13 songs and a shout out to someone who is no longer with us

1. Cream - White Room - My boy Ed, came up with him through thick and thin, while the rest of us were listening to hip hop or house/techno etc he was listening and introduced me to Cream. Dude died homeless a couple years back, the definition of a troubled mind. Love you dude

2. Tchaikovsky - Piano Concerto No 1 b minor Op 23. The opening 'song' on a very memorable album for me. One Christmas my grandmother (who knew nothing about classical music) wanted to surprise yours truly (then a teenager who had taken a recent interest in classical music) and got me an album of the latest classical music - it was Hooked On Classics, basically a potpourri of the best known bits from all the great composers set in disco tempo with electronic handclaps and everything. Like, the utmost in blasphemy :D In the shop they'd told her it was just the thing for a young person! At the time i didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Now, so many years after grandmother's passing i do know. It's a little bit of both. <3

3. Guns & Roses - Welcome To The Jungle, i'd like to give a shout out to two young kids who I never met, but shared the same muddy part of land with me on that day, there but for the grace of god go I.

{whoever follows me please leave the link, thanks}

4. Elvis - Suspicious Minds - Reminds me of my uncle Jerry. True old school rock and roller with the slicked back hair and sideburns. Got me into those early rockers like Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran.

5. Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills - Growing up my older brother would practice bass and guitar to this song. I'm pretty sure it was his favorite song by the band. He took his life July 2010 and I obviously think of him still sitting in his room ripping it up every time I hear the song.

6. Eagles - I Can't Tell You Why - My Uncle would be taking my older brother and I to Church every Sunday. He was a huge bear of a man. He had an 8-track tape player in his Datsun pickup truck and he was always playing Eagles tunes. He took us under his wing after our dad cut out and was a man among men. I always loved this song.

7. The Stylistics - I Cant Give You Anything. Always used to be on at my dear old Nan’s house. Happy days

He was in a car accident and didn't survive his injuries. He was just 18 and I was 10 at the time... 29 years ago. That was a tough Christmas.

Back when I was on my 1st year in the university a girl named Alina from our group died in a car crash and somehow it affected me deeply even though we were not really close friends. The track is a beautiful and sad instrumental, I played it a lot after she died.
