AVENGERS: ENDGAME (Dragonlord's Review)

How quickly people turn on the guy who made the first Avengers movie happen. It was something which had pretty much never been done before, brining together a team from a slew of different movies like that, and he not only did it, but did it damned well, and actually introduced Thanos to the MCU. But now it's all "lol... Whedon." Trust MMA fans to have a "what have you done for me lately?" assessment of value.

Just because he made the first Avengers doesn't mean I have to like him for it. He still sucks. He nearly ruined Black Widow. He robbed us of the Mjolnir scene by using Vision (thank the Russos for still making it so satisfying), among other things. Fuck, he didn't even want to use Thanos.

Imagine the hype for Rise if Rey had taken his hand and gone off with him to rule the galaxy togther then the first teaser ends with her in all black looking like an evil bitch of a Sith.

As I'v said previously I think the most disaponting thing about that film is that it had potential, I mean the resistance plot is mostly just shit but I suspect a lot of that exists to cover that it backs down from its own premise.

Its why I do have some sympathy for Rian Johnson, I very strongly suspect his script did have Rey joining Kylo and Disney baulked at their "strong female lead" actually showing some interesting dramatic weakness and demanded he change it.

I think the amount they paid for Lucasfilm made Disney very conservative, they hired JJ Abrams to make a low risk formula film and then didnt have the guts to go with an Empire like follow up.

Overall I'd give this movie an 8.5 out of 10.

Infinity War was a 9.5-10 for me. Whereas Infinity War felt very fresh and subverted the MCU formula Endgame is a full on ode to the MCU formula.

I didn't like that Tony died in the end. It seemed like the moments he had in the movie helped to give him perspective on his life and working with others. What's the point of him even wanting to keep the last 5 years if he's just going to die? It would have been great if he survived and then the end scene was all the heroes having a party together with a bunch of fun interactions since they're probably not going to be in the same place again. Instead we got a depressing funeral.

It's also really weird that in the Universe half the population is 5 years younger than they're supposed to be.

I mentioned that a while back. In retrospect, Strange's line in IW, "I'm sorry, Tony, but there was no other way", is absolutely chilling. He knew that the only way to defeat Thanos was for Stark to sacrifice himself. Strange is a good guy, but also a stone cold motherfucker when he has to be. It actually reminds me of Cumberbatch's line in the title role of Sherlock,

"I may fight on the side of the angels, but don't think for one moment that I am one!"

This probably answered why Strange broke with protocol and was more willingly to give up the Time Stone for Tony’s life. Tony plays a pivotal role in recusing the universe. Without his input, time travel would not had been possible in collecting the stones

Yea I can agree with that. In general I feel like the MCU fucked up with Vision. They always just kind of had him there not doing much. I don't know if they just didn't know how to expand on his character or if they didn't want to bother.

Agreed I love Strange man he's such a great character. I'm looking forward to his movie more than anything. The only thing I'm worried about is that the Villian they setup from the last movie seems to be able to stop you from using magic. The #1 way to ruin any super hero movie is to take away the super heros power. So I hope that's not the way the movie plays out.

It’s possible but we shouldn’t be diving for quotes just to look for answer. There could had been a line or two explaining it in the story. All well good movie nevertheless.


My other beef is the unnecessary sacrifice of Black Widow. I know the future Avengers wanted to bring everyone back, but if they did succeed in just obtaining every stones except the soul, then past Thanos would not have acquire the means to kill the entire universe. Then by all accounts the future would have been altered and half of the universe would not have been killed.

Your right they should have taken a few mins to explain that in the movie.

They can't change their present timeline the way you're talking about. This is what Banner (or Tony?) was talking about. Anything they change will only create a new time line but their time line will still be fucked. The only solution they had was to bring the stones back and reverse the snap.
