I think the idea could be really good in time but currently isn't quite there yet.

I think a lot of people want to pretend they are saving the world and ignore that, in a lot of places, they are charging their "electric" car on a natural gas or coal dominated grid.

Also the mining process is pretty damaging to the planet and I have my doubts as to whether we can even produce sufficient amount of the minerals to go completely electric, and wonder how much damage needs to be done to do so..

Overall it feels to me (currently) like rich people patting themselves on the back for outsourcing their pollution to somewhere else, ironically, probably somewhere poor people live.

Charging stations aren't prevalent enough for me to make the change yet.

I generate my own electricity and would love to own an EV, but they're still crazy expensive where I live.

Bingo.

If we truly wanted to prevent the Carbon whatever, then why aren't they putting the effort into the thing that has basically zero carbon emissions? Oh... maybe it isn't as easy to monetize and use for political leverage.

It isn't as easy to monetize nuclear power? What does that even mean? Who is this 'they' you speak of?

For it but obviously the infrastructure needs to be there for it to really work.

I drive a hybrid so mayhap next (or next, next) will be full-on.

Edit: By then I'll likely be "fully" retired so my trips driving will greatly lessen. Will see how the entertainment chasing dwindles or grows as well...

I don't have an opinion on the vehicles themselves either way. People should just buy whatever works for them. In the long run current ICE vehicles are going to be phased out if not for EVs then some other alternative.

I however greatly dislike current EV subsides as they tend to a regressive benefit and a corporate hand out, while being inefficient from a cost perspective in terms of tackling environmental issues.

Environmentally EVs are a far better way forward... sure there are challenges with battery tech, but those are all surmountable, and not nearly the level of negative impact fossil fuels have.

Ultimately the way to "clean energy" is through nuclear, and you can't run a gas car off of nuclear energy... but you can use it to charge your EV.

The mandates are a scam. They aren't better for the environment when you calculate out the entire carbon footprint from beginning to end. The manufactures destroy the environment manufacturing them and then present them as a clean air vehicle.

The mandates are simply to extract money from your pocket and place it in the hands of giant corporations.

I'm looking forward to seeing the next generation Porsche Cayman. If any manufacturer can make an electric that doesn't suck, it's them and this will be their second generation of electrics.

Relative to normal cars pro. But I'm generally against cars and highways in general. They are a big part of why our world sucks so much. We need to make everything walkable right now everythings an island.

I live rural and they don't fit my lifestyle at all.

Convert a truck to diesel electric and you'd have my business.

I’m neither for nor against them; I just don’t want to be told what to drive. The idea that they are better for the environment is idiotic; I just spent the last 6 weeks hauling coal to a power plant that burns 14000 tons of coal a day.

For one, if they stick to their current time line of EV adoption...... Then most of the power grids in the West aren't going to handle it without major up grades....
