BATMAN V SUPERMAN Thread v.12

I'm not typically the type of person to nitpick every little plot hole in a movie, but I spent so much of the movie thinking why is this happening, why would that person do that, why is this person reacting in this way to this event? It was so drawn out and boring and filled with people doing and saying things that made no sense:

1. Why would the bat brand encourage criminals to kill other criminals?

2. Why is Bruce so completely sure Superman is a threat, when he's the aggressive one the whole movie and supes is usually trying to be diplomatic

3.Why would Supes refer to his mother as Martha, other than it serves the plot?

4. Why is Supes so pissed that Batman is a vigilante taking the law into his own hands, when he's doing the exact same thing with the exact same methods on a global scale?

5. Why would Lois Lane throw away the kryptonite lance and then go back for it?

6. It's hinted that Luthor is keeping the old photo of WW to use as leverage, but there's no interaction between the two of them. Why?

7. WTF is going on during the Flash scene? (After the movie I understood it was eluding to an alternate timeline, but the movie gives zero explanation of wtf is happening.)

8. Why so many dream sequences?

9. Why did they show an elaborate action sequence of Batman trying to get the kryptonite, then skip the actual scene where he gets the kryptonite?

10. Why did Batman and Superman become best friends as soon as he discovered their moms had the same name?

11. Why was Luthor given unlimited unsupervised access to the alien ship, and why were there suddenly no hazmat suit government people there as soon as it was necessary for him to be there alone?

12. If the ship could sense he wasn't kryptonian, why did it take his orders and completely disregard kryptonian laws and failsafes in place, merely because he said to?

13. If Batman was so pissed about collateral damage, why did he deliberately lead Doomsday from a deserted island to a populated area, just because the plot device weapon was there?

14. Why did Amy Adams look so haggard?

15. This version of Batman has no issue killing thugs, but doesn't kill Luthor at the end even though he easily reaches him in prison.

WHHHYYYYYYYYYYY. Why.
Wow I can actually respond to each of your questions with an answer but I think it would be a waste. It's clear you have some comprehension issues. Were you high when you watched the movie?

If he was high he would have enjoyed the movie

Now I'm regretting not smoking up before I went to the theatre

It's pretty annoying that people are reacting to valid criticism by suggesting I'm stupid.

There's a difference between saying I didn't understand what was going on, and saying plot points and character motivations were poorly explained.

He's in the minority the actually liked this movie. Maybe he's the dumb one.

I know I'm not talking to a bunch of four year olds, so I fail to see how criticizing a plot that is all over the place and characterizations that don't make sense is being confused with me not getting the movie. Yes I get what the movie was trying to do, but everyone acted extremely retarded and no logical explanation was given for many plot points.

I mean if people liked the movie cool fair enough, but honestly nobody should be surprised that people are criticizing the plot. It was really, really, really, really dumb.

First Avenger was good. Thor was fun, and introduced Loki. Age of Ultron was a misfire, but only compared to the OG Avengers.

IM 2 and 3 were major disappointment compared to Iron Man.

As for Marvel being predictable, is DC really any better? You knew that after throwing hands, Batman and Superman were going to team up. Hell, they gave away most of the major plot points in the damn trailer.

Also, Marvel now use their characters to tell stories in different genres.

First Avenger = War Film.

Winter Soldier = Spy Thriller.

GoTG = Space Opera.

Avengers = Alien Invasion

Age of Ultron = Mad Scientist

Ant Man = Crime Thriller

Marvel's films feel vanilla. They're action comedies and some of them are good movies. I am not going to argue with you about which films are good and which are not, since that's subjective. However, whether you try to spin them as war films or spy thrillers or space operas, at the end of the day they're family friendly action comedies.

DC surprised me in many ways. They gave me something I didn't expect. For example In Man of Steel, I was not expecting Superman to murder Zod. That was a big WTF moment. They could have gone the Marvel route and simply sent Zod back to his prison dimension but they handled it like an adult's movie. Some ppl didn't like it, but I appreciated that they had the balls to do it and in the context of the movie it worked. In BvS, they stayed consistent with their vision and carried the same tone from Man of Steel. I loved the fact that they kept their dream sequences ambiguous and treated me as an adult and piece things together myself rather than spelling everything out for me (like Marvel tends to do). I loved the allusions to the Injustice storyline and Flashpoint. I am not a big DC guy, infact I've always enjoyed the Marvel universe more, but I am really liking what DC is doing. Unfortunately, they did pussy out a little by showing Superman was still alive. I'd prefer they kept him dead till the next film at least. The studio's push to use BvS as a launching ramp for JL definitely also hurt it.

