BATMAN V SUPERMAN Thread v.12

Agree with this somewhat. Winter Soldier was fairly dark; a neo-Nazi death cult infiltrating and corrupting the entire US Government and trying to kill millions of people. Hell, they even had The Redford killing some poor maid in cold blood because she walked in on him talking to Bucky.

Marvel's biggest problem is Can Villains. Apart from Loki, the only two memorable Big Bads have been Red Skull and Thanos. Skull hasn't been seen since First Avenger and they're saving Thanos for Infinity War.

I don't have high hopes for Baron Zemo, but I hope at least he isn't a joke like Strucker in AoU.

True, think you're right actually. Winter soldier did have a different tone to it to the other marvel movies.

Completely agree about the villains, they have been a massive disappointment. If they depowered Ultron I don't doubt they will do the same to Thanos. Hope I'm wrong though.

A Melissa McCarthy movie with almost no push at that. I literally saw a single commercial for this movie and like two copies of the poster despite plenty of time in the NYC subway seeing hundreds of posters

Even a Marvel Fan Boy like me finds this disappointing. BvS deserves better.:(

not really.

Mellisa Mcarthy is very underrated here, she was a star in movie such as The Heat, Spy and identity thief.

i doubt any other Marvel movie can beat her in the third weekend.

Finally got to see it and I have to say I'm shocked....

...by how much I enjoyed this movie.:)

Yes, it was far too long, bloated with forced references to a Shared Universe. Yes, the dialogue was George Lucas-level clunky at times. Yes, there were plot holes so big Doomsday - who looked like the unwanted result of a drunken, regretful hate fuck between an Ork and a Ninja Turtle - could have walked through them and not touched the sides. And yes, every time he opened his mouth, I wanted to set fire to Jesse Eisenberg's face. Then beat the flames out. With a baseball bat.

But when it was good, it was fucking awesome.

Affleck is not only the best thing about this movie, he's the best Batman to appear on screen. Full stop. Period. Affleck crushes it both as Wayne and Batman. This is the closest we'll ever get to seeing Miller's Dark Knight on screen; battle-scarred, war weary, cynical and brutal. The fight scenes rank among the best I've seen in any comic book movie. When Bat's punched the Russian scumbag's head straight into the floor, I had to stop myself from shouting, "Fuck, yeah!" The training montage showed that Affleck, always a big guy, went full TRT Beast Mode for this movie(No Homo...OK, maybe a little Homo...)

Purists may dislike the fact this Batman kills people, but I loved the shout out to both Miller's Dark Knight - "I believe you" - and the OG Batman, both of whom gave zero fucks about racking up a body count.

Gadot did a surprising amount with her very limited screen time. I freely admit I was not a fan of her casting, but she was fine in the role. Her, yeah I like it rough, big boy! sex face when fighting Doomsday was a particular high point.:D

Cavil was the weakest of the Big Three, but even a much better actor would have struggled with the script. The biggest flaw in this flim was making both Batman and Superman, "dark". We expect and want the Dark Knight to be a brooding, rage-filled psychotic bastard. And when it's done well, as it was here, he's too cool for school. What we don't want is an Emo, angst-ridden Superman. The two are supposed to be opposites. Hell, even Zuckerburg - sorry, Lex - gets it when he describes them as, "Day versus Night". By making their personalities too closely resemble one another, the lack of contrast works against the dramatic tension.

One final point: I've seen Amy Adams described on here as, "haggard". Seriously? I know she's looking at 40 from the wrong side, but I'd still hit her so hard, whoever managed to pull me off her would be crowned King of England. Dat bath tub scene...:)

TL/DR: an entertaining film. Flawed, but with moments of brilliance. I gave it an 8.
They should have just done a copy The Dark Knight returns Exactly...

Ben is perfect for the role. He looks almost like a real version of the Conroy batman as Bruce

The Heat got 65% from critics and Spy got a 94%. The Boss is at 18%.

critics usually don't affect movie box office in its first weekend.

people go to watch that movie because MM stardom.

Meh. If I want to laugh at a fat girl, there are, sadly, plenty of them waddling around my city. I don't need to pay to see it in the cinema.

Big fan of Fleckvoice.

looks like domestic for BvS will be lower than deadpool

I hadn't been paying attention to Deadpool's gross and didn't realize how huge it had gotten. I'd estimate Deadpool finishes it's run around $367mil ($359mil right now) while BvS looks like it's going to putter out around the $338mil mark ($304mil current). That's astounding to me. Who would have believed if this time last year you said Deadpool would outperform BvS by some $30mil?

I remember telling my friend I had more faith in Deadpool than BvS before they came out. He thought I was crazy.

There is a difference in having more faith of being a better movie, and having faith of it being a box office hit....
So did you specifically say it would make more money?

And when you factor in that Deadpool was a far cheaper movie to make then BvS, the margin is even wider.

Better movie... I wasn't crazy enough to predict Deadpool would make more domestically.

I can second that. I'm a Marvel girl first and foremost, but DC has some stuff I love too. BvS should have been more... And they shouldn't have blown their Doomsday wad so early. Should have made the whole movie about BvS and saved that for their third big movie or something. The death of Superman arc still makes my top 5 list for either Marvel or DC, and they've essentially wasted it already.
