BATMAN V SUPERMAN Thread v.12

The break-even point is really hard to judge, because it will vary wildly depending on how much of the production and advertising get covered by things outside the box-office haul (many of which you already mention: product placements, advertising partnerships, tax breaks, merchandising, home video, streaming, TV broadcasting, etc), not to mention advertising itself isn't included in the budget. The amount that the studio takes from ticket receipts will also vary; they usually make more off opening weekend sales than subsequent weeks and the amount they get internationally will vary (not to mention China is notoriously difficult to deal with, so despite being a huge market the studios can have trouble making money there). So, if you look at it like this:
Budget: $250mil
Advertising: $200mil (typically 50-150% of budget)
Opening Weekend Take: $132mil (somewhere around 60% of sales)
Full Run Take: $72mil (somewhere around 40% of sales, estimated $345mil domestic total)
International Take: $130mil (around 25% of sales, estimated 40/60 split for $518mil international total)
That leaves $116mil to be covered by other avenues. That's not an insurmountable amount, but if it weren't for costs being covered by things outside just tickets the movie would probably be a money loser (which is actually going to be true for most films).

I've read numerous places that BvS had a 420 million production budget, is that true?

the budget is 250 million, but that is not including marketing.

Ok, I see that on the boxofficemojo, but heard that it was actually closer to 420million (i.e. not inclusive marketing). Just wondering what was true.

Before BvS came out I thought the Red Hood was going to be one of the reasons why Superman had issues with Batman. I thought Red Hood was going to go around killing politicians/criminals/anyone else, but the media and everyone else would think it was Batman's doing. And in my mind Red Hood was doing it intentionally to make it look like it was Batman and make the people turn on him. Then after BvS resolves, in Batman's solo movie he goes to investigate what's been going on and that leads into a Red Hood movie.

I thought the note Bruce got saying, "You let your family die" was from the Red Hood.

Wish they would have gone this route.

There were so many ways I've read from fans about how they could have made the quarrel between Batman and Superman make a lot more sense. All of them have been better then what was actually done. That's not good.

They should have left out Wonderwoman and Doomsday. It was a ridiculous plot.
I loved Wonder Woman in it. She was so beautiful. Some folk were cheering when she made her debut as WW. Never liked her as a super hero, but would probably watch a solo WW now. Wish they showed her flying, though.

*Batman is about to kill Superman after months of planning and preparation*

Superman: "Save Martha!"

Batman: "...what did you say?"

Superman: "Save Martha!"

*interrupted in his murder plot by Lois Fucking Lane*

Lois Fucking Lane: "That's his mum's name!"

Batman: "...for real? That's MY mom's name! It's all cool bro! Here, lemme help you up..."

To the best of my knowledge: precise budgets typically aren't published by the studios. There are exceptions, like when the Deadpool people were very open about exactly how much they had to work with, but if BvS did go so massively over-budget I don't know if we'd ever get official confirmation.

*Wonder Woman pops up to help against Luthor's monster thingie*

Superman: "Is she with you?"

Batman: "I thought she was with you?"

....motherfucker, you KNOW she's with you. You met multiple times, helped one another, and literally exchanged emails.

I honestly think JL should have jsut taken their time and built up their franchise like Marvel did. I think DC is behind enough that by the time the get to darkside it wont be close enough to Marvel for people to care. Plus people wont care if all the movies that lead up to that were great.

If JLA is coming out next year, Darkseid will probably hit the screens before Thanos.

Yep at the rate DC is going that's most likely what will happen. The issue is by the time that happen will anyone care anymore? If they continue to just rush these movies without giving people time to really invest in the characters no one will care. I'm interested to see how well the rest of the DC movies do. I suspect a huge drop off is coming. I know from here on out I have no plans of watching these movies. I'd rather just wait until they come out on bluray and download them and watch them at home that way I can at least smoke and watch the movie. The only exception to this will be if me and my girl want to go to the movies and that's the best thing playing. Which is a big possibility cause we like going to the movies a lot.

"You are not brave, men are brave"
"You were never a god, You are not even a man"
then with his possibly last breath, Sups begs the guy who is about to end him to save his HUMAN mother.
How do You kill a guy who You consider a "not a fricking human at all" after that?
and don't even try to tell me that you noticed that their moms share first name before.

Dumb haters/marvel huthuggers don't even know that Bats actually have a plan/strategy for how to kill every member of JL in case they go dark side. He does, just because he IS Bats.

Everyone has a right to their opinion and I give Bats v Sups 11 out of 10.

is spot on.

Except for vs part, its not versus movie, V is more like visiting. Bats visits metropolis to score some "green" and douche Sups breaks his wheels and tells him to Fuck Off. Would You not get pissed if that happened to You? lol

This isn't about being a Marvel nuthugger.

Fans who are passionate about Superman and Batman have been waiting for this film since they were kids.

I knew their moms shared the same name.

So what? For the World's Greatest Detective he sure did a shit job on researching Clark Kent/Superman's background.

And no, Bats didn't have a plan to kill the Justice League. He had plans to immobilize them non-lethally.

All the rumors are pointing at them waiting till part 2 to introduce darkseid

and Thanos has been on screen a few times in the marvel movies. Guardians of the galaxy and some post credits shit

I forgot about that. This is what I'm talking about this is what DC needs to be doing. Slowly introducing stuff not trying to rush this.

Agreed. I'll watch BvS and SS. If Affleck does a stand alone Batman movie I'll watch that. The rest of the DCU don't interest me.

I stand corrected a stand lone Batman movie might get me back in. Depends on the villian and overall how it looks. Hell if I'm being honest any of these movies could get me back in if they look good beforehand. The thing with BVS is it already looked bad before I watched it. None of the trailers looked good or interesting at all to me. I'm just to in love with all these super hero movies this has always been a dream of mine to see these stories play out on the big screen.

Pretty much. We were given reasons for the fight, but they weren't very good and relied on everyone acting like a moron.

Man, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and all that but these fan boys claiming this was one of the best superhero movies or that it deserved 11/10 are puzzling to me.

If you liked the climax and are willing to overlook the obvious flaws, that's fine, but seriously like the first half of the movie was boring as hell