It's not like Marvel hasn't had its moments. But most of the time Marvel films are popcorn flicks, by which I mean they're about as interesting as the popcorn I am having while I watch them.

WHHHYYYYYYYYYYY. Why.
1. Best guess is because criminals in Gotham would see that as a sign of weakness. Letting Batman brand you, making you his bitch. Criminals are mad fucked up, yo.

2. Batman is batshit insane. He viewes Superman as a walking threat, he thinks that at any moment Superman could just snap and throw the entire planet into a black hole...or rule over us with an Iron fist. Having to deal with crazy motherfuckers in Gotham for 20 years he developed an zero tolerance policy for threats and potential threats. Kinda hyporictical of him, but we're talking about a guy that dresses up as a humanoid bat and beats the life out of criminals.

3. I...I don't know. He gave his one last try to reason with a maniac?

4. Yes, but see here's the thing. Even in Man of Steel he turned himself into and tried to take some responsibility for his actions. In BvS he goes in fron of a senate hearing even though he doesn't have to do a damn thing. I think that's the problem. Superman doesn't consider himself above the law, while Batman does think of himself as being above the law.

5. Well...she threw it away because she didn't want it anywhere near Superman...why she went after it...I don't know. 12 year old fan boys wrote the script.

6. I think he was just keeping tabs on everyone. I think he's plan wasn't blackmail as much as control and manipulation. That would go in line with why he created Doomsday. He's a wacky scientist.

7. The best explenation I heard was that the alternate future timeline was colapsing and Bruce was given those memories...somehow. If I remember correctly something like that happend in Terminator:Genisys. So it's not like Snyder pulled it out his ass. My explenation for the flash scene is that it actually happend to Bruce, he didn't dream it. I'd guess Flash somehow knocked him out with Speedforce shenanigans and the experience was so fucking weird and out of nowhere for Bruce that he thought it was a dream.

8. I have no idea.

9. Yeah, that also pissed me off.I'm hoping that the extended directors cut has Batman breaking into LexCorp scene. I guess that scene served as a plot point where Batman and Superman meet for the first time.

10. Because the movie is 2 and a half hours long and they had to be friends by the end so they can set up the JL. I guess that made Batman see Superman's humane side and see him not so much as a threat but as a powerfull being who's trying to fit in.

11. He was given full acces to the Kryptonian ship by that Government guy and Lex entered an area which could be reached only by Zod's(or some other Kryptonian's) fingerprints. Remember him scalping Zod's fingerprints with tha Kryptonite knife? That's why he did. Maybe he entered when everyone else left, I dunno. I would have to rewatch the movie to give a better reasoning.

12. He entered with Zod's fingerprints. I'm not sure that Kryptonian Ai has any safety messures installed against non-Kryptonian folk.

13. He took him to Gotham's industrial zone. Again, would have to rewatch to give a better anwser but I remember Batman saying that he's going to take him away from a populated area. Or something like that.

14. WTF u talkin' 'bout? She was mad fine.

15. Because he isn't The Punisher. The goal was to threaten Lex and scare him. What I don't understand is why didn't he hit him with his Bat-brand?B

Should there be [spoilers] in the titles of these? Maybe I'm the idiot for opening the thread, but I wanted to see whatever post it is that has the big box office drop - I gave up looking for it when I mostly ruined the movie for myself within 20 seconds. Granted, I hear it sucks anyway...

Well as you've already said, everything is subjective. I personally think that Winter Soldier was every bit as dark and, "grown up" as anything DC has done.

I don't mind DC being dark. I enjoyed Man of Steel and had no problem with Superman snapping Zod's neck. It made perfect sense within the story. Superman will avoid killing if at all possible, but if there is no other option, he will take life.

My problem with DC isn't that they try to be more grown up than Marvel. It's that they often come over as pretentious and bloated. TDKR was a steaming pile of dog-shit. Superman Returns was even worse. I'll reserve final judgement on BvS until I see it, but going by the reviews, it looks like I called it way back when details of the plot first emerged: DC are trying to do in one film what Marvel did over the course of four. They are rushing things, cramming as much stuff as possible into a movie they know couldn't really fail. Rather than having the patience and faith in their brand to grow the Justice League organically over the course of several films.

