Japanese gamers largely don’t care about any manufactured controversies as evidenced by it being one of the most popular games in the country from a franchise that’s not very popular.

Why does it matter though? Republican politicians would blame real world violence on video games and both the left and right would laugh at them together because we know it’s absurd. Which group is white knighting? We've got a bunch of Americans defending the honor of the Japanese lmao. People that live there don't seem nearly as upset. There was a YouTuber that went over there and tried to bring the culture war stuff to the conversation and most Japanese were just like "yeah I don't really care if there's a black dude in the game." It reminds me of that time a white chick dressed up in a traditional Chinese dress and some liberals were pissed off and calling it cultural appropriation meanwhile actual Chinese people were like "that's based, she's interested in our culture". It's kind of funny how the cultural shift happened. The SJW crowd was annoying as fuck and now it's the antiwoke that has become the thing they hated. It will burn out eventually too.

So yeah I think you're responding to the wrong group. I'm not even going to buy this day one as I don't care much for Ubisoft style of open world. I just think the hate this is getting is beyond absurd.

As you can see from the Acclaimed Games metalist, it was #4 for the year behind only Uncharted 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and League of Legends. Ubi maintained that inertia and market interest for four more years, through Black Flag, and then the wheels fell off.

They've done nothing to adapt. Their hail mary was, "Hey, let's appeal to gamers by putting a black samurai in feudal Japan. No such thing as bad news when it comes to advertisement-- controversy is free marketing! Besides, gamers are young, and young people are liberal, so gamers are a liberal lot, right?"

Meh. I’m sure 82 probably is what it deserves. I’m sure it’s a beautiful game that would plays exactly like you would expect, which is basically the same as the other 19 games in the series.

Personally I think the gameplay is played out. I kind of want to play it because the graphics look great and I love medieval Japan. I would probably get bored of the gameplay pretty quickly. If you’ve never played an AC game I’m sure it’s great.

Story is almost always borderline ass in these games

A couple of hours in and this is Assassin's creed mixed with Ghost of Tsushima which is all I was hoping it'd be really. Game world seems stunning from the little I've explored.
