9-1 in Bellator and 1-3 in the UFC
Yes, going to Bellator in your mid-30s, and clearly several years past your prime probably won't work out as well as fighting in your 20s and early 30s

I'm still salty about his split decision abilities and the robbery win over Frankie in the rematch, but no denying he was one of the greatest LWs we've seen

Not relevant but funny how it's Khabib's own blood who just sent him to retirement. :)

Much hespect to Benson, though. An all-time great
Yeah, I've heard that claim about Bendo being a really tough match-up for Khabib but I don't buy it. Bendo was a good wrestler, but for some reason Pettis had his number. This is the same Pettis who was often bullied around and controlled by superior wrestlers (Guida, Eddie Alvarez, even some FWs). I can't see a guy who struggled so much with Pettis on the ground being able to do much against Khabib. Chandler also suplexed Bendo several times and outgrappled him...though Bendo was a few years past his best days by then.

Watch WEC 43, WEC 46, WEC 53, UFC on Fox 1 vs Guida, him verses Jim Miller, him against Nate Diaz and Melendez at UFC on Fox 5 and 7, and UFC Fight Night 60 against Thatch if you need a crash course on Benson Henderson. That guy was great once upon a time.

I'll just be honest, the WEC/SF/late 2000s/early 2010s is my favorite era of MMA. I was the only person I knew who watched WEC cards on Versus mid-week and got my brother and his best friend into MMA around then, who I still split PPVs with to this day. I recall him getting Varner in that standing guillotine. Him escaping all those crazy Cerrone subs (don't get me started on WEC, I could write a damn book about it).

I vividly remember us being gotten to when Pettis effortlessly subbed Benson in a round and he told Rogan that the sub fucking hurts and that's why he tapped. I just feel obligated to give those guys shout outs. WAR Benson. Bendo bless.
Throw in the Khabilov finish as well, I think most ppl were writing him off already at that point. Pretty fun fight too

It's his gimmick. The guy just throws random, aggressive takes out there moments after the fighters he backs do well so he can prop them up. It also vacillates the other way as well, him dumping on guys aggressively the second they lose.

a fucking underrated champion if there ever was one. his fights in WEC and UFC during his run up to and championship reign were amazing. super flexible, smooth, fucking hard leg kicks, punches, dude seemingly had it all. I was happy he beat Edgar, got revenge for my boy BJ PENN. the fact that he was a local fighter too, even fucking better. i went to his aunts convenient store, the one his mom used to own, there are benson pictures everywhere. pretty fucking dope. WAR BENSON HENDERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a fucking legend, obtained UFC gold, a fucking great career.

Regarding Will Brooks why wouldn’t you count that win? Do you also not count Clay Guida’s win over Anthony Pettis because it happened at a TUF Finale?
