Ben Askren On Burkman's UFC Deal

Ben's in a tough spot. If he ever makes it to the UFC it will just look like he is caving into Dana and I'm sure Dana would continue to run his mouth about how much Askren needs him.

I think if he makes it to the UFC.....Ben and Dana will be all buddy buddy. Dana always finds a way to spin things his way.

Askren should call Randy and Tito and get their thoughts

If Askren keeps winning, the UFC will want him, and all the trash talking will just generate more interest in him and his fights.

Ben shouldn't have talked so much shit when he was in Bellator. He's a product of his own poor choices. Common sense dictates that you wouldn't talk trash about the NFL if you were best player int he CFL.

Didn't Dana launch the first salvo?

I think Ben "started it" by insulting the drug testing in the sport of MMA, someone mentioned Dana saying a certain way of testing would be impossible, to which Askren said he is full of it. (2 years later they have increased the drug testing to the way which was once called impossible)

Shortly after that was Dana's famous comments about how when ambien can't sleep it takes Ben Askren & that he would rather "watch flies f*ck than watch Askren".

Before all of that there is a video of Dana being on the phone pissed off at the sherdog website for having a front page of article calling Askren a future star instead of having a front page article previewing the local event, although I wouldn't consider that insult.

Haha maybe if you were the one to put Fitch out then you could have had that chance. But alas, you'd rather be a keyboard tough guy and be the big fish in a fish cup.

If you watched his the fights he has had lately, it's not boring. I don't even like the guy too much but they arn't boring lol

No he's not, not even a little bit. Bellator not re-signing him and UFC not signing him are great moves on there part, both orgs have exciting dynamic fighters at WW, the last thing they needed was a boring ass fighter LnPing for three rounds.

Was this before or after he started winning in the UFC and making them money and shutting down Ireland and crap... ??

Oh wait... never mind :)

Look at the GOAT getting treated like shit by Zuffa

Since 2012 (The last 2+ years and as we know you are generally only as good as your last fight :))

One decision in 2+ years is "boring" ?

Maybe from before but over the last few years he has been far less boring than some other 170 pounders that are IN the UFC :)

win Nobutatsu Suzuki One FC 19 - Reign of Champions
Aug / 29 / 2014 TKO (Punches)
Olivier Coste 1 1:24
win Bakhtiyar Abbasov One FC 16 - Honor and Glory
May / 30 / 2014 Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke)
Yuji Shimada 1 4:21
win Andrey Koreshkov Bellator MMA - Bellator 97
Jul / 31 / 2013 TKO (Punches)
Jason Herzog 4 2:58
win Karl Amoussou Bellator MMA - Bellator 86
Jan / 24 / 2013 TKO (Doctor Stoppage)
Jason Herzog 3 5:00
win Douglas Lima BFC - Bellator Fighting Championships 64
Apr / 06 / 2012 Decision (Unanimous)
Josh Rosenthal 5 5:00

None of this has anything to do with why Askren's not in the UFC. It's got nothing to do with his mouth or what org he has or currently fights for.

The reason why the UFC refuses to sign Ben is because most of his fights are very boring but he has the skill to beat exciting contenders. If Ben wasn't as good of a fighter as he is, the UFC would've signed him already. It's the same reason the UFC released Fitch, Shields and Okami the first chance they could because they were all boring fighters that had the skill level to beat exciting contenders. Fighters like that are bad for ratings but difficult to release once signed cause they always win their fights.

Seriously, if GSP had finished 4 fights in a row Dana would probably have sucked his **** live in the octagon by now.

You are right, although i'm one of the people (the only one) who misses the old days where he trolled his opponent in the cage (Koreshkov) instead of looking for the quick finish.

I like GSP and I don't even like Askren that much because he's a bit too cocky for my liking and now that he was being a @)(#@ to burkman also... blah.. but yer right lol... that's why I don't understand how some of these guys come in here and take a dump on Askren for no reason at all other than generalization of his career in bellator.

Let's clue in on the recent history and there has to be some logic to suggesting part of the reason why he is not in the UFC today is because of how he speaks carries himself and whatever...

Why doesn't Askren spend more time promoting his fights in ONE FC, instead of constantly berating Zuffa? I mean I seriously have no idea who he's fought / will fight in ONE FC, but I do know all his thoughts and feels about Dana.

The answer is pretty obvious, he is promoting himself to the American fans by talking about the UFC, regardless of who he talks about in the ONE FC most American fans aren't going to care. To the media overseas (the majority of the viewers) he focus's on his opponents more, so he is doing his job overseas; while trying to remain visibility in America. I would say he is succeeding with that as much as one could hope.

He doesn't know his next opponent, but he is asking to be on the Philippines card at the beginning of December, but a lack of opponent might not allow him to return that quickly. Santos is probably his next logical opponent, but Santos has a fight in November, so if they give him a fight in December I have no clue who it would be against.

Most recent story on the sherdog front page is about Burkman.

The entire comments thread is about Askren.

The guy is doing something right.

Thank You, that actually explains it. I guess he's keeping his name in the headlines - if only he could do it without being so anti-Zuffa (only because I would love to see him come to fight in UFC).

If this guy cut that stupid haircut off, and quit acting like a douche he'd be in the UFC.

He's got that kind of unlikable, awkward, uncharasmatic arrogance that keeps the bulk of the fans from demanding that he be signed. His buddies campaigning for him on the Internet isn't going to cut it.
