He rarely fights, clearly looks slower and his best win in the last half decade is a very washed semi-retired 42 yr old. His last run at LHW consisted of 3 underwhelming and boring decisions vs Anthony Smith, Santos and Reyes. 3 guys who have been obliterated by the competition since then. I’d still comfortably favor him over any fighter above 185 not named Aspinall or Ngannou, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t regressed. Jones likely hasn’t been in his prime in 5+ years.

Gane, despite his loss to Francis, was at the top of the division when Francis left. And Stipe was the HW goat (I think people overly exagerate that btw as if it was so much more significant than it really is).

Who you want him to fight at HW? Tuivasa? Lewis?

HW division has always been a very very thin division in term of talent. Probably one of the worst in MMA.

Gane was highly touted, but among all tilte contenders he was picked by the UFC as the best matchup for Jon. That's cherry picking.

Miocic was a great HW. Emphasis on was. Same as Mike Tyson was a great boxer.

Jones should fight Aspinall, Pavlovich, Blaydes, Ngannou (Jones waited for him to leave).

Or he could fight some other all time great HWs to cement his legacy. Maybe Randy Couture or Mark Coleman are available?

Cain is one of the great fighters in the history of MMA and fought ngannou and got KOed in 20 seconds. Jones has been on the skids for awhile now arguably losing to Reyes and Santos post Cormier.

Cherry picking Gane and Miocic where they were is much different than fighting Aspinall who we don't really know what he can do. But he can crack and easily KOed the guy Jones definitely didn't want (pavlovich).

Not alot of upside for him, he wins Tom is inexperienced (40%?) He loses the whole he is unbeatable thing is out the window (it already should be, he had 3 separate fights where media scoring was close to 50/50 or less favorable to him).
