Bautista fight sets a bad precedent

The referees need to break up clinches and possibly penalize the fighters if nothing is happening. If you had two guys just staring at each other on the feet, the referees would get involved too. Don't know why being in a clinch make a difference. Hugging another man isn't an offensive move.

The refs and the judges are to blame. The refs for not breaking up the shit and realizing when a fighter is stalling doing NO DAMAGE.

And the refs for rewarding a guy who went 0/10 on takedowns. Doesn't going 0/10 on takedowns mean you are failing at getting the fight to the ground? That means you're not in control. The fuck are they rewarding this for?

As for Bautista, I never want to see him fight again.
But even if you get the fight to the ground and deal no damage like Merab it shouldnt count. Holding someone down is ANTI fighting if you’re not tryîng to sub or finish with strikes and should get a point deduction and NOT rewarded.

Don't get stalled out and there will be no problem.
Imagine you have a 10min 1 on 1 game vs prime Jordan and you can just hold the ball till the end and win if it stays scoreless. That’s what these fighters are doing, they AVOID fighting by stalling.

There’s not much you can do about someone holding you down, you have no room to do anything. Aldo defended all the takedowns and did damage as soon as they were broken up. The huggers/stallers should get point deduction and lose those fights, they had 0 intention to actually fight.

1. Terrible analogy
2. We've all seen plenty fighters that are on the bottom, get up from the bottom.

All the more reason that the UFC should become a mixed striking combat organisation only and ban grappling/wrestling since casuals who pay for PPVs and tickets find grappling/wrestling boring and only want striking in the UFC

The FOTN at UFC 307 was just a striking match only between Alex & Khalil for example

Striking only matches in the UFC excite the casual crowd, when the crowd shows the same excitement for grappling/wrestling matches like they do striking then it might change but all you hear is booing and jeers at live events whenever grappling/wrestling is involved

Don't lie, many grappling moments were cheered just as any KO finish, it's the stalling and fight avoidance that people hate.

UFC should matchmake as if Aldo won this fight, only way to make this right.
What’s funny is not only do I agree, but they literally did this to Marlon Moraes when he beat Aldo lol.

Wall and stall should not even be a thing. It wouldn't even exist as a tactic if the UFC used a ring or a Karate Combat style pit, instead of a cage. Nothing about it is natural to martial arts or combat sports.

It should be made fun of and belittled more than the butt scooting tactic in BJJ.

Here's another gem I forgot. "She's applying IMMENSE PRESSURE" from Rogan on Pena being in side control vs Pennington. Being laid on by someone your size does NOT HURT TO A FIGHTER

Side control is hardly even threatening. That's a rest position

Any analogy of stalling is the same. Holding someone to avoid getting punched and stalling in that way should never get rewarded. It’s a fight, if you don’t finish, the only other criteria should be damage done. Hugging, holding isn’t fighting. Specially in this case where Aldo stuffed 10/10 takedowns and dealt waaay more damage. The fact that he got held against the fence just reinforces the point that he won the FIGHT. If not, Bautista wouldnt need to hold him, he just needed to stall bc he was getting destroyed on the feet and couldnt take him down.

It's a fight... with rules.

Considering Jose Aldo has been fighting under these rules for most of his 20 year pro career, you'd think he'd have an answer for being stalled on by now. But nope...

Damage shouldn't be a criteria because you can't accurately quantify it.

The decision should be appealed and reversed. The judges blatantly went against what the rules of scoring say.

Sure he had a good first round. After that, Aldo reminded him of who he was in the cage with. After Bautista had a taste of those hands (and a knee), he switched to his plan B, and panic-wrestled/wall and stalled until fight end. This isn’t just dishonourable behaviour from an elite level fighter, it’s ridiculous to reward such a performance with a 10-9, let alone enough 10-9’s to win the decision. Failed takedowns and stall tactics shouldn’t be enough to win a fight, and I feel the stalling was only allowed due to the ridiculous separations that one ref did in the early prelims. Aldo deserves better, so does the sport at the highest level.

I totally agree. Bautista was avoiding the fight. No one wants to see someone stall whole fight thats why I watch PFL over UFC more action.

if Aldo did it, you goofs would be creaming your pants at the genius levels of Aldo's fight IQ. Face it, Bautista did it, Aldo let him.

I think Bautista is getting way too much flack. Dude has 4 finishes in 9 fights he won. Much better % than the current champ Merab. Again Bautista won round 1. Round 2 was close, but with control time you have to give edge to Bautista. Round 3 was Aldo. Also like Bautista said, why is it all on him. How hard is it to get off the fence? If your Aldo, is it risky because you might get taken down. Merabs win vs Aldo was stated as great strategic performance.

Wall and stall as well as an overall increased focus on point fighting is probably the biggest issue that the UFC is facing right now. No one wants to watch whatever it is Bautista thinks he was doing the other night. Embarrassing performance.

The fight was really bad. The decision could've gone either way imo; I really need to watch again, but I'd probably go Aldo (more damage).

I hate wall and stall and lay and pray (the real kind) and think they need to score it differently but what is up with you guys calling it dishonorable?

Cheating is dishonorable, deceiving your opponent by going for a hug or glove touch and then attacking them is dishonorable.

Not using a viable and legal tactic to win a fight.

We love Aldo, but he knows that this shit gets rewarded by the judges, he needed to do something about it. Bautista is trying to win and earn a living.

Bautista is trying to win and earn a living, yes. Unfortunately for him, simply winning will not get you to the top of the mountain in the UFC as we are all aware of. Cash wise it isnt exactly the best approach either. There are people who lost and still earned more through bonuses and appeal than some consistent winners who used boring as f tactics to win. People simply dont wanna pay to see dull fighters. Its a reality. It might not be fair, but it is what it is.
