Are UFC heavyweights just obese?

Most middle weights walk around as heavy weights.
The reason why so many heavy weights are fat is because the ones that have a low body fat percentage drop weight to fight in a lower weight class.
True... Francis and Gane are both making debuts as LHWs this year.

But I do get your point and agree with it in general.

I’m obese regardless of the metric. You can tell by looking with your own two eyes. Not bisping. He can see with his one eye. Not sure if he could see my obesity better with one or two eyes tho.

You're 1in taller than me, Roy. And some 25% fat more.
My pic is there too.

I'm 6 foot 33% bf. Working on it.

Your probably 5'10 lying to be 5'11.

How much do you weigh ? The lighter you are the easier it's to be lower bf.

So you just said you're 8% bf , 33 - 25.

I didn't eat processed sugar or added sugar in a week. Let's see if it continues.

I'll buy you a cheesburger pal.

;)

1. BMI is flawed.
2. Yes, most HWs are obese.

These things aren't mutually exclusive.

BMI isn't inherently flawed if used as a screening tool (which is what it is). The average person with a BMI of 28 is genuinely overweight and at high risk of xyz problems. It's a tool to say "hey, if your BMI is > x, research shows people in that category of BMI are y% more likely to develop hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes II, etc..." unfortunately physicians and the medical community in general uses it in a flawed manner (broad spectrum diagnostic tool) and confuse the general patient population.

In context to UFC HW's, many of them have a much higher percentage of body fat than is healthy, necessary or useful. If I recall correctly, the ceiling for men is around 20% and women around 30% while still maintaining adequate health.

Ive been going on diet lately and i was lookin at my BMI (body mass index). Im right at normal weight.

but according the calculator, basically every UFC HW is not just overweight, but OBESE.

Feel free to plug in yourself or ur fav fighter to see if they are fit or obese. I know guys cut weight so its harder to analyze the lighter weight classes, but most HWs dont cut weight at all.

brock lesnar at 6’3 265 is morbidly obese.
Those obese HW fighters would send your glass jaw into the nosebleeds.

Dan Henderson here is bordeline obese according to BMI calculations.

Though to be fair, Hendo cheats BMI by being built out of stoneware, or something.
Guy was just made of steel. Unreal how durable when lended on, and how dense when he landed it seemed despite really only being about 200 lbs tops.

Thanks, Roy. Mine with pickes, please.
About the height thing, I always made a point to say 5'11 and not 6. I hate this height bullshit.
Seriously, congrats on your effort. I'll have em burgers for you. You can have half my salad.

Edit: I'm always ~175, 10% bf, even tho I consume around 3.5kkcal/day. After last surgery probably over 13%, probably a bit lighter and softer... but it's a matter of weeks. I drink a lot, love cheese and carbs. And own a japanese restaurant. And am a sushiman. I eat well.

BMI is outdated trash that the government(s) refuse to replace for whatever reason
If you lift weights or have any amount of additional muscle mass besides that of the average person at your weight you're likely obese by bmi standards

You made a point to not be a liar ?

You know 178 cm is not 5 '11 ?

BMI is usually a good indicator whether you're a healthy weight or not however, It isn't always something that's always accurate. If it was, 250 LB Bodybuilders are considered Obese. they're technically Overweight yes but it isn't bad weight. BMI is more accurate for people who don't lift and are out of shape (Fat) but it's less accurate for people who are jacked and in good shape but are overweight. I hope I make sense.

bmi scale doesn't work for abnormally tall or jacked people

a lot of heavyweights are fat tho

on modern bmi charts they specifically state that if you're a bodybuilder/pro athlete, or if you're of Inuit or Polynesian descent that the BMI chart does not apply to you.
