Movies AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Thread v.9

I'm not sure Marvel has come up with a film as consistently strong as any of the LOTR trilogy(although this one isn't isn't far off IMHO as was WInter Solider) but where I do think its clearly strong is when it comes to characters. Its easy to look at the comedy and one liners and write them off as shallow but ultimately I do think they've given them a good deal of depth and indeed made sure that they have a very high quality cast.

The last 5 years or so of Marvel when its really found its feet for me has been based on really making sure that its films are based on the characters above everything. So whilst no I don't think it has a setting that carries the same weight as Middle Earth of the original Starwars films it does have characters who do.
They've done a fantastic job infusing the latest marvel movies with comedy. The latest Thor and Avengers did it extremely well while maintaining tone.

What saddens me, is that RDJ and Chris Evans proved they could run the big show. I don't think anyone else will be able to step up and fill that spot, even if Chadwick is next in line to do so.

Watching the old guard retire will be a hard mountain to climb. I know that if anyone can do it, Marvel can, but man, watching these dudes leave the universe will be a VERY sad day for the fans.

I don't think Chadwick or anyone else for that matter can hold their jockstraps....

lol what? Are you saying people only liked The Dark Knight and this movie because they wanted to? Come on man they are good movies that's why people liked them. If you don't like them that's fine but it doesn't mean everyone else is crazy and just forcing themselves to believe these movies are good.
Apparently he's spent the last 10 years believing that no one actually likes the Dark Knight, they just willed themselves into liking it.

You've got to fucking kidding me. There's just no way you really believe that. One series is the epitome of high fantasy, has an incredible universe and won multiple Oscar's. The other is popcorn entertainment that's a better version of Transformers.
its a pretty terrible example of high fantasy.... its a vastly overrated franchise imo

The Dark Knight is still a fantastic movie even 10 years after. Its just very different in style than the MCU, More down to earth , gritty and reality based which is not a bad of thing.

Infinity war is more grandiose and spectacular but that does not make TDK an average movie. It's still one of the best superhero movie ever made imho

I saw it! I saw this movie and avoid all spoilers!!! Oh shit it was good! This movie was nuts and did not fuck around!! It just fucking started!! And what felt like 5 minutes in so much shit happened, Thanos and his henchmen, killing of Loki and Heimdel and major hulk defeat WOW!

Man like if you have been waiting to see a marvel movie and choose this as your first one ... lol. I love it though by now we don't need all these introductions - let's get to work!

This is the darkest marvel to date and it's not even close. Oh my shit he choked loki to death! That's some dark shit for a 5 year old to see!! Where is the outrage like when Apocalypse choked out Mystique?

Man I would hate to be a fanboy for the Hulk. "Oh boy I can't wait to see the HULK!!!" .... lose a 20 second match and not appear in the rest of the movie. Is this Marvel trying to subvert expectations? They faked out the trailer and I actually like that, keeps everyone guessing.

But Man how disappointing the hulk was. Like he couldn't handle a loss and wouldn't fight again ala Conor McGreggor. Banner and hulk starting to talk to each other is an avenue I don't want to see these character take - it seems weird off place

I loved telekinetic evil guy. He was AWESOME!! Seriously, all these henchmen children of thanos were great and not generic, but telekinetic guy was amazing. Loved him so much! Opening fight scene was great! Disappointing to see the telenetic guy lose first but liked how it was done, thought it was a clever spidey move. Spidey's costume was interesting but don't want to see it in Spider-Man sequel.

loved then they used the mystic portal thing to cut off that large dude's arm. Forgot if that was Strange or Wong. Man I'm trying to think of another time cutting off someone's arm off with a portal would come in handy ... hmmm...

Liked the reality stone fake out. NVM that Thor 2 said the reality stone was liquid and now it's not but fuck it. Hey ... what's with Thanos and bubbles? At least twice he turned hero's weapons or attack into bubbles... why is bubbles the first thing he thinks of? This big evil man and all he cam come up with it bubbles?? Why not spiders or something? Bubbles? Fucking bubbles?

What am I talking about

Space ships were cool, visuals were amazing, Thanos was the best. Marvel is stepping up their badguy game for sure, which was a major weakness for them before. Thanos motivations being what the movie made them be instead of a love for death was good too.

