Multiplat BALDUR'S GATE III

Wish Steam allowed a filter for user reviews based on time played in the game.

The problem with user reviews is SO MANY give reviews a few hours or less into a 70+ hour game.

With the volume of reviews its pretty accurate. Metacritic which traditionally rates games lower than Steam users do have it at 95% for critics and 9.3 for users. Its receiving universal praise pretty much by any site or standard you want to use. I can tell you i'm playing it right now and its incredible.

Well shit... Guess I figured with all the promotion for BG3 that it was a multi-platform release.

Apparently it'll be released on PS5 in a few months and on XBox as late as 2024... sometime....

<1>

...because the Series S optimization on the weaker hardware is being a bitch.

PS5 version is out in 29 days.

Yea, they said they couldn't get multiplayer working as well as they would like so that's the delay for consoles. How utterly refreshing that not only are there no in game purchases or pay to win but also they delay release when the shit is not ready. This is how companies like Blizzard and the original Bioware used to operate.

Oh its a huge improvement over the typical AAA-release strategy, but typically we gamers have an automatic expectation for simultaneous multi-platform release dates for well over 2 decades.

Its going to be very interesting to see how it performs across all three platforms. Will the XBox version version not sell as well since it'll be 'old news' by the time its release in 2024? Or will the anticipation over the months help drive the sales even higher than the PS5 version?

Time will tell.

Ugh. I was wanting to wait for the Xbox release since that’s my main console, but they’re saying it won’t release til next year now. Gonna likely pick this up on PS5 instead. I’m huge a CRPG/Larian fan (DOS2 is one of my favorite all-time games) and don’t think I wanna hold off another 6 months or so haha.

Larian didn't initially plan to release PC ahead of console. What happened was they decided they didn't want to compete with Starfield sales so they pushed PC up to a month before Starfield. I guess they could have pushed PC back like console but they obviously wanted to get to market ahead of Starfield, which appears to have paid off huge.

I played Divinity and Divinity 2, as well as Pillars of Eternity, etc. Baldur's Gate 3 is a superior game to any of them and I loved DOS2.

Oh I know it is. That’s why I don’t wanna wait it out for Xbox release. I’ve actually done well to not watch any video content on the game at all to not spoil anything.

Have you played Pathfinder:WOTR and Wasteland 3? You should add those to your list as well.

Not pathfinder but I loved Wasteland 3 and bought the DLC for it as well. I'll tell you another surprisingly good turn based game, it actually shocked me how much I liked it, Desperados 3.

Yea usually I think moving releases around to avoid games is dumb but it in this case it was a good move. This year has been insane for games and there are still other heavy hitters coming.

@MusterX

Haven't played through Pathfinder, but Wasteland 3 is so good I bought it on PS4 & Series X.

Been hesitant to ask how BG3 compares to Tactical-RPGs like Wasteland 3 & X-Com2.

I love both Wasteland 3 as well as the entire X-com franchise. If I had to tell you a sort of main take away when it comes to comparing BG3 to these other titles its that what makes BG3 incredible is the totality of what they have accomplished. BG3 has the turn based combat of those other titles but it adds in an incredible amount of care to things like amazing cutscenes, amazing story telling, amazing voice acting, its everything Wasteland 3 and X-com2 is, plus ADD MUCH MORE. It feels like a dungeons and dragons table-top adventure transformed into a video game. The breadth and depth of the game is surprising to say the least. Even the number of classes and sub-classes is almost overwhelming. I played a standard Fighter class in early access for a week before full release to see if I liked it and just rerolled Fighter on full release, the experience has been different despite rolling the same class and doing the same things.

Cliffs: This game is making other studios butt-hurt.

2023 has been one of the best years for games in a long time.

Thanks for the recommendation. Just bought it off eBay for $9 haha. Exact type of games I like and for some reason never heard of it.

I can’t recommend Pathfinder:WOTR enough. It definitely set the bar for CRPGs lately and now BG:3 just set it even higher.

If you bought Desperados 3, you won't be disappointed. It was recommended to me by a friend and I was shocked how good it was. Played it multiple playthroughs.

"This isn't the new standard for AAA-games!"

Actually, the fanbase will determine that.
Because in the upcoming years if new CRPG games are constantly compared to BG3 then it may be the 2020s Witcher 3 with consistently good sales numbers year-after-year to eventually become the 9th best selling game of all time.

The bar has just been raised.

Maaaaaan, level 12 isnt high enough. I dont want to wait for BG4 to get to level 20

I bought this on a whim without having played the first two games and am blown away by how immense this game is. Started the game as a rogue, but I'm gonna restart after hearing about the Dark Urge class.

My PC is handling it surprising well. Had to lower some settings like clouds and shadows, but it's trucking along.
