Australian Gaming PC thread

Oh well LOL... as it's already ordered, I guess I'm just going to have to hope for the best at this point.
You're probably going to want to use the curve optimizer in AMD's Ryzen Master software to undervolt the CPU to achieve lower temps. Apparently there is a tiny hit to performance with a very large decrease in temps, and this means you could keep the CPU under (or at) the thermal limit with less obnoxious fan RPMs. You'll have to sniff out support threads with other 7950X owners on Reddit or tech forums for the best information from others who are doing this.
Do people still use 3dmark or similar benchmarking programs? Will be interesting to see what it scores.
Yes, 3DMark's Time Spy and Time Spy Extreme (for the most powerful systems like yours) are the standards. Also Port Royal for ray-tracing. But I think their benchmark suite costs money.

LOL didn't realise there was so much Corsair till I looked through the new list.

Is there anything else you'd add/change before I buy?

God damn, what a beast of a machine... But can it run Crysis?

Indeed. Pretty sure he's got the biggest epeen on Sherdog, now. I'm like...

It's gotta arrive first. Thankfully they put all the components together and do a run in test before shipping it as a free service if requested.

I haven't put a PC together in about 12 years. I'm old and lazy these days.

Which of the new cases did you go with, or did you decide to stick with the original Corsair 5000D, and get an external DVD-RW as you mentioned you might? I must say I really like the Cougar Panzer Max. All-around acclaim from reviewers and users who purchased it alike, too.
https://www.techspot.com/products/cases/cougar-panzer-max.144706/

Impressive flagship from a brand that has come up as a hungry, frugal alternative to the big hitters; making solid cases that don't cut important corners at the lowest price possible. Another year or two and they'll have broken out of that, I think, having established themselves as a 'household name' among the building community. I thought Montech would become their replacement, but Montech seems keen to associate themselves with a higher starting price point.

Of course, the Corsair 678C has a classic minimalist design, and you can almost never go wrong with one of their cases.

I just went with the 5000D. I already purchased it before you mentioned the other cases. Oh well, should be fine.

Ah, again, my bad. I thought their policies might offer you time to request a change to another case.

Holy giant jumping shitballs that box is heavy.

What is this PC made out of, lead?

ive got a 4000D. its about the only case i could find in stock at that time that could accomodate my noctua nh-d15 behemoth of a cooler. that 5000D must be a monster.

Good luck getting a new xbox or playstation these days. I'll buy one when available.

I can't write them off on tax though unfortunately.
Theres xboxs ans ps5 bundles in canada

The alienware desktops have cooling issues. Theres a mod on here who rly knows his stuff. Im sure he will post advice

Yep, @Madmick helped a lot. The PC is sitting there, just need to figure out why it won't power up.

I think the power draw off that socket is too high if I had to guess, just have to stretch an extension cable and plug it in somewhere else.

Is the PSU's power switch in the "on" position?

Oh yeah oops...

Dude come on, I have been working with computers for nearly a quarter of a century LOL.

Turns out there were multiple problems. Had to move PC to another power point, had to reset back to defaults after enabling 5200mhz for the ram and it appears that my usb DVD player is screwed as it won't boot properly... bugger :(

Edit: Oops, I should have specified that I have been working with them professionally for that long. Add another 10 or so years to that screwing around with them when I was young.

This is protocol, it isn't an insult. One runs down the checklist. That's something I've overlooked in the past which has had my heartrate firing like a machine gun for an uncomfortable stretch of minutes. Personally, I always hope it's a simple 'duh' oversight on my part like this that resolves a scary impasse.

The Corsair Dominator can't even maintain its XMP frequency settings without issue? Hopefully that is a BIOS issue that is resolved with an update because, FFS, that's a paltry +400 MHz overclock (+8.3%).

So, worth the $?

Oops, somehow I missed this post.

Yeah, it's a beast and I can run up a heap of VMs without issue. I played one video game for about half an hour and haven't gamed since though so the 4090 is definitely going to good use LOL
