I think you have hype(beer) goggles on for this movie a little bit.
And you know what it's fine if you do, I'm just saying it didn't work that great for me, it didn't feel like this big culmination cause the stakes were jimmied from the get go.
So many characters, so little time to work with them it felt disjointed at times and just a huge checklist that had to be filled so everyone gets his share of the pie.
For me a 7 out of 10 is a positive score and the end of it.. I might be biased at times but I do try to keep it real that all failed miserably doesn't hold water to me in the slightest.
You hyped for part 2 ? what do you think happens how do they fix it do you read comics how did they fixed it in there ? Do you think they bring back Gamora ?
Though I won't completely rule out the possibility that I may have some fanboy goggles on, I think I'm a pretty fair minded guy when it comes to movies and such. I'm more than willling to acknowledge and accept criticisms.
I saw the movie 2x now, about a week's time apart, and I didn't give it a score until I watched it the 2nd time because there was so much going on in it I felt I needed to see it a 2nd time to really take it in.
I have also read the comics, so I would actually argue that my 'fanboy goggles' would make me MORE likely to criticize a bad Marvel movie, than to praise one. Back in the days when comic movies were rare, I would have been willing to give them a lot more leeway. But now? No way.
So many characters, yes. But, so many movies. 18 of them. Those 18 movies set up the characters and the story of IW. You're not supposed to look at IW as a separate movie. You couldn't go into IW without seeing the other movies and have the same appreciation and understanding of them as someone that did.
I don't take issue at all with your score, I am just criticizing HOW you got to that score.
I think Infinity War is a very unique movie, because it is literally 10 years in the making. This movie could not have been what it was without the other 18 Marvel movies.
I'm curious, did you watch all of the other Marvel movies? Were you confused about plot points, powers, or characters?
Did you see this as an Avenger movie? Or the way it was intended, a Thanos movie? If you were to look at this thinking that the Avengers are the main leads then that would skew your view, imo. This was Thanos quest, and his movie.
To answer your questions, I am very much hyped for the 2nd movie. And I also have read the comics.
The comic and the movie version of events differ quite a bit on a few things (for the better), so it's hard to predict how they will conclude things in the 2nd movie. There are characters in the comics that were key figures in turning things around, and those characters either arent in the movies, or aren't key figures. For example, there was no sacrifice needed for the Soul stone, so Gamora wasn't as big a part in the comics as she was in the movie.
In the comics, Thanos actually makes half the universe disappear BEFORE any battle happens with the heroes. The remaining heroes go to find Thanos and try and reverse it. They defeat Thanos in a way that just wouldn't work in the movies. Thanos fights a bunch of cosmic entities (characters called 'Eternity', 'Love' 'Hate', etc) and he fights them in a sort of astral form--that's when Nebula (his blue robot daughter) takes the gauntlet off his hand as he's distracted in the astral plane. (something along those lines..i haven't read the comic in a long while)
I don't really know what direction they are going to go in solving this. What I WANT is for Thanos to continue to be a credible character. I don't want him to just be a punching bag bad guy to get beat up in IW 2. I think that he either he should have a hand in reversing what he did himself, or one of the heroes has to sacrifice their life, using the gauntlet somehow to reverse things.
I don't think Gamora comes back in IW. She wasn't just trapped in the stone--she was thrown off a cliff. She was killed, and then her soul went into the stone. So unless they reverse time that far back, I don't see her coming back--but I could be wrong. If/When she comes back, I'd say that would be in the next Guardian of the Galaxy movie.
