When I was playing my Forest Gnome Ranger named Sicurdie all my animal companions would be scaring NPCs in towns and they would run away from me or I’d get attacked by guards, lol. Apparently before one of the patches any animal companion would make everyone afraid to even interact with you.
So I ended up just not using the animals anymore and just focused on becoming a gloomstalker instead on that build.
My first playthrough my party comp was ; Astarion , Karlach, Shart and me.
Romanced Shart
Durge playthrough I went ; half orc warlock eldritch blast for the win. Lol
Shart, Gale, La’zelle switched with Karlach.
Or switch Gale out for Wyll and just blasting people in cloak of daggers lol which Shart would be around then cast SG
I romanced Karlach in this one. Hilarious scenes and banter when she gets jealous of you hooking up with other people before shipping her and Tav yp
Eldrich Blast and Cloak of Daggers have helped me win spook many battles I've been out numbered in. That's one of the reasons I prefer Wyll to Gale. Plus, he's actually pretty decent in melee.
The balance I have with Karlach, Wyll, and Shadowheart is just so damn hard to break up.
Even without heavy armor, Karlach is just a freaking tank. I've set her up as my main two-handed weapon wielder. Currently rocking the kick-ass Halberd of Vengeance. Will switch out to the Moonlight glaive, Sword of Justice, Sussur Greatsword, Exterminator's Axe, or Ketheric's Warhammer depending on the situation. For range she has Titian's String bow.
Shadowheart does everything for me, heals, supports, and can whoop ass in melee. I've got her rocking the Blood of Lathander mace. For range she has the Darkfire Shortbow.
Wyll is crowd control. I was using the Sword of Screams rapier with him for the longest time, but switched to a staff about a quarter of the way through act 2. Currently I've got Cacophony on him, but was using the Incandescent Staff for quite a bit (free Fireball is always a plus). Range he has Bow of the Banshee for when I don't have, or don't want to waste spells.
Currently I'm the secondary melee person, or dedicated range threat depending on the fight. For melee I started mainly dual wield light weapons, then was using the Sussur Greatsword for a while, then went dual wielding various combinations, and currently sword and board with the Blade of Suppressed Soul's and the Sentinel Shield (I usually don't like using a shield, but I'm coming around). Range is my favorite though, especially after I became a duel wielder. Double hand crossbows for the mf'ing win. Ne'er Misser in one hand, Hellfire Hand Crossbow in the other. I have better choices for ranged weapons, but none more fun.
