I haven't read much, but The Road was a good read. And I've heard No Country For Old Men was true to the source material.

could change on a whim but currently

Dostoyevskey : the interiority of his characters and the nature of his stories are timeless and masterful.
Tolstoy: possibly the greatest storyteller in history
Murakami: strange almost liminal fiction with a musical quality to his prose. everytime i read his books i feel like im under a spell
Murata: probavly my favorite contemporary Japanese author. her stories are wierd, fun and thoughtful.
Bellow: Herzog was my second favorite book last year. the way he weaves philosophy, history and imagery into gis work is amazing.
Steven Erikson: Malazan nuff said
DFW: love his essays, and his books are challenging. aleays fynny and poignant
Paz: my favorite poet of all time.
Hanh: his interpretations and dahrma talks are great. his commentaries on sutras are worth multiple readings
Azuela: los de abajo is one of my favorite books and i love his raw takes

being honest i havent read Warren Piece or Anna Karenenenena yet. But, His short stories, Childhood series, Confessions, Death of Ivan Illytch and the cossacks are all amazing

Im from Denver or Albuquerque, my mom lived in one and my father the other

have you read any of Howards ither works? his boxing stories are pretty cool as they all are like mini rocky stories. And his horror fiction stuff is fun (he was friends and influenced by Lovecraft so there is a bunch of overlap)

Yes I have and his westerns, along with King Kull, Solomon Kane, Brak Mac Morn, El Borak.

Great great writer, bummer is as ya know, suicide at 30.
