Aspinall shot himself in the foot, if he really wanted to fight Jones

He just announced that he is retiring out of fear in the brand new interview.

Shame you got banned <SelenaWow>

Theres nothing there for Jones just another dangerous fight against the unknown. Even if he wins and retires people would say he ducked the next guy he wont fight since he is retired. Gane was all that until Jones easily dismantled him. People wont get to see Jones beat out of the ufc and some people have a hard time with it. It just the way it will go.

Utter nonsense. Aspinall has been respectful this entire time up until recently and Jones has been ducking him the entire time.

Jones is absolutely afraid to fight Aspinall. Not because he is afraid of a fight but because he is afraid to lose. He wants to end his career without risking a loss.
How can you duck someone when you are injured and your next contracted fight was made long before the lastest groupie even came into the picture??

Jones came up fighting many of the biggest names in the sport, one right after the other. In a span of 9 months, he submitted Shogun, Rampage, and Machida. All 3 are absolute legends. Then over a 12-month span, he defeated Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, and Chael Sonnen. Each of those fighters were very well-known among the general fan base in 2012-13.

Jones' opponent in his 7th title fight had a much lower profile: Alexander Gustafsson. Jones fought like he wasn't interested in the fight. The same thing happened when Jones fought other fighters with small fan bases, such as Thiago Santos and Dominic Reyes. Jones looked disinterested against them. But whenever Jones fights a high profile opponent, he is at his best.

Aspinall thinks he is a bigger name than he really is. He is known by sherdoggers, but we make up a very small sliver of the PPV-buying public. The UK market is relatively small as well, especially in terms of revenue for the PPV cards. To Jones, Aspinall is another small fish like Gustafsson, Santos, and Santos.

The big name fight is the man who holds the lineal UFC heavyweight title: Francis Ngannou. Given the UFC is doing business with Riyadh Season, perhaps there is an avenue to make Jones vs Ngannou after all. If the Saudis are willing to throw enough money at everyone involved, it could happen.

Goddamn these PR accounts are so childish and stupid.

Just hurry up and retire Jon so we don't have the read these bullshit kindergarten-level PR jobs any longer.

TKO employees: "Hey guys I just realized what you are seeing for the last 3 years isn't real and the opposite is true, let me explain..."

Shut the fuck up already.

Jones is absolutely not scared of Aspinall and he's never ducked anyone.

He's the greatest of all time with nothing to prove at all, and now just taking victory laps.

If Aspinall was more respectful and not so pushy, I believe Jones would have fought him after Stipe (assuming he beat Stipe).

Pushing Jones to fight him when Jones was already locked in to the Stipe fight AND recovering, was just a stupid move. Jones couldn't really fight him now if he wanted to.
And now Jones has been put in a great position after all of the premature Aspinall whining.

He has nothing to gain by fighting Aspinall and he probably is enjoying the tears from all the haters that keep pushing for him to fight Aspinall. He might just leave Aspinall hanging, just from the satisfaction he gets from all of yours and Aspinall's tears.
Bravo.

Jones does have something to gain fighting Aspinall as Aspinall is a current top division HW and one of the only true elites at HW outside of Gane.

But the truth is Aspinall should have been strategic with his call out of Jones. You do not want to annoy a fighter by being a prick, following him around to ask for photo ops for a fight while he is injured and has a another fight currently, and shitting on Stipe and the bout. Then whining that you are a tougher fight and that you should have jones cancel his current fight with Stipe because you are entitled to it.

The kid is a rookie with a big head with dick riders who suck his dick for some reason. Aspinall annoyed the hell out of me with his constant shitting on Stipe though and his entitlement that he deserves to cut ahead of a fight that was booked before he was even a contender for anything at HW. Aspinall knows the situation, Jones is injured and has a current fight set after he comes back from an 8 month injury. It is a shit situation but to follow the guy around like a clown and bad mouth Stipe and then whine like a little kid is ridiculous.

How has that approach worked out for Chandler?

