Multiplat BALDUR'S GATE III

im at the last portion of the gauntlets of shar. dont know why, but i feel a need to go back to get the blood of lathander for shart to wield.
It’s still a good weapon in act 3 and one of the best for her for the whole game, but you kinda missed out not having it in act 2. Act 2 is where it’s straight up OP. You get that level 5 sunbeam spell at a time where you only have level 3 spells. But best of all it blinds all undead in a 6m radius, making some fights go from challenging to easy just like that.

I didn’t get it my first play through and it’s a big big difference in act 2. I’m late in act 3 and still using it but it feels like it’s just OK now

I use the blood of lathander with Shadowheart. She never really attacks melee but it's nice to have a free level 6 sunbeam for her.

This game is incredible but Act 2 and the order that quest need to be done really needs to have a bit more guidance for the player. I read some stuff online without spoiling it for myself so I was able to get it done correctly.

Even with that guide. When I finished act 2 I realized at the end before leaving that I messed up badly. The worst part is the character I needed to talk to was now dead so I couldn't do it. What's incredible was I read peoples complaints online and found someone who figured it out by using speak to dead on the NPC and then you can continue the quest like normal. The only issue is the other NPCs involved don't seem to know that Act 2 is finished based the the references they make but I was still glad I got to finish the quest at least. It's a pretty major quest for the area.

I was considering going back before the tower invasion just to get it done which would have been about 4 hours wasted. Thankfully I didn't have to and probably would have skipped it for another playthrough either way.

Artistry of War. Best spell in the game. Absolutely destroyed the first few bosses in act 3 with Gale.

Actually most of my tactics for a while have been protecting and positioning Gale until he's ready to unleash his strongest spells (with haste activated) on the strongest enemies/boss.

I know which quest you’re talking about. I agree that one is actually poorly designed. I feel like something was left out on accident. When they started talking about the little boy I was like..
<FookIsThatGuy>
I honestly don’t know where you were supposed to get any context for that one

I didn't even think about it but your right I have zero back story on the little boy. I just happened to run into him clearing the map. Usually I google random stuff like that when I can't figure out the point to it but I just didn't do it in this case. Maybe you're supposed to talk to the Druid again after reaching Act 2? I never did talk to him again after clearing Act 1.

I've been loving this game. I'm not going to read through most of the thread because I'm doing an almost blind playthrough. (I looked up stats on sussur and adamantine items to make sure I got the ones that would best fit my party. No story spoilers, though.)

I'm getting close to the end of act 1. It gave me the warning about moving the game forward, and I decided to go back and tie up loose ends before moving on. I'm really impressed with how well they designed around the very open nature of the game. I did some things in an abnormal order and they had dialogue specifically for that scenario. It was very cool, because it made it feel like the way I did things was just as the story was intended, even though it obviously isn't.

i killed the spider boss under blighted village and jumped into the green hole down to the underdark. From there, i stayed in the underdark and did the myconid questline and got stuck in the time sensitive quest to get Nere out of the tunnel. I hadn't been to the goblin camp yet or had my dream visitor explain what true souls are to me, so i had no clue wtf anyone was talking about when the duergar were all mad at me. Then i did the Nere fight at level 4. That took a few tries. After all that, i finally went to the goblin camp and met halsin. I was able to tell halsin about everything i had learned so far and he's like "if you already know all that, what good am i?" Lol. The githyanki, goblin village, and spectator were all really easy at level 5 after having struggled through the underdark at level 3 and 4. Now I'm going to go to the mountain pass to look for the creche before moving on to act 2. Level 6 now, so we'll see if the mountain pass stuff also feels undertuned.

Before starting my playthrough, I came up with a personality for my character and have been doing my best to stick to it. It has been hard not to save scum after a few of my dialogues lol.

