Multiplat Armored Core VI

Titanfall 2 was awesome.

There was a mech game I played in 2003 when I got my first PC.

Heavy Gear, also got Heavy Gear 2. They came out in the 90s and at that point were like $10. I enjoyed it a lot.

They tried to reboot this....

Played this series since the original on ps1. The only thing it will have in common with Soulsborne games is the moonlight weapon. Laserblade in this game.

Can't wait. Looks great!

Iron Pineapple with some impressions. Surprised to hear there’s a Souls feel to it but that just gets me even harder for this.

I’m of the opinion that this is just someone who is seeing what they want to see. I trust the devs. They said the only real influence from those games is the boss battles. We’ll see but I think it would be foolish to go into this game expecting something similar to those types of games. Could only lead to disappointment, I’m just going into this hoping to be surprised. Good time to be a gamer though. I’ve got two full months to wrap up XVI and then have this waiting for me.

I mean, if by seeing what he wants means watching live gameplay and reporting on the mechanics then sure. I think it would be foolish to think a director who has done nothing but work on Souls titles for 15+ years wouldn’t have any influences on his new projects.

I’m not expecting to die and go pick up my currency in an oil puddle with all enemies respawned or anything but From has developed some of the best combat mechanics in the industry and it would be surprising for them to scrap everything for no real reason.

I’m just basing my opinion off of two things. One, the person you quoted is a Soulsborne fanboy. Nothing wrong with that but it’s clear that most people that are fans of that series have no experience playing previous AC games. Let’s face it, one has a massive fan base while the other is small. If I got a dollar for every time I heard someone calling this Mecha Souls I’d be rich. A lot of the mechanics he mentioned are not unique to previous from software titles. Hard lock ons and stamina meters were in games a long time, even stuff like Zelda had lock ons. It’s the same issue i take with any moderately difficult game being called a soulslike as if hard games never existed before them. Second, the devs have been in depth interviews stating that while there are similarities such as boss encounters this game is still very much an AC game. If anything we could say that some of the Soulsborne games were influenced by AC. Im rambling but I just think the guy is desperately hoping it to be something it might not be. Who knows until we get it in our hands though

I think you’re reading too much into his comment.

They’re definitely going to use the knowledge on combat mechanics they’ve built up over the past two decades.

Where are you guys getting that this will be anything like Elden Ring? I'm not familiar with this series but I looked at gameplay of Armored Core 5 and wasn't particularly impressed.

Armored Core was a very niche game, the vast majority of From Software fans are fans because they enjoyed their Soulsborne titles so people are hoping that it is closer to that. I personally want this to be its own thing, I think the gameplay in those titles is actually quite weak except for Sekiro. Thankfully the devs have stated that this is very much its own game despite the desire for a "Mecha Souls" as people have dubbed this prematurely.
