Bellator 106 Does 1.1 Mill Average, 1.4 Mill Peak

Yeah this was a rarity for them. We'll see if they transfer over to this Friday's cards without title fights. I'm going to guesstimate it wont but stranger things have happened before.

Also numbers seem to suggest that the Mo vs Newton fight pretty much pooped on the main event, given the peak happened DURING that fight.

Yeah. that just sucks, but I gotta admit after Riggs/Bronzoulis and Curran/Strauss, then Mo/Newton... I was finding it a bit difficult to stay awake as well.

I had to get up and go outside in the cold a few times between rounds of the Mo fight just to keep myself awake.

Although Bellator knew when they booked 3 titles fights for the same card that pacing could be a serious issue.

I'm guessing that is because the pacing of the event was so slow... and the 3 fights before it weren't exactly exciting. Although I would think anyone who tuned in would want to watch the headliner.

I was expecting the numbers to come in about where they did but was hoping more MMA fans would wanna see this card especially since it was free.

I'm guessing some DVR's stopped recording and turned to some other recording at 12 right as the main even started. That's what happens, even if the TV is off, the cable box is on to record, and if the recording ends at 12 and there is something else recording at that time the cable box will change channels automatically. TOO MANY COMMERCIALS SPIKE., MADE IT RUN TOO LONG.

It'd have certainly done more. 1.1 stems directly from promotion and multiple title fights. I think 100 wasn't as weak as other cards have been recently and could have done better with proper promoting.

With cards occurring weekly I'm not Bellator is given the advertising budget to really promote every card like it did this one.

Those are good numbers. The biggest thing that sticks out to me is that they promoted a "bigger" show and it actually did bigger numbers. I feel like it used to be hard to guess what any of the cards would do (remember the hyped Aoki-Alvarez match doing some of the worst MTV2 numbers they did? or the summer series doing bad despite having MO plus Chandler/Askren?) and their viewership was all over the place. I am not saying they are PPV ready or anything, but this at least shows they can hype up a larger show and it does above regular numbers.

Once they get to 2 million, they can CONSIDER a ppv. But not now. I know they want that jack, but it's not there. UFC cards are too good and too many.

Yeah... DirecTv lets you add an extension when DVRing a live program. I added an hour extension... thank goodness or it would not have recorded the entire card. Although I watched the whole card live so it really didn't matter (except I wouldn't have been able to rewatch the main event), I can see how it might have caused problems for others.

On a side note... are you telling me you didn't enjoy all those great Ryse ads? What about the Rampage Reebok ad? I mean I really enjoyed seeing the same ad 60 times during 1 fight card.

thats the thing, their format/schedule doesnt allow them to do this often.

You put a big event, good card on a Sat with no UFC competition and spend 2 months promoting it, spending 3-4 weeks really pushing it then fans will watch it.

They just cant do that with reg normal every Friday tournament cards.

This felt like an event, almost how the UFC free cards get pushed but the PPV get really pushed for a month or more. Thats what this show was like.

Maybe this shows they should change formats, instead of weekly tournaments fights do reg matchmaking, spread the cards out more, spend more time promoting and they can do good numbers.

Or if they dont want to do get rid of the tournaments maybe get rid of the summer ones. Do the fall/spring tournament but instead of summer make that a big blockbuster free event.

I had to do that for all the WEC cards. Made that mistake once never again lol.

Yeah I typically only add 1/2 hour extension but I had a feeling this show would go a lil longer than most.

I add atleast an hour to every live card just in case. Its better to be safe than sorry, who cares if you end up recording 45 minutes of the next show.

Well I guess if you save all the events on your DVR it takes up more space the more time is on the recording but me I watch live and record events to rewatch a great fight or if I missed something. Then I delete it after.

But any live UFC or Bellator or WSOF I will always go an hour over just to be safe.

It's kinda funny, I projected between 400k and 1.8 mil (:)) and it landed right smack dab in the middle of that. The good news is it shows that their promotion (they were on ESPN, TBS, etc.) can work to an extent as well as they can sell Bellator originals. Hopefully they learn and stick to creating and marketing more, although I'm not holding my breath. People often have excused Viator's vast shift in philosophy due to the explanation that Zuffa names sell, so that's why Bellator are putting them at the forefront now for the most part, but that's just a cop out. You can make your own standouts. You just have to feature them continually in entertaining, competitive matches, and market them properly. Zuffa didn't need anyone else's help.

We don't know how the Chandler-Alvarez fight did in the ratings since it didn't happen during the 3-hour scheduled period for Bellator. It happened during World's Wildest Police Chases, or whatever it was called. That was basically all Chandler-Alvarez in actuality, if it was a half hour program. So it'll be interesting when the entire Saturday night cable tv ratings top 100 comes out, because that's where we may find out it truly peaked, and what the event in entirety did. I'm sure there were plenty of people who only planned to tune in for Chandler-Alvarez, and they picked up more viewers along the way from it being entertaining.

Yeah. My kids have filled the DVR with Phineas and Ferb and the like, so I try to my MMA DVR space to a minimum. Daggone Kids.

Plus I've been known to keep certain events on the DVR for quite a long time. But yeah, an hour is probably the best idea just to cover your a$$.

Now the real fun begins, can Rampage out draw them by himself?

Good numbers. Alvarez vs Chandler 3 will do even more!

Yeah I typically only add 1/2 hour extension but I had a feeling this show would go a lil longer than most.

Unfortunately I thought my normal recording settings would apply from past Bellator events, but my DVR didn't categorize it as in the same group, so mine ended right on time, and I lost the entire Chandler-Alvarez fight. And to make matters worse, I was was watching only semi live at the time, several minutes behind, and then my DVR forcibly jumped to live tv to allow other recordings to work or some shit, so I ended up missing almost the entire, pivotal, 4th round. It largely spoiled the fight for me. The lesson is, use the DVR at your own risk. If a show is important to you, you gotta watch it live, or else.

I would not have bought the PPV, but since free yeah I watched just like all their other cards. I dont think Rampage/Beltran will get this many views and I dont think Bellator should ever do a PPV and should not do fightmaster again.

Fight is online and its being replayed before this FRidays cards which is smart. If I were Bellator I'd replay it after TNA on Thurs and on Friday at 7 right before the next card begins.

not bad. i was pissed because i dvr'd it and i chose to record it for 30 extra minutes and i still misssed the 5th round of alvarez/chandler
