News Benoit Saint-Denis vs Mauricio Ruffy for UFC FN Paris, 6th of September

The amount of people counting BSD out was insane, like he wasn't by far the best grappler ruffy had ever faced.
Yeah, good catch. I was in that camp and thought BSD would have very little chance. I know he's a pressure grappler but to me he just seems so sloppy and predictable, kinda like Dariush in a way. But they both have found a way to make it work even though all they do is so telegraphed lol.

Fight nerds have all shown really solid counter grappling so really quite surprised to see BSD just molest Ruffy like that after how hyped he was.

I didn't expect this to be an easy fight for Ruffy but thought he would be able to control distance and win a scrappy fight from range en route to an UD while catching/dropping BSD a few times along the way.

Ruffy was still able to escape mount and hit sweeps, though he brainfarted twice giving up top position trying to get the fight back to the feet. You shouldn't be scared of BSD's guard, you have position, do some damage. He decided to let him up. I'm sure that's something that will be worked on.

Ruffy didn't believe in his grappling and it was evident from the first seconds of the fight. The guy was super reactive to any level change feint BSD threw at him and was afraid to let go when they were on the feet. The thought of having to grapple a better grappler crippled his game more than it should have to be honest. I think he'll come back better from this, though. He's still got some time and potential and a good camp behind him.

Yeah Im really hoping the Ruffy hype gets BSD bet into +200 or even +300 range.

I was personally hoping for Gamrot vs BSD and Ruffy vs Haqaprast

Let's hope for BSD vs. Gamrot next. They've been calling eachother out back and forth for years now.

Agree, potential barn burner.

The sort of fight that scares the UFC, though, because somehow their collective imaginations will conjure up a grappling-based fight - the fact it could easily be an awesome grappling-based fight won't be enough of a carrot.

Could still happen though.

I don't think it would be that close honestly, seeing what Moicano did to BSD and Ruffy reversing him a couple times.

I think it will be close enough on account of Gamrot isn't a finisher or particularly dangerous.

The reason I think it will be fun is BOTH BSD and Gamrot routinely lose advantageous positions, only in a slightly different manner to the other.

Gamrot gets reversed a lot, he just never stops.

Gamrot would be the favourite, but BSD's aggression on the feet could see the pendulum swing the other way - maybe.

Gamrot routinely gets cracked and wobbled so maybe. I'm struggling to find Top 10 fights BSD can win though. Maybe Gaethje.

Moicano on top or on your back is far more dangerous than gamrot on you. Gamrot is getting old now and slowing a bit in my opinion, where as bsd is getting better and finally with a legit team. I'd favor bsd to crack him enough on the feet and in the clinch to get a win. I don't see gamrot's cardio wrestling approach being enough to stop the violence that bsd brings for 3 rounds. Benoit has a 100 percent finish rate, and because gamrot has grape hands and not great top control, bsd would have plenty of opportunities to find fight altering offense

@rjmbrd @Boguentoo

Tried warning you guys

Saved bud. It's all in good fun though. It really was a grappler vs. striker type fight as I thought. The grappler just is a fucking dog, and the striker isn't experienced with grapplers and pressure at this level.
ruffy really disappointed me in this one. I am very, very surprised with this one. He doesn´t know how to defend basics clinch trips!

How in 2025 those brazilians guys don´t know how to defende takedowns form the clinch? WTF!?

Brazil has one of the best judo schools and brazilian mma coachs don´t use them to evolve the overall game!

Sambo is like a mix of wrestling + judo and they train only single and double legs yet. I am ashamed for that. They promised a Goat level "Jose Aldo takedown defense" and delivered some James Toney takedown defense. hahahaha

BSD has good takedowns and was clearly physically stronger in there. There's probably only a handful of guys at LW who he wouldn't takedown from that body lock position. But yes, Ruffy clearly has some work to do. He got pressured back to the fence more easily than I thought he would. I think BSD surprised him with the head kicks followed by immediate low takedown shots. Ruffy seemed befuddled.
