Excuse me for the interruption but if you haven't yet, you guys should check out COUNTERPART. It's one, if not, the best drama airing on TV right now. Brilliant series.

That's all. Carry on.

Why are you spamming this thread with non-infinity war posts?

JK is the f'n man so I'm down to check it out.

Well i sort of agree that it will be harder and may be "too much" at some point tbut they don't need to do many mashups. Have X-Men , FF etc have a bunch of standalone movies each with their respective villains (Dr Doom , Magneto etc) while still be part of the same universe and then just do one movie where they all team up to take on Galactus. Have some cameos and references in other movies (IE : Prof Xavier has a small cameo in FF talking to Reed Richards or something like that) and slowly build up the Galactus threat in the background. Basically they can just do the same thing they did in phase 1-3 but with less interactions between each franchises. It can still work if done properly but the downside is that it may feel a little repetitive.
I don't think it's impossible, as far as from the film making side of it. If you have a guy like Feige in charge who has a plan, and is overlooking the whole set up, then it can most definitely work.

I think the logisitics is more of the issue.
I think it'll be much harder getting all the pieces together for future movies.
Aligning all of the actors, writers, crew, etc to do their own movies, and then do the mashup movies...I don't see how they get it all together. Big actors are attached to these movies. Look how deep the cast for this movie is.
I don't see how they'll be able to schedule in stuff when they want half of Hollywood all in one movie. These guys have other projects going on as well. Scheduling, staying in shape for their roles, their other parts...you pretty much have to BE Ironman, or whoever for the next 10 years. I don't see how this will be sustainable as the MCU expands
The Xmen is almost a universe in and of itself.

we have seen a lot of great movies these past centuries, great action flick, exhilarating adventure movies, drama movies with deep meaning and lots of hilarious comedy.

but a successful cinematic universe, i don't think that is ever been achieved before.

i can't wait to be part of this historic event.

Amen brother....amen

Jonah Jameson post infinity war?

Well I would argue the Tolkien movies and Star Wars movies represent Cinematic Universes.

To me a CU has to be more than just sequels or prequels. They have to create a universe or world where many tangential story lines and characters can exist but there is always that connection.
In theory, I get what you mean..but in practice, I don't believe there has been anything like what Marvel is doing.
The Tolkien and Star Wars movies are still bascially all sequels telling one story.
I think Star Wars is NOW heading towards being an actual CU with whatever Johnson plans on doing with his triology.
But, so far, it's been prequels and sequels of the same plotline, more or less. You can't really just jump in and watch The Two Towers or The Last Jedi

That would be cool. But I'd first like to see Avengers vs XMEN: Civil War Part II (featuring F4).

Anyone know a good MCU recap video leading up to infinity war?

This is for my father I plan on bringing with me to the movies.

Hes a casual super hero fan, thought I get him caught up.

Just make him watch all the ones he missed out: "be a real man, and watch 'em!"

This the first Marvel movie I'm properly HYPED for since Spider-Man: Homecoming and the first Iron Man. All more surprising that it's an Avengers movie, because I thought Age Of Ultron sucked.

Maybe we get to see Cap and Bucky vs Thanos here.

The Xmen is almost a universe in and of itself.
It all depends on how much a success this initiative ends up being.

if this 10+ year journey to Infinity War ends up making Avatar money and generating huge positive buzz for Marvel/Disney you can bet they will start building towards their next bigger and better culmination.

DisneyLand is transforming from simply the House of Mouse to the House of these Mega entertainment brands and Disney makes crazy money on that expanded universe of stuff (merchandize, games, park visits, etc) that allow them to not just treat their movie franchises as one off revenue makers.

For Disney this buzz and buildup generates revenue is so many others ways its hard to fathom.

Anyone surprised Marvel movies are still doing so well? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them and they are always competent but they are getting really over the top and silly now.

Comic book movies used to be a joke because they were silly and no one took them seriously. Then came Dark Knight and Iron Man and they were like actual serious movies that anyone could watch and enjoy and it saved the genre. To me, it seems like we are back to silly comic movies that are hard to take seriously.

It's really hard for me to get invested in a purple space monster. The big action sets and CG have no emotion. It just feels big and dumb for the stupid masses. Anyone else starting to feel that way?

it's been a slow build to the ridiculousness that is comicbooks, and that's a good thing. There is some great stories out there that can only be told with that silly factor. Looking back at Batman Begins and even the Dark Knight, while those are great movies, they aren't necessarily comicbooky. Too grounded in reality. Now with Man of Steel, Justice League, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, and other recent adaptations, we are reaching the bottom level of sanity that is the comicbook world. Will we ever see a Mephisto? Probably not, but we are getting closer.

I really can't express enough how much respect I have for what Feige and co. have done in building this up over the years. When you think back to just a decade ago, just a decade- there was just Iron Man. That was it. And now ten years later, just look at Avengers Infinity War and how much many of us as fans are invested in this because of how well all these other films have done in adding to the universe.

Reason why they were successful is because they had a long term plan. Avengers : Infinity had already been planned for a 2018 release in 2008. They knew exactly where they were going with each movie and each phase and how it would all culminate in the end. They had a clear roadmap and it showed. Sure not every movie was good but each one still had a little of something to add to the overall arc.

So yeah for a first attempt at an interconnected cinematic universe i think they did a good job.