You state that you like the fact that DC treats you like an adult rather than give you vanilla films like Marvel. But DC are re-shooting Suicide Squad to add jokes. In other words, they are trying to lighten the tone and turn it into a Marvel-style film. They should have grown some balls and made Suicide Squad an R Rated movie from the outset.

first of all let me say this again, that re shoot to add joke is a rumour, that has not been confirm by anyone.

TDKR was praised by critics from rotten tomatoes, IMBD and many other critics, again i realize its your opinion, but its a minority opinion.

i agree with the second last part, they are rushing it, but i think they still produce a solid movie.

if you have not see it, go and see it, i think you will enjoy it.

most people here think so as well, most of the vote goes to 6 - 10.

The Dark Knight Rises was the weakest of the three Nolan films. Obviously it suffered in comparison to DK, which remains, arguably, the finest comic book film ever made. But it was undeniably shit on it's own terms.

- When the plot holes are so big you can't ignore them even in a comic book movie, you know there's a problem.

- Bane is supposed to be the anti-Batman; the perfect criminal to the Dark Knight's ultimate vigilante. A mental and physical Peak Human. In TDKR, he's a fat, man-boobed loser buried so deep in the Friend Zone that Ser Jorah would pity him.

- Batman is supposed to both the World's Greatest Detective and one of the deadliest hand to hand fighters in the DC universe. In TDKR he allows himself to be set up by Catwoman and is only able to deduce that Talia is Ra's daughter when she sticks a knife in his guts. And his mastery of the martial arts appears to be limited to throwing sloppy haymakers. Fortunately for Bats, the League was obviously trained at the same academy as Imperial Stormtroopers...

Marvel really upped it's action choreography with Winter Soldier. It was a good film and I really enjoyed it. It wasn't nearly as dark as Man of Steel, because it never quite communicated the stakes as well as Man of Steel did, but honestly I didn't care. Every film doesn't need to be dark to be good. It was a great ride, the ending was predictable and boring, but the journey there was great. Overall Winter Soldier gave me the same amount of enjoyment as DC's films, albeit for different reasons.

I agree that TDKR is a steaming pile of dogshit diarrhoea once swallowed and then vomited out of a mouth of a fat lady. If you can't already tell, I hated that movie. BB and TDK are both awesome, and I have seen both multiple times.

However, I consider the Nolanverse separate from DC's cinematic universe, and I am not really taking them into consideration when I am making my arguments. DCverse for the moment is Man of Steel, BvS and soon the Suicide Squad.

Also the Suicide Squad reshoots are not to add more gags, but to film action sequences. The movie already has plenty of gags, which was apparent from the trailer. I hope the movie doesn't go the family friendly route and are willing to do whatever it takes to tell the story right. I just saw the animated movie Batman return to Arkham which was a Suicide Squad story, and there are plenty of funny quips in there. However, it's not particularly a family friendly film, the way Marvel would make it. A film can be funny and still deal with adult themes and emotions. That's what I am hoping for from Suicide Squad.

I just hope the cry baby BvS critics don't ruin the future DC films that are still in the preproduction stage, by influencing the studio to push for a more Marvel-esque formula. We already have one Marvel, let DC do it's own damn thing, goddamnit !

1. I think using comic book logic, the plot holes are not that much.

2. they have to changed the character so that it can be Batman worse enemy, it was not Bane from comic book, it was as if they created a whole new character.

3. they already explained that by Bruce's injury and years of not doing anything.

I agree that the fight scene was a little bit off.

The movie was great and was well worth the ticket price...idont know what people expected from a movie with heroes who wear capes and fight monsters. I heard about the bad reviews and that negativity automatically makes people more prone to dislike the movie. I actually enjoyed the whole movie and found it to be better than the last batman plus superman movies that have come out.

I honestly think in general people take movies, especially action/fantasy-type movies way too seriously. It's like how some people complained about how basic Avatar's storyline was when it came out, and I just think to myself, "Wait...so you went to this beautiful, IMAX 3-D, visual masterpiece of a movie about 10 ft tall, blue cat people, but you're disappointed because of the lack of depth in the story???"

I also believe that a lot of people don't think as independently as they think they do. I'm not saying BvS was great, but as a superhero movie, it was better than most IMO (of the recent ones I've seen, it's way better than Iron-Man 3 and Age of Ultron). But if critics say it was bad, then it's almost like even if only by a fraction, it taints someone's opinion towards them not liking it. That's why I don't watch multiple trailers and don't read reviews until after I watch a movie.

