Austria Bans Burqa, Introduces Mandatory Integration Courses

There are no real "rights". There is only what society agrees to allow you or what you can demand and enforce being given. And even if you are allowed "it", there are still issues of interpretation of what "it" means and how much of "it" you are allowed. In the US, we see that clearly in regards to speech and gun rights.

Its a start, but a small fine is not a good punishment. If its deemed illegal to wear a burqa then it should be three strikes and you're out, deported.

when did this come up? how did you jump to this in our convo?

how is a person wearing a burqa an example of them wanting to change your country? its plausible that some might want to do that, but id wager that most are just wearing the clothing that they want to wear.

i dont get it.
Truthfully, wearing a hijab is no different than Hasidic Jews wearing the hat and forelocks. It's no different than Amish women wearing bonnets and ankle length skirts or Amish men wearing hats and neck beards. It's no different than buddist monks wearing their orange robes or Sikhs wearing turbans. It is not only a affirmation of their faith but a symbol of their culture and in that regards there are no issues.

The only issue with a hijab is the same as it would be with any of these other "symbols", when it is forced upon another through violence and intimidation. Outside of that, to each their own within the laws of the land you occupy.

The one hard line I draw is the burka and that is because it's a very real and serious security concern when it comes to masking identities and even genders.

i mostly agree with all of that.

security is a legitimate concern.

and there are instances where people are forced, within their family, to wear these things. in a western country, if you can find that someone is being forced to wear one against their will, that should be corrected somehow. and maybe due to the security issue alone, they shouldnt be allowed.

Good for Austria. If they don't like it, they can go live in Iraq, wear the burqua and throws gays off building. YOu want to live in a civilized country, you go by their rules.

A new law in Austria will ban women from wearing any Islamic dress that conceals their faces as of October.

According to RT, the president of Austria has also approved a law that will stop migrants who fail to take language lessons from receiving benefits.

The text of the law reads: “Those who are not prepared to accept Enlightenment values will have to leave our country and society.”

The law has drawn thousands of protestors to the streets of Austria earlier in the year but it has been passed by the centrist coalition.

Any woman who wears face-concealing Islamic dress, such as the burqa or niqab, in public places will be fined €150 ($168).

Newcomers to Austria will also have to enrol in an “integration course,” that will last 12 months. This course includes German language lessons, and if anyone refuses, they will not receive benefits. Not only that, they will be forbidden from handing out radical materials, as well as forced to volunteer before getting their work permits. The volunteering rule is designed to make sure that newcomers are integrated into a working life.

Disguising yourself is already illegal in Germany.Muslims ,of course, are exempt.

Diversity is a very very general word, just as uniformity is. Unless you get specific you are really just talking nonesense.

Oh come on, you know what I'm talking about here. "Diversity" meaning mass immigration from Africa, the Middle East, South Asia also known as the third world and multiculturalism. When you walk out of your house, you shouldn't feel like you're in a foreign country.

I'm only saying that because I too often see diversity getting a bad rap. Diversity can be a great thing. It depends on the composition of that diversity. I don't disagree with your underlying point.

First u give us crocodile dundee and that blonde chick from wolf of wall street now this....australia u fucking rock!
Iv never understood how the burqua isnt banned in ever civilised country...cctv cameras are an essential part of our policeing services worldwide now, covering your face due to some old national customs(not religious reasons as some push) shouldnt be tolerated

To me, these requirements make perfect sense. I don't see any issue with demanding a group of supplicants learn and respect the values of the society that gives them protection.
