News Bellator is dead; PFL drops points season format

The easiest route is just current champions vs 2024 tournament winners. No reason to do anything besides that unless there's more compelling match-ups. Kuramagomedov vs Musaev or Larkin, Anderson vs Yagshimuradov II, Nurmagomedov/Hughes vs Rabadanov, etc. All interesting fights they can do in Abu Dhabi.

They'll probably do Johnny Eblen vs Aaron Jeffrey for the Middleweight title. Mix vs Higo gets booked again. Not even that many contenders in both of those divisions right now.

Ngannou will probably stick to being a special attraction type. He has the Super Fights title while Bader and Goltsov go at it for the PFL title. Unification later this year. At least that's how I look at it.

Larkin I think Bellator released, Shamil/Kuramagomedov would be a really good one and if Pitbull fights again for them vs Timur thats a good one though if Pitbull really is done with his contract by May he might just sit to go to UFC, we'll see.

Francis is said to only have one more fight on his contract so who knows what happens there and is that even something anyone is even remotely interested in, him vs Bader/Goltsov winner? But I agree doing last seasons winners vs current Bellator champs and then just throwing in BW/MW reg title fights is the way to crown PFL champs. FW would be the one thing with Pitbull wanting out and Pico being free agent, can they get either one of them to return to fight Timur for FW title.

I could easily see Larkin resigning if he's promised a title shot. I don't think the other leagues would offer him more than PFL.
Scenario: While Musaev recovers from the brutal old PFL schedule, they do Kuramagomedov vs Larkin Q1 this year as they both haven't fought in a good minute. Larkin is still a name and would get a nostalgia pop in rating for the hardcores. Winner gets Musaev later in the year.

I really don't see Pitbull taking the risk with the PFL and fighting before May. From the looks of it, he's mentally done with PFLator. He'll be stripped of the title and they'll attempt to do Pico vs Timur if they can resign Pico.

Good they needed this.

Now Don needs to get his house in order. PFL needs a fighter summit so bad right now. Do it on zoom and lay out PFL's plans for the year and moving forward. Answer questions from fighters and their management. Sounds like they really need someone to take over/step up as talent relations guy. Fighters should not be finding all this info out basically from Ariel.

Bjorn era Bellator was incredible. Take eight relatively unknown, but highly skilled fighters, and let them fight it out.

The only thing I can really say negative was the non-title fights. Also, Emanuel Newton was somehow the most unlikable champion of all time, despite giving us one of the best KO's in history against Mo.

So many great memories of great fights. Curran's epic comeback against Straus. Pitbull's wild comeback against Weichel. Frodo going to absolute war against Richman. Warren's robbery against Galvao.

Imada reverse triangle on Masvidal

I'm just surprised it took that long. Bellator was aggressively mediocre. As far as homegrown stars who were marketable in the US, they had Michael Chandler and that's about it. Second rate all the way with maybe ten events in their entire history that bear watching, and most of those happened in the first five years.

A quick shout-out to some of those:
Bellator 85 (Chandler vs Hawn)
Bellator 90 (some idiot wearing a Barney the Dinosaur mask got knocked out in the undercard)
Any event where King Mo got slept
Most events Fedor was on

PFL... meh. I've seen a few events, nothing that thrilled me. More respectable than Bellator but that's not a high bar. Doesn't sound like they're going to last much long either.
