awesome marcelo garcia interview!

i didn't have time to watch the whole thing before, did it now.

marcelo is just the sweetest person ever in jiujitsu. i mean how can anyone not like this guy?

and i find it amazing he's at such a high level of grappling and does absolutely no extra conditioning, outside of his bjj training. i mean i can't imagine pablo popovitch going a day without lifting something heavy, right? marcelo is just pure jiu jitsu, it's great.

My sound is not working. Can somebody please tell me why he does not play half guard?

he says he once lost a tournament final with someone being stuck in halfguard for most of the match and it fired him up to improve on it, but he sort of figured out that moving into x-guard and other options were more effective for him.

Great interview! Thanks! I especially liked the part about not showing your opponent when you're tired, and to push the pace when you see that they're tired.

he's one of the most enjoyable people I've ever spent time around. never without a smile, most humble and down to earth man. that's one of the parts I found extremely interesting. the fact that he does nothing but bjj and competes at the highest level is a testament to his love for the sport. the part where he's asked why he's so good and basically says that he doesn't think he is good is, in my opinion, how every jiu-jitsu practitioner should view themselves. he said the only reason for him becoming so good is the fact that he believes he loves bjj more than anyone on this planet. I don't doubt it and you're right; he embodies jiu-jitsu.

the highlight of my life is opening a door for him once a few summers back

Isit wrong of me, as a straight guy, to say that I love his smile?

he will be doing a seminar in NYC at the mma expo later in Dec

MGiA is probably a better investment than attending his seminars.

Haha everytime he smiles it's like my face just automatically starts smiling. Such an incredible guy and like JDS says "good things happen to good people", Marcelo is the prime example of that. I hope his amazing success continues forever.

I don't suppose there is a link to it on youtube? That site is blocked at work.

there isn't at the moment. it was too big to put into one vid, but matt is considering making it into a 3 part series.

The webpage seems to have disappeared, does anyone know if the interview can be found elsewhere?

Didn't see the interview, what about half-guard?

I know this is an older thread.