- I'm pretty sure the news anchor explained this in the scene showing the guy get arrested, but it was because they prisoners knew that ring of guys was a part of sex trafficking. (This is a guess -->) To add to that, I feel like Wayne hasn't been Batman for the entirety of time, and just put the cape back on at some point recently (maybe when Superman appeared?), so it wasn't like he had been branding people for years, but more of a recent occurrence.

2. Why is Bruce so completely sure Superman is a threat, when he's the aggressive one the whole movie and supes is usually trying to be diplomatic

- It's his potential that's the threat. Like whenever a country achieves the ability to make nuclear weapons, even if they are cool now, you know that if the wrong person becomes their leader shit can hit the fan in a BIG way.

3.Why would Supes refer to his mother as Martha, other than it serves the plot?

- If he said "Mom" what's that mean to Batman? At least, if he gives him her name, he'll have something to go on while looking for her. (a guess)

4. Why is Supes so pissed that Batman is a vigilante taking the law into his own hands, when he's doing the exact same thing with the exact same methods on a global scale?

- Superman just saves people. That was what the African woman was essentially complaining about. He comes, saves who he wants (Lois), but does nothing about the bad guys who in turn still kill the people in the village

5. Why would Lois Lane throw away the kryptonite lance and then go back for it?

-It's the only thing that can kill the man she loves, but then learns it's the only thing that can possibly save him/them/the city/the planet. This one really shouldn't be that hard to comprehend, to be honest.

6. It's hinted that Luthor is keeping the old photo of WW to use as leverage, but there's no interaction between the two of them. Why?

-I don't know either. I think this is one of those situations were a movie/director get's so into building a series that he forgets that a lot of viewers only care about the here and now, so instead of explaining it in this movie, he thinks ahead and is probably planning to elaborate more in the next movie. I will say that's a bad choice.

7. WTF is going on during the Flash scene? (After the movie I understood it was eluding to an alternate timeline, but the movie gives zero explanation of wtf is happening.)

- Same reasoning as #6. Looking too far ahead, though I personally liked it.

8. Why so many dream sequences?

- ???

9. Why did they show an elaborate action sequence of Batman trying to get the kryptonite, then skip the actual scene where he gets the kryptonite?

- Yea, who knows. Probably to cut time or budget. If they had to choose one or the other, it's obviously better to keep the chase scene since it's more elaborate and it's the two protagonists first meeting.

10. Why did Batman and Superman become best friends as soon as he discovered their moms had the same name?

- That was kind of weird, but I guess it was the first time he saw him as "human" (having a mother he loves, and Lois, too.)

11. Why was Luthor given unlimited unsupervised access to the alien ship, and why were there suddenly no hazmat suit government people there as soon as it was necessary for him to be there alone?

Rich, powerful man that negotiated that privilege in the scene with some politician-type dude (he put candy in his mouth)

12. If the ship could sense he wasn't kryptonian, why did it take his orders and completely disregard kryptonian laws and failsafes in place, merely because he said to?

- "Where is the council?" "Dead (or something tho that effect)". No Kryptonians, nokryptonian law. Idk

13. If Batman was so pissed about collateral damage, why did he deliberately lead Doomsday from a deserted island to a populated area, just because the plot device weapon was there?

??

14. Why did Amy Adams look so haggard?

- Father time is undefeated.

15. This version of Batman has no issue killing thugs, but doesn't kill Luthor at the end even though he easily reaches him in prison.

- Killing vs. Murdering. He kills people that are trying to kill him, Luthor is imprisoned and no imminent threat, thus no need to kill him. I think most rational people in real life would have that same moral code.

WHHHYYYYYYYYYYY. Why.

It's pretty annoying that people are reacting to valid criticism by suggesting I'm stupid.

There's a difference between saying I didn't understand what was going on, and saying plot points and character motivations were poorly explained.

Just because something did not happened to You
it does not mean it did not happened to others

Well your questions are dumb to be fair. Like asking "Why is Supes so pissed that Batman is a vigilante taking the law into his own hands, when he's doing the exact same thing with the exact same methods on a global scale?" This was addressed numerous times!!! Superman felt he was going after only a certain type of criminal in Gotham. Clark spoke of it to Lawernce Fishburne and even seeks to stop batman via the Daily Planet articles under his disguise. Did you miss this???? That's why I asked if you were high because you weren't paying attention clearly.

Did you collect or read comics anytime in your life? Serious question.

I bet this sounded better in your head

Lol at comparing this to Iron Man 3. One of the worst comic films of all time. Way to set the bar high lmao.

Lol. Don't know if anybody else noticed it but Wade Wilson (Deadpool) wrote that newspaper clipping.
