Are you upgrading to Windows 11?

It is!
I had it on my work PC for a year. It runs marginally slower than Win10, and the settings menu got worse. They didn't get rid of the control panel but hid old setting menus deeper in the new interface. Simple stuff requires more and more clicks, it is infuriating.
Only way I am using Win11 is I get it free with a new laptop.

Also, every system requires some time setting it up. Except maybe MacOS, because it won't let you change much more than your desktop wallpaper.
Why not just use the old control panel then? It's still there and works fine.

I wanna go back to windows 3.1 and dos with a 14.4k modem.
It would take approx. 105,000 of these to load Baldur's Gate 3 onto a rig today.....rofl

You'd need to take a week off work just for install!

So you say they added a bunch of unnecessary stuff that is not very useful and Win 11 is not shitty at the same time? Hmm...
Also, for example, power options in settings and control panel do not synchronise and which setting actually works was a coin toss on my work PC.
Seriously screw that shit. Settings should be in 1 place, not 2, with new one parroting the old and sometimes showing you WinXP menus in Win11. Some of them are not even adapted for high resolution screens!

I'd stil luse windows XP if I could, it's been all downhill from there
Win 7 was more stable and provided useful everyday features that didnt exist in XP.

They updated all the settings, centralised them (theoretically) made them easier to use. For people like me who don't personally like them, they give you the option to just do things the old way, that people are used to.

The only people I hear complaints from are those that don't know how to set it up properly. I didn't touch it for the first year, not looking to be a beta tester but these days? Pretty good.

For some purposes XP still is used...

For example if you don't need internet but have some stuff working with this, like diagnostic software for production manufactured when XP was actual, also even some CNC type stuff etc..because no one will stop use tools if they does work well....and they needs XP.
Ofc it might be emulated on modern computer, however if it is company, then all these software clauses are actual and sometimes you need to purchase new lic for some stuff...

Okey, you might ignore this, but if you don't have old hardware .... audit will see this cos bookkeeping/ accountancy records and will ask....A lot of questions in some cases.

Also if tailored stuff created for XP with optimization.

Plus sometimes old legacy stuff is still supported and better if you will have old version tools and compilators.
Easier to correct some peace in old job ....

Sometimes are some legacy dinosaurs and companies still are using...and to correct there something....
Ofc easier to tell wrote from scratch new, however if they doesn't want to pay for new program and insist to do support for old 🦕...

Dude, I work in IT since 2011. I assembled and maintained north of 15 PCs for myself, friends and family. I used Win, Linux and MacOS for both work and entertainment. Win11 sucks donkey balls.

The problem is not that I don't like the new settings. They have 2 sets of options that contradict eachother (and then you still need to use snap-ins and MMC for some stuff) and have 20 year old legacy stuff in their latest system. It is not good.
Is it better than it was on release? Yes, agreed, sure. But it didnt really fix the problems of Win10 and added some new ones.
I don't see a single advantage over Win10 and will not use Win11 until I need to, meaning something I need won't work on 10.

Gamer, so I've been on it for years.

Plenty of good, some improvements, but mainly, I want my Windows 10 start menu back. No, none of the Github projects are acceptable substitutes.

So, they updated the settings... but still gave the people the option to do things the old way if they wish... and you think that's a bad thing? If they didn't people would be whining that they hate the new way and just want to use the old way (I'd be one of them to be fair).

So, apart from lots of vague complaints, what specifically is wrong with it?

Also "you still need to use snap-ins and MMC for some stuff"

Such as?

Very few problems with it.
maintain the office computers too.
Seldom any problems.

That would be great if the settings could be done from both places and would synchronise. Unfortunately they don't.

To manage windows update properly, for example.
Windows update was constantly breaking my AMD video drivers trying to update them. I had to go to the snap ins and disable the service, because getting the "Update hardware drivers with windows update" or what's it's name flag off in options didn't work and it kept doing it.

Not as much, it's not Vista level shit. But IMO there's nothing really new or better with Win11 to be worth upgrading from Win10 and going through the hustle with settings.
If I were getting a new laptop with pre-installed 11, I would not uninstall it to go back to 10, it's not that much worse. My main complaint is that they didn't really make it better in any noticeable way except for pretty rounded window corners and the legacy problems keep piling up unsolved.

It's interesting, after the first couple of hours setting everything up the way I want it, both installs have been running perfectly... no crashes (except a quad gig card in my gaming PC, that I curse ten generations of the family of the creator of that piece of shit to lives of unending misery!!!) ...but aside that, both installs have been rock solid.

Been using since it came out. No issues.

I work for a CSP and the last of our customers are slowly being moved to win 11 now that 10 is getting near end of support. No major issues there either.

Dude, glad you have good experience with it. If it runs well for you, cool. There are a lot of variables there, and I am not talking you into downgrading or trying to spoil your fun🤣
My main argument against upgrading is why touch anything that works as you want it? It works the other way too, if you upgraded, it felt seamless and you like it, why not?
I will have to upgrade at some point when they add new features wirth upgrading for, or some new soft/hardware stops supporting Win10. As of yet, no reason for me.

Windows has sucked ever since they started trying to make it an OS for tablets.

I'm on a fucking PC, why would you gimp me with your stupid tablet interface?

Anywho, I don't recall when that started, maybe windows 8?

So I guess the last good OS was Windows 7.

Anyhoo, no, my PC it's on Windows 10 and can't be upgraded to 11, but it still does everything I need it to, so I'm just gonna roll with it until it doesn't.

You do not have to upgrade to 11 if you already have 10, you can decline the upgrade. If you are using your computer for work or do important things then you should upgrade since security updates will end shortly, if you are using the laptop as a beater, (watching youtube, email, gaming), you can leave 10 for many years to come. My local Pizza shop still has XP PRO :D, but its strictly for internal ue only (not connected to the internet)