Aspinal has every right to be pushy. He’s had to defend his interim title, which negates the entire purpose of that belt. On top of that, he faces another year of waiting until the Stipe situation is resolved and the title becomes available again.

What happens if Bones beats Stipe and hetires
Does Aspinal just become the Real Champ finally?
Or does Goof Dana set up some type of fight

Jones is absolutely not scared of Aspinall and he's never ducked anyone.
Keep repeating that Dana. We know, we know, Pico walks outta rooms and stuff.
It was really now or never with the Stipe fight.
True, NEVER was the time for it when DC, Stipe, Frank were HW Champions.

Ducked Aspinall and ducked Chael on short noticed since the middle aged men he was gonna fight pulled out.

Also has never fought any of his UFC opponents clean.

lol no

the only thing Aspinall can do is stir up so much shit that the public takes notice and Jones starts looking at the fight as a fight that will bring in money

Instead of shaking Jones hand when he went to see him at that fitness expo he should've walked up to him and spat in his face

Now that fight does great PPV numbers

you're welcome

It's one of the most blatant cases of ducking I've ever seen in combat sports. When the fuck did it become acceptable to avoid an opponent because he's talking trash? lmao

Imagine if Adesanya refused to fight Costa because he said mean things. Or Aldo refused to fight Conor. Wtf are you smoking OP?

i agree to the extent that aspinall has misplayed his hand a bit. he was pretty respectful of jones, but i don’t think that’s necessarily been his problem. jones holds all the cards at the moment tho, and he can walk away from the table at any time. he might fight aspinall if he thought it would help his legacy more than stipe. to that end, fighting stipe is his best chance, because it takes the shine off stipe’s name. jon got injured last time, and that could have been a great spot for aspinall to jump in and fight stipe. he should be ready if it happens again—have his promo team out on the forums pushing for it, have his agent blowing up dana’s phone, and put it into the news cycle himself with interviews. they’ll make that fight if they think it’s bankable.

not only doesn't jones want to fight aspinall, the ufc doesn't want him fight him either lol. the ufc has a pretty good idea that he's going to lose to aspinall. a very high-risk fight of him losing at the very least. it's better for both parties involved for jones to beat stipe, giving both jones and the ufc the angle that jones went undefeated and is thus the goat, and the ufc being able to advertise for years on end that the goat fought for them and never lost. all smoke and mirrors in the hopes that fans buy it.

So you accept, Aspinall was goading and disrespecting Jones.

How could Jones fight him and agree to fight him when he hasn't even got around to the fight he's locked in next?

You can't push a fighter to agree to a fight and look beyond or disregard his next opponent - especially a fighter like Jones.

Like I said, Aspinall and the morons online pushed for this fight faaaar too early.

Tom does not owe Jones any respect at all, and if he isn't pushing as hard as he can lobbying for the Jones fight, then he's letting himself down.

Tom didn't create the interim belt, Dana and the UFC did. Tom just won it. Tom has also (absurdly) defended the interim title as well. If not lobbying to unify the HW betls and the fight with Jones... who should he call out instead, or what's his play? Patiently sit in the corner quietly waiting for scraps? Keep racking up "interim" title defenses?

Anything short of calling out for the unification match is stupid, unnecessary, and a waste of time. Jones can't tolerate a teenager on the internet, sooner or later, something will stick in his craw if Aspinall keeps it up.

And that "rookie" accomplished more in the past 3 or 4 years than Jones has done in a decade. Tom was a contender before Jones vs. Miocic was announced, despite what anyone wants to believe, and has gone 9-1 with 9 finishes and 7 "of the night" bonuses. Want to go back 10 fights for Jon? Gustaffson, 11 years ago. Go back 10 fights for Miocic. Hunt, in 2015.

So yes, based on his actual merits, Tom does have the right to push and lobby for Miocic's slot. Which also makes it common sense and spitting facts (when you are the Interim champ) and not simply whining. NO ONE would be complaining about Jones fighting Miocic if there was no belt on the line. All the furor and uproar goes away. All the stupidity just goes away.

And obviously having an upcoming fight "booked" in the UFC doesn't mean shit, now does it?