They were definitely fucking with the audience with that soul stone. Which wasn't orange enough by the way. At the start of the movie they kill Heimdel, fuck that theory! And Thor makes a remark too like "Nobody knows where that one is huh guys wink wink nudge nudge" and I hated where it turned out to be. Marvel movies are so thought out and this felt like they forgot about it until they were making the movie ... Oh fuck we gotta put it in!! The getting the soul stone scene was bothersome for me, my least favourite part of the movie and a super pointless return of Red Skull .... did we need this? This took me out of the movie and made me remember I was watching a nerdy over the top comic book movie.

The heroes in this movie were at the worst, geepers they ALL made wrong moves! Like every one of them! Quill not killing Gamora and then preventing them from almost getting Thanos oven mitt off. Fuckin Quill. Everyone fucking around trying to keep Vision alive when they can kill the stone???? Like the whole universe is on the line but they risk it all for a weird red robot man that I hate? Oh my gosh

The worst part about this movie though was Dr. Strange.

Let me start by saying that Dr. Strange was the best part of this movie. His fight scenes were awesome, and I loved his on screen presence. He did some cool new trippy fight moves and I loved em all, he has ths best attacks!! Man these fight scenes were next level over the top and fantastic. Where do they go from here???!? I think they reached the top of the bar.

So when they were stuck on the ship and Tony was trying to save face pretending they could fly it ummmm ... why couldn't Dr. Strange sling ring himself home? Are his portals only limited to earth or can he go anywhere?

Dr. Strange was very much about defending the lime coloured infinity stone with his life saying he wouldn't hesitate to let Tony and Pete die if it came to that. .... HE would not HESISTATE to let iron man and spidey die to save the stone!!! ... then later he's like "Here's the stone please don't hurt my best friends"

?!?!?!?!?! WHAT IN THE FUCK!>!!!>!!> This shit better be explained in the next movie cause it was so awful it was unreal. I was astonished at that scene. ANd it happened in slow motion too ... green stone slowly floating to him .... expecting a betrayal or cool Dr. Strange movie but no ... Thanos just adds another colourful rhinestone to his Michael Jackson glove and leaves ... ????

It was actually refreshing to see the badguy win, this a a bold move for marvel, finally the bad guy fuckin win and it cuts to credits on his smile! People turning into ash was shocking and haunting. Surprised what characters they chose to kill off. Fuck you black panther! Spidey's death scene was heart breaking. Fuck sakes he was studying for his math test 5 hours ago. Wonder how the announced Spider-Man will go without him? Wondering how the announced Guardians of the Galaxy movie will go with these remaining Guardians:

That's going to be a weird movie.

Interesting Stan Lee cameo but to be honest I was distracted because there's a 95 year old man driving a school bus of kids!!! lol legit was what I as thinking.

Iron Man's armour was cool. Cap was sexier than ever. Loved the Thor and Quill scene where Quill tried to change his voice. Guardians were involved in the best jokes. Loved the Guardians entrance with the music. Teen groot didn't do it for me, he just sucks, Big Groot and Baby Groot had more screen time and were much better characters. Teen Groot sucks ass.

Loved Rocket's reoccurring body parts gag, the eye for Thor, wanting Winter Soldier's arm. This I think was a gag they started for the movies but it was so fun they kept doing it.

Loved the way characters played off each other. The Guardians vs Spidey and Iron Man and Strange scene was Great! Marvel can't resist situations where heroes fight each other.

Saw Thanos time reversal coming from a mile away.

Random Tobias Arrested Development scene???!

Post credit scene!!! yay!!! Samuel L Jackson!!! ... and hes dead. Loved the plane crash in the background as the pilot must have got deleted. Interesting thought, how much did Thanos fuck up the universe with this?

Calling Miss Marvel? Really? NOW!!?!? Why now? Why not with Ultron or the Chittuari etc

fuck sakes

I may have more thoughts later

10/10 I just like to nitpick and be an asshole but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie!! Good times. So many characters! What a show ! Time for ... Ant Man stand alone movie? Yay?

Yeah dude. 30 Oscar nominations and 17 wins. Totally overrated. I'm sure you know better.
because nothing like it had been seen before..... release that pile of shit nowadays after people have been made aware of the song of ice and fire stories through game of thrones and it would get jack shit

maybe go rewatch that dog-shit and stop imagining some masterpiece..... because its no-where near it.

