Are you upgrading to Windows 11?

I upgraded to 11 a long time ago. It works fine for me. I use PowerToys, which adds a lot of nice functionality.

Windows 10 will be my last Windows OS. Windows 11 is glorified spyware that comes in with a built in AD platform.. I will be riding Windows 10 for another year or so and then switching to Linux

I love updates. The last ones crashed my PC so bad that IT had to give me a new one.
Sounds like your IT department was completely retarded and never bothered to test the update before pushing it out from their WSUS. That's a them problem.

Well my current job as by far the worst IT I have seen in my life. It also makes it my problem because the time I waste with this garbage is typically time I have to catch up meeting deadlines.

Why not just use the old control panel then? It's still there and works fine.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on my 11yr old core i7 laptop.

Fuck win10 and 11 qnd the abominable Vista. Microsoft consistently managed to fuck up successive versions of windows.
Generally ......they're NOT an "upgrade " at all.

I disagree. Much smoother, more stable and secure than the old versions.

I've spent plenty of times over the years shitting on microsoft for various products and decisions but Windows 11 is actually pretty good, once it's been setup properly.

Ok thanks for the input.
I confess my colored view of MS operating systems is mainly bitter experience going all the way back to Win3.1 in the late 1980s, and Win '98 SE and Win XP (good) etc etc. I just think MS lost its way after Win XP....

I appreciate your view that Win11 is pretty robust / stable. Next PC I get I guess it'll be Win11...

Unfortunately it is still full of bloat but it doesn't take long to get rid of that. Make sure you get the pro version so you can change far more of the default settings. As I said in a previous post:

- Donotspy11 to disable all the spyware and crap.
- CCleaner to clear out all the caches, clean up the registry and remove things hidden in startup and scheduled tasks etc.
- FxSound to change around the default sound settings.
- Obviously Firefox with adblockers and dark reader.
- A good VPN (ExpressVPN)

All except the VPN are free. Should take maybe an hour and you'll have a really good OS. Even the built in firewall/AV/anti spyware is quite good these days. Too many people are stuck thinking it's still like Windows ME/8(which were giant turds).

I resisted going to 11 for the first two years till they sorted out all the bugs but it's now pretty good... after you move the start bar back to the left hand side... stupid change.

Now I am fairly confident with doing the Win11 update. Thanks, Sherbrah.