Notably
i told the hobgoblin true soul to go run his own errand and instant aggroed the entire camp. I didn't even get to speak with minthara. It was combat on sight.
and then even worse
i watched shadowheart murder laezel. I really wanted to save scum that one because i had been using laezel as my only melee character in combat. I stuck it out, though, and am making due with karlach. Her personality is way more fun than laezel's, but i like fighter a lot more than barbarian. A respec may be in order.

Overall, great experience so far. I'm 30 hours on and still in act 1. Pretty wild. It's been a long time since I was 30% of the way through a game and thought, "yeah 50 more hours is fine".

Yea I've only ran into one instance where I did things out of order and the game didn't seem to know. Act 2 was great I think you're going to really enjoy it. I thought it was even better than Act 1. The ending is 10x better as well.

I'm in Act 3 but don't have much time to play and I'm in no rush. Apparently the next patch coming Thursday which is going to help with Act 3 performance apparently.

My opinion.
Karlach is a better than Laezel in every way except the armor she can use. The Barbaric Roars are great. And having her beat a motherfucker with another motherfucker will never get old.

I'm only level 6 and I haven't used Karlach much yet, so maybe my mind will be changed over time. So far, though, fighter offers better utility skills, better action economy, similar damage, and similar mobility. The only area barb seems to be winning out is a bigger health pool. I'm somewhat familiar with D&D 5E and the general opinion there on this subject pretty much matches my experience. BG3 is not an exact replica of 5E, so we'll see. Maybe barb will blossom later.

I might read some build guides or class comparisons to help me decide if I will respec Karlach.

Level 5 she gets 2 attacks per turn. I picked her up late and really like her fit with my team (me a ranger, Shadowheart, and Wyll). Her banter with Shadowheart is great.

Laezel did fine for me up to, and including the inner part of the goblin village (I aggroed the whole village by "accidentally" killing the priestess). I'll probably grab her for the Gyth part of act 1.

My brief forays into the Underdark, in 2 different places, has not gone well for me. At all lol.

Laezel was a big part of my success in the underdark. Knockback attack is great when there is lava around. Her psionic jump is good, because of the verticality of a lot of the encounters down there. Astarion killing fools in 1 shot with ranged sneak attacks helps, too.

Sheep polymorph seems to work very well too since it lands 75% of the time on boss monsters unlike flesh to stone failing on someone even like Neeber 95% of the time

I need to start using that one more. I also like Hold because then I just get free crits which I didn't realize early on.

All my big spells always seem to fail on the bosses for me. It pisses me off because I always save them up for big fights and then poof there goes my level 6 disintegrate spell …

Yeah this is my second playthrough and I still have no idea how you’re supposed to know who he is. I guess talking to the guy in the last light inn?

Hijestly that whole source of the curse doesn’t make in sense imo.

The only thing I can think is that maybe we are expected to read some book that is laying around. Maybe in the Inn itself. I did read some guy saying the books have a lot of info in them but I just brushed it off.

The books do have tons of stuff that help with alchemy, quest clues, and just some fun back story/world building.

Once you’re at the Last Light Inn talk to buddy in the bed, the Harpy beside should remark something bout Thaniel . Once that happens go back to camp and talk to Halsin if he accompanied you into act 2.

Halsin will want to talk to the guy in the bed. Halsin will then take off for L L I (last light) you’ll find him in the room now next the guy in the bed. Talk to Halsin and the dude in the bed. It will progress the quest to find Thaniel .

If I recall Thaniel is located like middle of the map and to the east. He’ll be by himself and ask if you want to play hide and seek. Hopefully you either have someone who can see invisibility or you have a potion. Thaniel will then go invisible and have you to find him while his “mommy and daddy” shadows are coming at you. Toggle on turn based and have one person go to the house behind you. That’s where Thaniel will show up. Turn off turn based and story should proceed.

Once Thaniel and you are done talking/playing go back to L L I talk to Halsin bout Thaniel and Halsin will go to him. A battle will happen . Thaniel will take you to a pocket dimension. focus on killing the shadows to break the shield around him and you’re pretty much done.