You’d have to be a miserable loser to sit in a theater and watch this and not have a great time.

Now you're comparing GRRM to Tolkien? Dude, you might have the worst opinion on this I've ever seen. Martin doesn't even come close to Tolkien in any way and I'm a big ASOIAF fan. You'd have a really hard time finding even the most avid ASOIAF fan that would agree with you.

I think Marvel do have a very strong all round cast though, beyond the big two, Ruffalo, Johansson, Cumberbatch and now Boseman plus an improving Helmsworth all show potential to carry things well to me, its more I think a question of how this ties into the characters.

Strange and Black Panther do seem naturally similar to Stark and Rogers in personality and the nature of abilities(one full of tricks, the other with tech powers fighting prowess) although I think there backgrounds make them rather harder to relate into the everyday. I can't really imagine them staring in a film like WInter Solider for example but I spose you could argue Marvel might shift towards granded events. The same is even more obviously true of Thor, he's naturally much more suited to the cosmic hence being kept out of a film like Civil War.

The Hulk's nature does seem to make it harder to take on a largership role although Banner potentially gaining more control might I spose change that and he is in some respects quite similar to Stark and more "normal" in background. The same with Widow as well who you could argue has really been Cap's pupil in terms of moral outlook in his last two films so might be a choice to take over, maybe with a bit more tech power upgrades.

To repeat it again I really don't think just killing characters is the sole source of depth. I mean Stark and Rogers have very obviously been willing to die for there causes right from the start, that finally happening isnt really the greatest test for them nore the most interesting writing by itself.

I don't think anyone was talking about another movie being sandwiched in between Avengers 3 & 4. He was talking about a continuation after 4. I never meant to comment that I agree with him on that one way or the other... but I was saying that if they did that... contractual issues would not make it "impossible" to work out.

That said... your point is that they're not under contract any more... & that would take years to work out... & you find it "unlikely" (not impossible) that they would do that.

Unless you are an insider working for Marvel MCU/Disney... you wouldn't know whether they have a script for more Avengers or whatever. You also wouldn't know that the information about those actor's next contract not being signed yet was a ruse. They release info from behind closed doors as they please... & who's to say they didn't hold back the information about them re-signing in order to create a dramatic effect for the Avengers 3 & 4 movies? It certainly has us discussing the matter... so that's a win for them.

Bro... I've been talking about that from our second post on, that those people would be revived. Why have you been arguing with me about this?

Okay if you don't agree with the method in which I described... but we're arguing about the same out come. I'm saying that Thanos is mission accomplished & so he doesn't wear the glove 24/7 anymore & that makes a nice possibility for someone else to get it from him. I don't find that too outrageous. To your point, it would be much more cinematically pleasing for someone to take it from him while he's wearing it... but I just don't see the reality of that.

Lol we have nothing to discuss then. You misread my post. Re-read what I was chatting about..

And I didn’t start arguing with u. You replied to my post first.

ASOIAF is far better than LOTR..... it doesnt follow an obvious path, it isnt just a simple 'Good vs Evil' story like LOTR.

I'm a Hulk fan you scumbag

ASOIAF is far better than LOTR..... it doesnt follow an obvious path, it isnt just a simple 'Good vs Evil' story like LOTR.

LOTR isnt really a simple good vs evil story either, the "evil" characters presense in the story is actually very distant, its much more a case of conflict between the various "good" characters(and Gollum as a moral grey area) and there being tested morally.

Honestly whilst its obviously far more complex in politics I think GoT tends to be the story that's far more focused on Good vs Evil, even if its often done in an interesting fashion. Its full of characters we love to hate finally getting their just deserts.

I would say most people think GoT is a better story than LotR

Yes its the next part right after that series. Just came out last week.

Im really looking forward to reading the Cosmic Ghost Rider series..... seeing a mentally unhinged Frank Castle as a ghost rider that was also a herald of Galactus seems utterly bonkers lol

it pretty much is..... armies of men vs armies of orcs, the hero saves the day and everyone lives happily ever after

boooooo-ring

Was anyone else hoping to see more of Cap’s new shield? He mostly just used it (them?) to punch people, right?

I want his old shield back

i hope tony and him come together at the end. that would be a great way to end 4
