Before Jon Jones, what was the worst example of a heavyweight champion avoiding a top contender?

It straight up was better, Kharitonov would have dusted JDS but lost to Cain. HW Cormier was a monster, Ubereem was Ubereem and Werdum ended up winning the UFC title.
Kharitonov could barely be top 10 in his own era but please tell us more.

DC literally tried to fight a retired Brock over Stipe

What the fuck are you talking about
Jon actually did fight a retired stipe over an interim champion. Then after his stat pad gimme fight, he’s still refusing the interim champ.

DC would have fought Tom if he was in Jon’s shoes

DC was literally stripped of his title for refusing to fight Jones. I'm once again asking what bizzaro world you guys think you live in.

Unsurprisingly this shit always happens with DC glazers given his record of being #2 and the insecurities that come from that.

It was literally Ngannou ducking Lewis. Big Frank beat Stipe in March and said in his post fight speech he wanted Jones in June. Jones wasn't available but Black Beast was and he was the #1 contender. Ngannou turned it down. They tried to set it up for July but Ngannou ducked again. They offered him the fight for August but once again Big Frank ducked. He was absolutely terrified after seeing Lewis knock out Blaydes with a single punch, something he himself couldn't do despite fighting Blaydes twice. Ngannou straight up ducked Derrick Lewis and thats a fact.

One of the worst UFC fights of all time.

The real bizarro world is jones fans making a million excuses to defend ducking. When was DC stripped? And if that was the case which it’s not, why wasn’t Jon? The mental gymnastics it takes to hold two opposing opinions and such a blatant double standard is unbelievable.

Not a DC fan, just stating the obvious. This is totally uncharted territory and will set a scary precedent for the future if it’s allowed to continue. Never before could champs duck anyone let alone interim champs.

DC dropped the title to move up to HW after Cain left. DC was always a HW.

Francis Ngannou literally QUIT the UFC and fled instead of fighting Jones.

Offered the most ever at HW

He said he wanted health insurance.

That has the biggest avoidance ever.

Jones hid from Ngannou until he left. 3 years he hid.

Ngannou made more money from 2 boxing matches then Jones made in his career.

Probably Bisping ducking the entire middle weight. Top 15 to Fight a 50 year year-old man and a retired welterweight..

I recall the amount of "duck" slinging that went on to GSP not stepping up to Anderson.

I don't know why I thought Jones' fans were illiterate fucks, incapable of perceiving reality, but I've been set straight. Thank you

Wasn't this the guy who defended Fabia during that whole saga?

I could be wrong but he definitely had some other super bizarre and retarded white-knighting before

This crap didn't really happen in the past because they were all paid peanuts compared today. Additionally since McMidget showed up fighters feel like they have more control, not sure that is a completely bad thing though.

If I was Jon I wouldn't fight Tom for less than 3mil. He beats him people will say Tom wasn't that good and Jon should have fought Francis. If Tom wins people will say Jon is nothing and not the GOAT. What's in it for him?

LOL

He asked for 30 mill.

Then said nah bro.

Randy fought Brock over Nog

That wasn't ducking, that was weird timing and scheduling. Leaving aside the fact that Randy did end up fighting Nog, Randy had been sitting out trying to force Dana's hand to get him Fedor - the opposite of ducking, Randy only wanted the GOAT - meanwhile Nog became interim champ and then coached TUF against Frank Mir with a fight set for the end of the season. Once Randy came back and Nog/Mir was already on the books, they put Brock in the mix. Very similar to the weird multi-fight mini-tournament between Bas Rutten, Tsuyoshi Kosaka, Mark Coleman, Pedro Rizzo, Kevin Randleman, and Maurice Smith back in the day...which funny enough was also the result of Randy fighting over his contract while champ, except back then when Randy came back he won.

All of which is to say that there was no ducking involved in that situation.

Fedor ducking Overeem

GSP ducking Anderson Silva as honorable mention

Fedor never ducked Overeem and you can't give the smaller guy shit for not fighting a bigger guy. GSP either wanted Anderson to come to him or to have time to become a proper MW. Too bad that fight didn't happen, because I think GSP would've done to Anderson what Chael did minus getting submitted at the buzzer.

The same Fedor that beat former UFC champs Nog, Mir, Sylvia, Arlovski, Coleman, Randleman, Rampage and fought in the best HW division (PrideFC) and later for Strikeforce when their HW division was arguably better than UFC at that time?

He faced them post UFC

and in Strikeforce he was getting destroyed by literally a MW 40 year old Dan Henderson

The Rampage fight was a work.

How can Jones have "HID" from Francis for 3 years, if Francis was champion for less than 150 days and foremost QUIT when offered the highest pay ever to fight Jones?

Francis Ngannou Turned Down Around $8 Million To Fight Jon Jones

Make it make sense.....

He faced them post UFC

So Fedor's opponents being post-UFC mitigates his accomplishments beating them but Fedor being post-PRIDE doesn't mitigate his opponents' accomplishments beating him? Fedor's prime was already behind him when he started collecting UFC HW champ scalps and took Rogers' head off. He was even further away from it by the time he finally started to lose.

After fighting Lewis instead of rematch in Stipe or Jones, DC tried to fight a retired Brock Lesnar.

Bingo. DC claimed he needed back surgery, then tried to fight Brock and took a squash match with Lewis before getting the surgery. Biggest duck in UFCHW history before now.

You must not have been around during that time huh

No, I was there before that. Pretty sure you weren't. The UFC wanted Tito to fight Ken Shamrock. That fight saved the UFC. If the UFC had Tito fight Chuck then the UFC would be gone. Dana used to say that. Tito expected to get paid more for saving the UFC. He held out for a close to a year for more money. How is that ducking?
