Media Aspinall is surprised people thought alex won

Alex did a lot of leg damage. Once upon a time that won Carlos Condit an interim title.

That being said, the scoring system is round based. Period. Alex lost.

"Leg damage" based on what standard? Him having pail skin that marked up and Rogan and Cormier yelling about it?

Under the current judging standard, if a guy isn't being visibly wobbled by leg kicks, they're not going to count them above other volume all things being equal, especially if the opponent was landing more damaging upper torso strikes like Ankalaev was.

RE Diaz/Condit, Condit outlanded Diaz by a significant margin overall.

Big Tom gotta be careful what he says and he clearly knows it. He don't want Big Ank to turns his attention towards him.

"Uneducated MMA fans" is practically redundant. Nobody should expect a reasonable take from an average MMA fan.

For every Pereira fan on here cheering him on there’s someone cheering for his downfall.

I don't know about uneducated.?.but moi? - I had a clear win for Ank.

Consensus is it was an extremely close fight. Love Tom as a fighter but he's off base here by mile.View attachment 1087004

Media members have a vested interest in Pereira since he pumps their numbers, and the only fans who go on MMAdecisions are ones who felt like their favorite fighter should have won.

Poatan most likely won 3-2, although 2 of those rounds were realistically even, and created possibly the greatest example out of hundreds for why the 10-9 system in mma is total dogshit.
perhaps not the right thread/off-topic but I kinda agree......10-9 is suited for bxing where they have 10 rounds or 12 etc.

for a 3 round or a 5 round fight the 10-9 system is not good enough. in some kickboxing organisations they use the 10-9 system but have 5 judges instead of 3. weird decisions or corruption is less likely with 5 judges.

that being said...returning on-topic: ankalev clearly won. no matter what scoring system is used......under the unified mma rules ankalev won. Tom is right that many fans and media dont know what they are looking at.

If you score the fight as a whole it's clear that Ank won but that's not how current MMA works.

Scoring by round, rounds 1, 2, and 4 are absolutely clear 2-1 in favor of Ank and you need to be crack-addled to say otherwise.

Round 5 was clearly won by Poatan, but you can be wrong about it through mere ignorance of the scoring criteria rather than through drug induced hallucination.

Round 3 was a toss-up that depends on subjective evaluation of the impact of no more than a handful of shots by both fighters combined over the course of the round.

Tom doesn't know what he's talking about in this case.

Aspinall doesn't understand how round scoring works, yet he is calling us uneducated. He could at least explain why he thinks there's no way Pereira won round 3, which is the only relevant round.
