Ashton Eaton is the best athlete in the world

I ran a 10.4 in college without even training for the 100. Trust me when I say I'm more qualified to speak on this than you are.

Do not believe. I love the "without even training" bit though, that makes it sound real. Lots of credibility. I'm guessing you ran the 200m and don't think the two skills overlap.

There's probably more than you think. Jacoby Ford ran a 10.01 in college while splitting time training for football. Marquise Goodwin did a 10.24 while in highschool. I don't doubt a bunch of guys could do it if they trained specifically for track.

Jacoby Ford is making $660k and he still might get cut -- he was cut by the Jets last year. If he could run 9.9, he'd probably be making serious money on the IAAF circuit. If you look up someone Asafa Powell is worth about $7m.

So he either can't run much faster or he likes making less money. Those are two facts that counter the shit talker points against T&F athletes ITT.

A 9.9 isn't a 10.23 that rshawneecarbon1 was saying was out of reach for NFL players. Powell also runs better than a 9.9. Powell is one of the greatest sprinters of all-time.

Aside from maybe the 100 and 110 hurdles and shotput, and the discus maybe there might be someone who could compete with him in the NFL. Other than those 4 events, he would destroy the NFL all star team.

I think a lot of NFL QBs could challenge and defeat Eaton in the javelin throw as well. Eaton is great athlete, but he will not get the recognition or respect he deserves on this forum. Track and field is kind of an after thought as a sport in the US. I think lack of funding for track and poor or cut Physical Education programs have contributed to the decline of track and field in this country.

You can count on your hand how many nfl players can even dream about a time like that.

Didn't know we were talking about NFL players?

Simply put : 9.58 > 10.23.

LOL @ even imagining that race. Usain would literally finish 25+ meters ahead of the "best athlete in the world". LMAO.

Wait. You said Jacobi Ford ran 10.01 while being a part time track guy, and now you're telling me that he can't go 1% faster if he trains full time? I mean I Asafa Powell has a net worth of $7m+ so the economic incentive should be there for a guy who was making $400k 2 yrs ago in the NFL and was cut last year.

And yeah 10.23 is pretty fucking impressive for a guy who is pole vaulting 17 feet long jumping 26+ feet and wrapping it up with a 4:17 1500.

Sit your 10.4 ass down and tell us what track you are going to show up at in New Mexico and we'll have Spark79 (Heisenberg) youtube your 100m. We'll take up a payPal collection for you if you break 12.5.

He probably could. No point in moving the goal posts though. Running a 9.9 doesn't put someone in the same category of Asafa Powell though.

Asafa Powell is one of the greatest sprinters of all-time. You are trying to pass him off like he is just one of the guys. Why not bring up Justin Gatlin instead, one of the best sprinters in the world currently, net worth of $1mil in his 13 year career. Might as well just bring up how much Bolt makes if you are going to try to be disingenuous.

Never said 10.23 wasn't impressive. Said the notion that NFL players wouldn't come close to it is asinine.

So he's average at running and jumping? So basically a recess level athlete.

And since I know you all follow IAAF events, y'all know that Bolt ran 10.12 to win his first race of the year in April. Second place at an IAAF event was American Ryan Bailey at 10.24.

I guess BreakitDown would have podiumed had he been there

LMAO

Usain could run backwards and beat 10.23.

Again: 9.58 > 10.23. Are you arguing this FACT LOL?

Would love to see that race play out. Bolt would LITERALLY finish 40+ meters ahead of the "world's greatest athlete" LMAO!

Good to know the "world's greatest athlete", on his BEST DAY, could get 2nd place at an IAAF event LOL.

[YT]/watch?v=CPDMAOtJL6Q[/YT]

Eaton would easily beat any fresh NBA player or any fresh NFL player in a 1500 after he competed in 9 other events.

lmao skip to 40sec and these cans are legit yogging

No, the supposition is that the Decathlon most comprehensively tests all the different facets of human athleticism...which, as a singular sport, it does.

We need to update our ultimate test of athleticism with all the new discoveries and understanding that we gained, especially over the course of the 20th and 21st centuries so far, but the Decathlon has a tradition, and it would take years of debate by the international S&C community to settle on a new schedule of events.

reading this thread i wouldn't bother, Decathalon is a complex sport to understand in it's own right. Nonetheless they make excellent specialists when they decide to focus on one thing. Take the Dutch 100m female sprinter for example, she was a heptathlete who then decided to specialize, the rest is history.

This is the same argument for MMA and boxers, one is more versatile the other is more specialized.

Pretty simple argument either way.

Boxing: 300 Million in 1 fight
UFC: 5k reebok sponsorship

Usain: 9.58 100M, world renowned athlete
Asstain Eatshit (and live): 10.23 100M (LOL), nobody knows/cares who he is

it only proves that Specialized sports are more valued by the public. Neither athlete is better then the other.

It seems Ashton has gotten to you, everything okay my friend?

Neither is better? At least now we can see where you are coming from more clearly.

In your worldview 9.58 is EQUAL TO 10.23.

In your worldview a 5k reebok sponsorship is EQUAL TO 300m.

Good to see how your twisted mind works. You'll have to excuse the rest of us for laughing at you however LOL

you seem to obsess over the 100m, or any fast twitch pure performance sport in relation to Ashton's achievements. I don't see any argument here really, these events are centuries old. This dialogue has always been debated with those who don't really know too much about track and field.

I will say though Breakitdown, i love how you enjoy Usain, i would gladly invite you to my house one day. We can have a lot of fun together in Usain's glory. You would slide in nicely.
